If I'm not mistaken Scottish people don't consider themselves as Brits even though it's part of the UK. It's similar to how Okinawans don't consider themselves as Japanese even if it's part of Japan.

So nice to see you are both trying (and enjoying) some of the traditional and non-traditional foods there. We live in Western Australia so are used to seeing all those type of foods. Whenever we go to Oahu (going again end of August) and spend a couple of months there, I ALWAYS carry my Indian spices and cook several curry meals for our friends. Husband is Cajun so he loves my cooking.

So nice to see you enjoyed the new things you tried in the UK. I've heard of most of them and would try them, but sorry, the dishes that appealed to me most were the Indian food and pesto pasta, both originally non-English food (with spices!). And there's the fish and chips that looked delicious, but it's really not that special. I could have lightly breaded fried mahimahi and home fries anytime in Hawai'i. I guess I've never been a big red-meat eater and my Pacific Rim (Asian-Pacific Islands-U.S. West Coast) palate understands why my Japanese friends who lived in England were not happy with the food there, and why there are not many "British Cuisine" restaurants around the world, even run by famous chefs from the UK like Gordon Ramsay or Jamie Oliver. But mahalo for sharing the popular foods at the best-rated places with your honest opinions for the travelers and residents who want to enjoy British food!

While family from Hawaii, my mother was not. My father met her in college. We have had Steak and Kidney pie every Christmas day for 70 years in my family, with a sister doing the cooking. Works really well with pepper water.

omg omg how i miss london and especially british food ❤ lancashire sausages, colcannon, proper onion gravy, fantastic roasts & yorkshire pudding, pork pies, the list goes on and on lol! i see you're trying the more popular devonshire style of cream tea, with clotted cream on scone first. i am in the minority who prefer the cornish way (jam first, cream on top SO YUM). the next time you have bangers & mash i recommend a smattering of english or french mustard on the side (kinda like how they serve with tonkatsu). it really makes the dish pop. yay you did eventually have sticky toffee pudding - my most favourite british dessert. it actually should look more like the steak and kidney pudding (texture and moisture-wise) but happy you enjoyed 😊 omg edinburgh too?! hope you got to spend some time at princes st. garden and ofc the castle. marks & sparks i am so jelly!! ok can't wait for borough market vid next time ❤

In the US... folks order "Fish and Chips".... Period ! In the UK... folks order "Fish and Chips" and specify the variety of fish. We have English friends and they'll call the restaurant to ask "who's the cook ?" When informed which cook was on duty that evening, decided to skip it !!! The travel-bug bit me when I was an 18 year old GI in Germany. Back then we were allowed 20-days (4-weeks) leave per year. So... every 3-months I'd take a weeks leave touring Europe. The place to do my culinary research was at the post library. 😋😋

Popovers are the US equivalent to Yorkshire pudding. Same batter, basically, but just depends on the cooking vessel. Popovers also aren’t as popular in the US as they may have been decades ago (esp. 60s/70s). There’s also the Dutch baby, which is much bigger like a plate-sized pancake.

Great to see how much research you did unlike other first timers who don’t understand how things should be done. The one thing that was slightly wrong is that Jam Roly Poly should always be eaten with CUSTARD rather than ice cream ; custard is eaten with most British desserts, very popular , especially with Spotted Dick and apple crumble and apple pie ( which was invented over 500 years ago in the UK, not in the US) !!

We try to do as much research as we can and we always learn something new ☺️ it was definitely a welcomed difference 👌🏼 it seems a lot of the restaurants serve their traditional dishes in non traditional ways, but still glad we got to try it!

@@Myha.Cherie for me, I didn’t have that much India food at home, usually it’s the generic butter chicken for the American tongue. Dishoom’s Indian food tasted way different and better, so I think it’s authentic and taught me more about the spices used in India food. Enjoy Dishoom.

Must be an ever-ignorant American or Hawaiian commenting on British cuisine you've never tasted & don't know the history of. You guys grow up eating mushed-up baby foods laden with E- numbers, sugars, fats & salt.. You don't need to put a 'stick of butter' in everything..😂.. Don't even get me started on your portion sizes. Your dietary preferences are evidenced by your obesity/morbidity rates too.. Didn't Hawaiian Airlines recently win the LA Times award for the unhealthiest food..?..🤔.. Anyway, glad to know you won't be visiting our beautiful country or sampling any of our culinary delights any time soon..👍

@@AmandaFelixEatsWe keep our condiments on the table in almost every non-fast food establishment in the UK - the assumption being, that most adults would be mature enough to know exactly how heavily or lightly seasoned they enjoy their food. Also, you'll struggle to find 'fried bread' in many places these days (some greasy spoons will still sell it) because as a nation, our culinary tastes & knowledge have developed considerably over the past 70 years, when we ate what had to due to rationing, & rather than clinging- on for dear life to 'tradition ' for the sake of it, we realise that whilst it's delicious, it's not actually really that healthy. As a Brit, I'm definitely partial to the occasional full-English fry-up now & then, complete with fried-bread, just not every single day. Glad you enjoyed some of the foods we hold dear. Hope the weather held off for you too!
