Simple serial and its lack of device identification or any concept of a "data packet" is handy for hw debug but is a PITA for normal use. At my previous job I wrote many serial printer drivers and they go bonkers when talked with the wrong protocol. That is where USB is good, not simple or easy, but it does have a base protocol for device identification. As far as the "extras" go, I almost went there a few times while studying computer science! but eventually I learned to walk way so no computers where ever harmed! lol

You are a genius. I know the issue comes from GPS, but I don't know there is a registry key to disable auto detection of serial mouse. Thanks!
