This lecture is was created for use in Thermodynamics for Mechanical Engineers at the Rochester Institute of Technology.
In this lecture I go through an example for a Vapor Compression Heat Pump Cycle. VCHP cycles were introduced in Lecture 35 ( • L36 Intro to Vapor Com... ) and now we go through a text book style example. The difference between this example and one you’d see solved in the text book is that I fix the states graphically using a “p (pressure) - h (specific enthalpy)” diagram. We see that fixing states this way should give us the same answer as fixing the states by interpolating on a table, even though the “datum” or zero point for specific enthalpy is different on the chart than it is in the text book tables.
