2212 Black and Decker Workmate loose leg fix. B&D D clip replacement. Wobbly leg repair.

Workmates are a wonderful device but when the D clips are broken and the legs are loose, then they can be a pain. Replacement D clips are available and are simple to replace. On this one I had an added complication, but soon overcome with simple hand filing. So lets get that old workmate out of the basement and back into useful service!

Always the little, what I call "diversions", that come up and take you away from the focus on the car projects!! Sometimes it becomes a "negative" knowing how to do things. ;o( In the end, it usually pays off and is rewarding!! So, as long as you're able to do this stuff, enjoy it!!!

Good show on Marts Garage !!!......( Workmate Repair Div.) Executive Asst....Meggy. I pickup every Workmate I can find. Some just for parts. Very handy and takes up little room when not in use. I had no idea you can buy spare new parts......Mark

I have had mine for 25 years now. Family row over who got my grandfather's when he passed. We had given it to him in 1981! I clamp a piece of lumber in the jaw and screw a piece of plywood to the lumber and throw a tablecloth over it for a side table when we have company. A passive-aggressive way to bring tools into the house when they are really not needed.

Hi Mart, I did the same repair on an inherited workmate and found a little rub of wax on the new D clips made the operation smoother and may be extending the life of the new clips which I suspect were not B&Ds own

Yes this find doesn't look to have had a hard life; and stored somewhere in the dry. The early models also have the best quality and thickest plywood tops. As so often it's the plastic and rubber parts that age first. Rubber feet (also available) are not so critical in the garage; as long as you have one Workmate with a complete set, to save you damaging the polished floors and carpets in the house (to keep her indoors happy)!
