Just a short video showing the assembly steps of the American Morse Equipment KK1 Precision Morse Code key. Very well made, sturdy, and not terribly expensive. This model has been revised to the KK1B. There are many other keys and paddles that they offer for sale. Nice little key.

I assembled this key a few years ago, and I love it. It's worth mentioning that Doug stands behind his products 100%. Nice video as usual.

Got that key as well as the single lever paddle. Nice for the price. Did clean up the ends of the contact screws. I use a burnishing tool from time to time to clean the contact points.

Thanks for posting this video. I bought the KK1 kit and I thought it was of good value and fun to build as well. On the pivot pin I made the mistake of adding a tad of relative bearing grease so my code rate is now over 200 wpm, too bad I can only copy 5 wpm :)

Nice little build. I like the mixture of theory and ham radio you work into the videos... Sparking my interest in radio again! 73 KD5BXH

I like that key and so simple to make for anyone with a CNC mill/router. I must confess I blow at Morse Code and trying to learn/relearn it after 30 years (just renewed) would not be easy.

Hi I was thinking about the contact screw and the upper bar could be improved with some silver solder. The screw should have a nut or threading die installed before the silver solder. I think with care a small blob of silver solder could be done on the end of the screw then some careful filing to renew the threads on the screw. Maybe not, use your own judgement of your skills. THanks

does the plastic tip turn sideways sometimes, hence it is held in place with one screw?

+Lan Party Hosting that's the same question which immediately came to mind seeing this. I'm not familar with morse code or HAM, but it seems odd that only one screw is in place, assuming that there will be quite some vibration by operating the device. If I was the manufacturer I would have at least included a shake-proof washer, or go for a 2 screw design.

Good morning/afternoon. My name is Insp. Makumula from Botswana Police Service. Our Service intend to reintroduce training of Morse code receiving and sending to our Radio operators. This communication was once used and I am one of the officers who have done it in the late 1990s. We have since been charged with the responsibility to start the training and we are having a problem to find a company that can supply and install all the necessary equipment at Botswana Police College where the training will be taking place or conducted. The same company will possibly, IF found be awarded the tender to install the same equipments in all of our 78 or more police stations. Lastly we are looking for an institute we can be tested for Morse code receiving and sending and be accredited with the same college to be qualified instructors that can teach Morse code at our college. We are desperately waiting to here from you. Attachments area

The code generator uses a Small oscillator. The frequency is in audible range. Preferred frequency is 1k.

Only 64 US to Canada. Lets see at 1.41 to the US dollar that's .... about $90. Nice little keyer but I wouldn't pay more than $20 (ummm Cdn). LOL. Why are Morse keys soooo expensive? Basically a switch. Managed to pick up an old straight key for $10 though. Thinking back to my machine shop days in high school, it would have been more profitable to make a key than a hammer (or a pipe ;)

As custom machined keys go, this one is fairly inexpensive. But I see your point, keys are expensive momentary switches.
