Something about hills in the distance , absolutely beautiful. Very relaxing to see. A lovely apartment seemed so cosy. Nice to see the national trust signs so nicely preserved for all of us to enjoy, just like this video, thankyou Patrick a lovely watch.
Many thanks for the kind words Anna and for watching. May Hill was very much worth visiting to film this and the apartment was a great base for the week 👍
It was nice to see you back in the Forest of Dean, Patrick, after your period of illness, where are lot of us were concerned for you. The walk through the wooded Wysis Way seemed nice and quiet, albeit a little muddy, and you were rewarded with the most splendid May Hill. I can't recall a hill with a trig point, fronted with a cluster of trees, which is not very common. Those earthworks proved that it had been occupied a very long time ago. The Galloway cattle within the wood are lovely animals, and then there was the commemoration to the two Queens on that post, great. The views across the landscape you were rewarded with on the other side of the wood. This area is gorgeous, and you managed to stay in real good accommodation throughout the week, with even grand views from there. Many thanks Patrick, this is an excellent video.
Thanks for that Ffranc. That seemed a very long month whilst I was ill, but thankfully it passed in the end. The cluster of trees on May Hill is why it is so iconic as it can be seen for miles. This was a good walk and the weather wasn't too wet in the end really. The apartment for the week was great and made an ideal base whilst I was staying in the area. Thanks as always Ffranc for watching and commenting 👍
Great to have you back in the FOD. Based on your videos we made the life-changing move from Kent to Lydney nearly 2 years ago. We have had absolutely no regrets, in fact it's been even better than we could ever hoped for. Thank you for your videos showcasing the impossible beauty of the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley. Take care Patrick.
Hiya Patrick...Another great video to sit down on a sunday morning with a cup of coffee to start my day.....Ive been doing the all the walks around the manifold valley that you did .. Passed through it when i did the Limestone way but following your routes im seeing just how beautiful the valley is ...Thank you👍🏻😁👍🏻
There certainly are stunning views around that area Patrick especially up May Hill. I do love a good Trig. Was it a Trig that has been converted and has a list of things you can see, and distances, from that point? Nice stone one rather than the moulded ones. It does make a nice change, if it is a Trig, that is. You could relax in comfort there in your lodgings. I am amazed that living in Cheltenham for 14 years growing up that the School never took us to the Forest of Dean. Thanks for sharing Patrick and I hope you are having a great weekend.
May Hill certainly provided some brilliant views Chris. Not sure about the trig though. The apartment in Bream was great and made a nice base for the week I was staying in the Forest of Dean. It's funny how often you've spent years of your life somewhere, btu don't end up going to the obvious nearby places. It was like that for me when I lived in Bristol and visited the Cotswolds only a few times. Thanks for watching and commenting Chris, have a great weekend too 👍
Hi Patrick. I'm a tour guide for the forest of Dean and live between Newent and Ross. Glad that you are enjoying it here as there are so many sights and panoramas to take in.
Nice one Chris. I've known the Forest of Dean since I was a child, so it's been great travelling back to the area this year to make films of thse walks. All the best 👍
Hi Patrick, we are so enjoying the Forest of Dean its a place we have never been. the view.s are absolutely beautiful , and your apartment looks very nice.Thank you again, take care, regards Dave & Jean.
Morning Dave and Jean, I'm pleased you have been enjoying the Forest of Dean as it's always been my favourite place. It was a nice apartment and made a good base for the week I was staying there in May. Thanks for watching, all the best 👍
That apartment was wonderful. It must have been great to drawer the curtains back each morning and see those views. What a contrast in fauna since you were last there. It was green and lush. May Hill was nice and I love that tradition on the longest day. It was a lovely walk to watch albeit a bit on the squelchy side for you. Thanks Patrick for bringing us along. It's really appreciated 😊
It was a lovely base for the week. Certainly enjoyed waking up to those views every morning. I loved the walk up May Hill and despite the rain it didn't turn out too bad in the end. Thanks as always Kelly for your great comments and for watching 👍
Thanks, Patrick, May Hill looks delightful, considering it is below 1,000 feet, what stunning views of the great River Severn, those cows certainly looked contented.
It's a beautiful area Patrick - I pass by the area when I head for Gloucester and I always enjoy how thickly wooded and lush it is. As for May Hill I see it from here and have often wondered what it's like. Yes, you were seeing into Herefordshire and beyond. A good old walk and the apartment was top rate too. Good going. Have a great week ahead. Mark
Ah you'll know this area well Mark of course. I used to see May Hill too when I lived down south, but probably only ever walked up there twice before making this film in May this year. The apartment was a great base for the week and at a good cost as normally I would have gone for a B&B. Thanks for watching Mark, have a great week too 👍
@@solitaryrambler Well, I could know this area better Patrick and will do at some point. Great to see you having a good old time there and hey living in comfort. Nice affordable flat indeed. I will have good one. Peace.
ahh , so lovely to see you back in the Forest of Dean again. Have just returned from a visit there myself, seeing family. I stayed in Bream. Beautiful place.
Another amazing video, Patrick. They do make me homesick for Ross. When I was little, I was always told there were 100 trees on top of May Hill. Winifred Foley's book , A Child in the Forest was a lovely book. I have a signed copy of it, that was my mothers. Can't wait for the next video.
Thankyou Patrick for this, lovely walk and scenery 😊 that bench was in a perfect place to capture it too. Hope you enjoyed your few days away, nice little apartment you had with a nice view included! Thankyou again, have a great weekend ☀️
Thank you too Steph as always for watching and commenting. That apartment was great and made a good base for the week I was away filming these walks in May. Have a great weekend too 👍
Anothr lovely, relaxing walk. Thanks for sharing the view. I have visited some of Gloucestershire but this part is new to me.l have a copy of The Child of The Forest and have read other books by Wi ifred Foley. She really knew the area and its people.
A walk I know well being from Newent. Glad you had a good day, sorry we couldn't arrange better weather for you 😊 ps glad you pronounced Clifford's Mesne correctly!
Many thanks for your comments and for watching! The weather wasn't too bad in the end from what I recall. Good to know I got the pronunciation right! 👍😀
Hello Patrick , I grew up very close to May Hill I was born at Botloes Green 3 miles from Newent I went to Newent School , we were always told there were 99 trees at the top of May Hill 100 were planted but 1 died not sure how true that is . I was 40 yrs old before I ever walked to the top I will make my second trip in 8 years when I am 80 hahahaha . When you were in the area did you every go to Pauntley Church ? the Manor there was the birth place of Dick Whittington its about 4 miles from Newent worth a look sometime . Thank you Patrick lovely to see that walk .
Morning Shaun, nice to know this is in your neck of the woods. Hope you make that second trip to May Hill! 😁 I'm not familiar with the church you mention so I doubt if I will have gone there. Glad you enjoyed this. Thanks as always for your comments and for watching 👍
I know this walk well.My daughter Live’s 3miles away and her father in law has a house at May hill. Great walks and views. New year day and summer solstice are a magical walking time here.
Wow Patrick from top of Mayhill there very picturesque and you were in good company in them trees !! 🤣what a fantastic walk ! was that caravan your room for the night ?? ha all in all a very pleasant walk thanks Patrick .
Nice to see you out on a woodland walk and the weather looked warm for you in May. Not heard of Glasshouse or May Hill before but haven't really walked much in Forest of Dean. Pleasant delightful route. I know what you mean taking longer walking with filming too. Great apartment tour. Was it the recommended AirB&B ? Really liked those impressive guitar chords, particular those melodic synths part way.
Morning Shanita, thanks for watching. It was a pleasant woodland walk. There's not much at Glasshouse, but May Hill is iconic in that area due to the clump of trees, which can be seen for miles. I enjoyed staying in that apartment for the week. Found it on Booking.com, and it was a reasonable price as normally I would have gone for a B&B. Thanks for your kind words about the music, glad you enjoyed the guitar and the synths, which is the Dark Vox voice on my Yamaha keyboard. All the best 👍
