Our (Greek) league final matchdays were crazy as well, 3 matchdays from the end AEK was first favourite, Olympiakos second and Paok had few chances but they beat each derby AEK, Panathinaikos, Olympiakos in a row and beat their biggest city rivals Aris in the final matchday to win the league in Aris's homeground.
Lookman on that Europa League final was an absolute monster, he reminded me a lot of a prime Alexis Sánchez at Arsenal. He'll definitely be both one of the most sought transfers for big clubs next season, and a top African player to watch during the next WC '26 🇳🇬⚽️🔥 greetings from 🇨🇱
Intriguingly enough, the winners of this season's European club competitions might not be the favourites to win the entire thing at the end. The 3 Premier League sides (Manchester City in UCL, Liverpool in UEL, and Aston Villa in UECL) are a huge favourites (I even picked them to win their respective competitions after the quarterfinal draw). It's such mysterious why City, LFC, and Villa didn't win their European trophies at the end after getting knocked out by eventual winners of respective competitions, especially for LFC, whose Quadruple hopes were collapsed by April, while City also somehow lost to their noisy neighbors in the FA Cup Final after winning 4 Premier Leagues in a row. I don't think English clubs will dominate the Europe again for the next years. Pep Guardiola will most likely leave the club when the contract was expired the next season. The Premier League won't be the same best league again in Europe. Won't even be surprised to see at least Serie A clubs finally winning the Champions League (maybe Inter Milan), or might be the Bundesliga clubs winning the Champions League when the Final was played at home soil (Allianz Arena for the next year's UCL Final).
Thanks for the coverage all season 🫡👊🏿. My highlight for the season (outside the domestic league's) is Atalanta winning the UEL. Not an Atalanta fan of course but you know the football nerd in me was overjoyed for them as a football story coz they'd come close so many times.
The Greek superleague title was played between 3 clubs up to 3 turns before the end and the final champion was decided on the last matchday where it was still between 2 clubs.
Highlights : Levekusen and Grimaldo, Sporting and Gyokeres/Geny Catamo, Atalanta and Scamacca/Gasperini finally getting credit, PSG Vitinha, Manchester.Utd 19 losses all comps in a calendar season, Portugal Euro U-17s (Rodrigo Mora...remember the name, baller!) Lowlights : Klopp to Slot, Darwin Nunez & Andrew Robertson, PSG semi-final exit to Dortmund (would have been more interesting final), Goncalo Ramos/Manuel Ugarte at PSG, Portugal Euro 2024 Quarter-Final Exit!
First of all- imma steal your look, no joke. Second of all- Athletic Bilbao’s CDR win was top 3 moments of the season for me. They have enviable policy regarding local/basque players, they are one of only two clubs that voted against giving a Tebas wage increase over goal line technology, and I love Valverde for various reasons. On a side note, you should look into how other Basque/Nafarroa clubs like Real Sociedad and Osasuna perceive Athletic’s definition of and approach to canteranos. Thirdly- Yes Napoli had a horrible season. But then again, you said it yourself: Serie A has been the most competitive over the past 5 or so years. Fourthly: Aupa Mendilibar. Uno di noi. Fifthly: Real Madrid 6/10 is crazy. But going 32 years between the 6th and 7th is just as cray
