Our small town kids brought the house down at JTF Atlanta, the worlds largest celebration of youth musical theater.
Pittsboro Youth Theater's Elite Ensemble kids delivered an exceptional performance of "Peter Pan Jr." at the Junior Theater Festival in Atlanta, GA Friday, Jan. 13, 2023.
There was lots of laughter in the house during their performance. The crowd in the big convention center meeting room, which was nothing like we have in Pittsboro-much larger even than our Sweet Bee Theater, the 1 and only community theater in Chatham County-gave a long standing ovation and the judges were captured by the kids' performance.
Stellar recognition poured from the panel of professional theater Judges after their performance. Our kids, dressed to the nines in matching outfits, ended up winning "Outstanding Production" and went on to perform on the big Cobb Convention Center main stage-an honest-to-goodness-Broadway-quality stage-before an audience of nearly 7,000 at the closing ceremonies Sunday, Jan. 15, 2023.
Disney, Music Theater International executives and theater loving folks from around the world went home from this once-a-year event knowing Pittsboro, NC has great youth theater!

PYT's Elite Ensemble earned Outstanding Production along with only 6 other teams in a competition of more than 170 top musical theater casts representing 28 US states and 4 countries!
Tammy Matthews, Elite Ensemble Artistic Director, said, "All the executives loved the choreography in our presentation-it was amazing- I don't want any credit. I want to thank Josie Patterson for the great choreography, Scott Halford, Joanna Szeto and all the parents who worked so hard, but I give all credit in the world to our wonderful kids!"
JTF awarded Amari Bullett, Captain Hook, with a huge honor; their "Outstanding Performance by an Actor" trophy filled the back of the Bullett family van on the 6-hour drive home from Atlanta.
The fantastic Rue Schneider, Smee, and Kai Halford, Peter Pan, were named JTF "All Stars" for their performances.
