23 SLAM DUNK Characters Based On NBA Players

In some anime or manga sites scattered across the internet, many compare Slam Dunk characters with star players or even NBA legends. Some of these comparisons feel apt and close to the real thing. There is no official statement from Inoue about these comparisons, but given his love and knowledge of basketball, perhaps he looked to NBA figures to draw his characters.

I would say Ryota Miyagi is based off Isaiah Thomas. Sendoh is based off Magic Johnson. Maki is more of like Clyde Drexler/Tim Hardaway/Mitch Ritchmond Hanagata is more like James Worthy Iverson started in the NBA in 96. The series started in 93. Same goes with Minami. Bruce Bowen started in 97.

Magic was a point guard that had played center when needed. Maki did play center during the closing seconds of kainan shohoku game.

Maki is from kainan which is a team heavily based on lakers just by design and team dynamics. Maki is 6'1 and the best point guard in the kanagawa prefecture. PURELY a point guard. Sendoh is def not magic

@@bingchillingofficial3841Sendoh does have some magic influence , because of the whole "Giant point guard and unbelievable passes" thing , but yes , Maki is purely based on Magic since Kainan are basically the lakers
