Hi everyone, I had an opportunity to visit Mysore in Karnataka, India as a weekend getaway to escape the mundane lifestyle.
Mysuru is the second-most populous city in the southern Indian state of Karnataka. As the traditional seat of the Wadiyar dynasty, the city functioned as the capital of the Kingdom of Mysore for almost six centuries (1399 to 1947). Known for its heritage structures, palaces (such as the famous Mysore Palace), and its culture, Mysore has been called the "City of Palaces", the "Heritage City", and the "Cultural Capital of Karnataka".It is one of the cleanest cities in India according to the Swachh Survekshan.
Mysore is an anglicized form of Mahiṣūru which means "the abode of Mahiṣa". The common noun Mahiṣa, in Sanskrit, implies buffalo; in this context, however, Mahiṣa refers to Mahishasura, a mythical demon who could assume the form of either a human or a buffalo, and who, according to Hindu mythology, ruled the ancient parts of Mysore Kingdom, known in Sanskrit as Mahiṣaka. He was killed by the goddess Chamundeshwari, whose temple is atop the Chamundi Hills.
