Mark, it's September 5, 2015. Hope you're enjoying yourself RIGHT NOW at Burning man. I'm nearly 62 and boring, and my 56 year old husband who is also boring are thinking we want to participate in 2016. Especially after seeing this movie. Thank you.
10/2024......10 years later and it still holds up, I loved seeing "behind the scenes." The good old days, are just fine by me,....I prefer revisiting the past. You are an excellent tour guide. Bravo and thank you!
I made it this far. Please stay long enough to cover the Temple Burn. I started in 1998, before the Temples, and my last one was 2013, They were the most power experiences I had each year at Burning Man and miss not reliving it on video in 2014. Maybe next time.
As a photographer, I want to go so bad! No so much for photos, but just to experience this! Imagine if all the in world could be and act this way? Be pretty awesome.....Thanks for sharing this Mark!!
@@lecitronnoir679 If you chase the experience this, why mention that you're photographer anyway. And no. It would be a terrible thing for the world if people act this way. Read some books instead of looking through lenses.
chitwn hood Me too. Don't understand why those who hate bothered to watch this amazing video and comment. No one made you watch. I have heard from police who have worked Burning Man, that it is the most peaceful incident-free event they ever work. They actually look forward to it. And it's not just white people...anyone can go to Burning Man if your lucky enough to score one of the 70,000 tickets...blacks, Native Americans, Asians, and people from other countries come to decompress at Burning Man and experience a society based on gifting, kindness, and love. If you came here just to be negative and say hate filled things, you are probably the person who could benefit from going to Burning Man and take away the joy of the experience with you but sadly your closed mind will prevent this.
Hurry and go before millenials destroy the core values! I don't mean to sound like a grumpy old man but I'm being serious. Burning Man will be Coachella, or it will be GONE before long. Either way, the Man dies.
@@ArizonaHeat84 My first burn was 2006. It was just as awesome this year as it was back then. There's no way to turn a space like that into a Coachella. It's in the middle of nowhere in harsh conditions.
This is one of those videos were I just have my chin on the ground at least half the time. Looks like so much fun and it's so very well done. Don't know if I could've handled the "alien siege machine" on a thumbs worth of sid but the whole experience brought into my humble abode is so freaking appreciated. Unbelievable amount of effort put in and will be looking for 2015's event for sure Mark.
Successfully made it through this entire piece of glory. Craigslist is open, goggles are on, and the hunt continues..! Thank you for reminding me why this is so important. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Thanks man made it all the way through so here's my comment. Wonderful video, 2014 was my first burning man and it's great to see it again through your lens.
Watched the whole thing. I'm not sure that I even blinked. I'm too old for this kind of thing but attending vicariously through you, is more than adequate.
if only i had not stopped bike riding in 1989 I would be there now too with my friends and here I am, no bikie pals or bike, just roller skates. I may be 82 now but I'd still go if my husband would go too. This is so fantastic. Better every year...vivi wiitala
Thank you so much for producing this series. It is January 2021 and I am now living on a Burner owned event campground getting ready to open after 2 years of prep. This series is going to be vary inspiring in this adventure.
All these comments from people who obviously don't like sex, alcohol, drugs, music, art, people, America, nature, creativity, diversity, fire, giving, mountains, stars, sun rises, sunsets, camping & enjoying themselves..... I would pity their lives if I cared, thankfully that kind of person will not be there when I make it. Awesome video Mark and yes I watched to the end, it's just a shame I didn't have a pair of imaginary sunglasses when I went to imaginary BM 2017..... nice one fella!
Mark Day Made it to the end of the video :) Thank you for a wonderful view into the events last year. Some day I will make it to the Burn. My journey has not taken me there yet, but it will :) It will (:
+Mark Day I wonder if Elvis was a live today he probably would have liked this event here in the desert with all these people having fun. and imaginary alarm clock going off.
That is because Canadians are cold people like their climate! No wonder my Italian grandfather moved out of that country to permanently settle here in the USA
Thank you very much Mark! I have never been to Burning Man, although I've known about it since 1997. Your '24 hours' videos are truly enlightening to someone who hasn't experienced it. I hope to one day ring that entry bell myself :)
What happens if somebody falls off one of those art installations ? With they have to air lift them out of there if they were badly injured because I guess there's no hospitals nearby and Reno is the nearest place but that's quite far
Heubert Comberdale Agreed , yet it seems money would have no use without unity , last man on earth and all that. The truth is money just substitutes goods.
I made it to the end and you asked to leave you a post! Here it is!!! ;) Thanks for your videos over the years. See you on the Playa in just seven short months.
Wow. Where can I sign up? Where is this place? Arizona? After watching this video, I bet any money, no police were involved. This place looks like Mad Max vs America.
+Janet Craft Burning man sucks...Just a bunch of well off people, getting there to get high, and what's the point to make some nice sculptures and burning it all at the end?Don't get me wrong,i love booze, weed and other stuff, but "Burning man"'s for the hype only.Hi from France :)
+nicolas sosolic no that's not what burning man is all about..but ifthat's all you got out of it...then you weren't even trying> janet-if you want to go then GO - experience it for yourself - don't listen to this guy..
I am not sure i will ever be bestowed the true pleasure of being able to attend which hurts me greatly. Thank you so very much for filming your journey for those like myself, British or otherwise. Peace, love and best wishes.
Made it to the very end, and will watch again. Thank you so much for putting these "24 Hrs. @ BM' vids together Mark. I often rely on these vids to get me through the year in the default world until I return 'Home'. Would be so great to run into you on the Playa. Thank you!!!
marc aubin I am always humbled to hear that anyone comes back to these for that kind of experience. Thanks. It makes putting them together worthwhile. I (and several other people from the Alien Siege Machine's 'Iron Crew' ) am working on the Temple of Promise this year. Come say hi!
I was thinking about going this year. But I think 2017 will be a better year for me. I feel I need more time to prepare for it and see what it is all about.
Mark, just wanted to thank you for the wonderful and thorough video of Burning Man. I've been doing my research with a host of other videos to watch but yours by far has been the best. I will make it one day out to the playa, just gotta make it happen. Again, thanks! See you out there. John Nichols
Burning Man is perhaps the only place/time on earth where you get to be on a different planet with a bunch of like-minded souls... (souls being the operative word) But how long can the purity of the festival continue before the sponsors start sliding in?
Saw the live stream going on but came interested in your related video. Had no idea how long it would be but was entertained. Nice job capturing the people, art and experience. Might have to click into your other ones some day.
Leaving you a comment only since I made it far enough to see the text telling me to leave a comment. But seriously, thanks for all the hard work and effort putting this together. I hope I see you out on the playa and when I do I'll be sure to give you a big hug as thanks. Take care.
+andyg3 Word, They should hold one in the UK, Though the weather and the politicians would ban it, like they did with the acid house and free rave movement, maybe in Europe at least somewhere hot and dry. I guess there can only be one Burning man, and this is it. Id love to win the lotto so I could buy some massive huge American home on wheels, and explore the scene all around the country. Going to underground psychedelic house/techno raves before ending up at burning man, or starting at Burning man, get contacts there, then travel until my visa was due to run out, before going back home to Blighty ... Be nice haha..
Matt Male Really? I'm from Wales, Ive never heard of that though. Used to party at some good free all nighters back in the day, in Wales etc.. Been out of the rave scene for years, apart from a few top nights at the Vaults, etc Cardiff. Nice one mate, will have to check that out Trouble is, ill health as made a big impact on things, damn arthritis etc, But Some good Mandy and the pain goes away for a few hours. Anyway Got my taxi due now, for dentist..Argh! Cheers for the heads up man.. : )
Most burn videos have little resemblance to what I experienced there... but you, sir, transported me back. I remember tens of thousands of people with something in life they're passionate about (music, singing, poetry, theater, sculpture, art, fitness, acrobatics, circus, etc.), and they're sharing it on the Playa and encouraging each other to participate. I love performing (aerial circus) at burner events, they're the warmest and most appreciative crowd anywhere.
+Angie Montreal it is art art is everything and nothing, everyone sees art in different things , that’s the great thing about art, it has no boundaries nor limits
I can understand all the hate, 90% of those people aren't very sane and it shows, but why the fuck not? If you ignore all the junkies who go there only to get wasted and gift AIDS to a few strangers....and hookers who go there to make money....the rest are people with nice imagination and ingenuity. I mean look at all this, it almost looks like a post-apocalyptic movie set. It's like a playground for adults. Politically incorrect, somewhat spiritual but not in the sense of "oh holy jesus we worship you"....but more "pagan". It kinda gives you the feeling of being a celebration of an ancient deity of Joyfulness and fun.
Mark, I watched your video all the way through. It was one of the better ones. I know that 2016 is wrapped up (all that is left is the clean up) I still enjoy watching past burning man videos. My husband and I will make it there soon!. Thanks!
We live in the age of corporatism. Burning man attracts large groups of people into a single place. Lots of opportunity to make profit. (Not that I see anything wrong with it, per se)
First of all the guy with the camera is a cool guy. So, I have wanted to go to this many times. I am a grad student in the midwest and I used to do everything from private parties and camping at full week raves. This was back in the mid 2000's at the time. I am now a teacher and still desire the lifestyle of these events. However I always noticed one thing at festies and events like this. The people here generally would be considered pleasant but I have seen so many Fake ass people at these events. One year I went to a 3 day outdoor rave and me and friends etc. were all loving the event and having a great time and I ended up having an OD. I took great LSD and I tried some special K but someone sold me some coke and it caused my heart to almost beat out of my chest till It stopped completely. I was begging for help and NO ONE GAVE A SHIT and that is what really turned me away from these events. The people seemed so friendly when everything was cool, but as soon as I began to literally die those who were so nice and peaceful took on a spirit of anti-altruism and self serving attitudes. When I came to in a hospital only 2 people out of about 40 of my friends gave a shit to even see me. From that moment on I turned from this life. I went to Australia for college and met some of the most awesome people ever and they were generally concerned with my well being and there was a definite spirit of mutual reciprocity in their hearts. I only smoke weed now and have not seen the tracers of my past for over a decade but I miss it still to this day. My question in all of this is.......Are people at Burning Man generally kind and concerned with one another or is it just another self serving drug fueled rave. I am looking for an overall uplifting spiritual experience in whatever that may entail but I do not want to relive the horrors of the past. My life began as a bastard child that went to 90's goth followed by Hippie and Raver followed by the drunk years of my 20's coupled with college here and abroad, followed by grad school, family etc. of the present day. Can this festival change people or leave a bad taste in the mouth of a first time attendee with bad experiences? I am a nice person with no inhibitions and I have pretty much seen everything life has to offer. What can this place teach me? Positive answers only please. I am desiring to know.
There is not one kind of person at Burning Man. Many thousands there are indeed kind and warm-hearted, and the nature of the event itself has the effect of inspiring these qualities in the vast majority of attendees. That being said, there are also thousands of folks who go there mostly for the debauchery. I went a few years ago with a group of wonderful people, most of whom I already knew and trusted, and I would recommend you do the same, if possible.
It is my belief drugs generally take more than they give. quality peace of mind takes effort, not consuming mind altering substances. Thanks for your story, gives insight to some of the reality of "partying" & what can happen when things go wrong
I want to create a band of ruthless marauders and in our tricked out cars raid Burning Man of their provisions. Maybe take a few people as slaves. The male slave will be forced to fight to the death in our dome for our own amusement and the women will be our precious breeders.
Incredible I made it! I saw the whole video... :) I am dying to visit and meet you... It's such a long trip for me coming from Greece. One day I definitely will! with my family xxx love from Greece xx
Thank you Mark for making this video. I feel you really captured its spirit. I am now super excited to come in 2016 and join the community on the playa.
I want to say "I made it to the end" but that sounds to me like I was forced to sit here till it was over, I watched the whole thing and hope I will meet you out at burning man one year, I've not been there yet but will soon. Thanks for making these videos.
David F look at all the stupid fucking people walking around...Tattoos rings in their nose eyes and everywhere....Just a huge sesspool of garbage....Ohhh look at us we are a bunch of hippie trendy new generation cockheads who reject norms.....What a bunch of losers on drugs....You are soo judged.
Thank you Mark, I have seen other BM videos by you and Have loved them. I can tel you have a good heart. I have not attended since 2006 and 2007, but I still feel how it has changed my life ! Love Unbound.
I've literally watched almost all of your Burning Man videos start to finish - they are absolutely brilliant. I could watch the "why the nose" video over and over for the music alone. So incredibly excited to experience my first burn this year - see ya on the playa!
Before watching this, I've have heard very vaguely of this, didn't think much about it. I'm a huge fan of music festivals, so I thought this was another one but on the desert. Thank you for making and sharing this! I have added one more life goal to my list. Great video btw.
Nice one Mark for the virtual ride to BM!! Had to watch to the end!... Would have liked to have seen more about the actual living accommodation there though?!... Peace out!
paulsmith2323 You win an imaginary 60 minute video about the inside of my tent! (which was, as ever, a mess.....). I had a slightly broken shade thingy over mine, but to be honest don't go in for the more elaborate accommodations.
Nosmo King Cheers for surviving it! You win a set of imaginary sunflower arrangements as a member of the exclusive "made it to the end club" Hopefully see you on the playa....
Hi mark. Vid said to leave you a comment. Thanks for the great video. It's amazing what a consistent energy/ presence the festival has regardless of the videographer. Really deep situatonal/ visual poetry.
i watched until the end! you did an amazing job capturing the journey on the playa! it was fun cause i wasn't able to make it last year and i felt like i was there watching your video 😊 hope i see you in 2015 so i can give you a hug for pumping me up for my next burn!!!
Made it to the end! Thoroughly over the moon that you're Scottish too! Got my ticket yesterday and I'm breaking my Burner virginity this year. So excited and your video just added to that! Maybe see you there! x
You win a commemorative, imaginary, made-it-to-the-end Scottish tea-towel set, with imaginary shortbread on the side. See you on the playa (now go watch the 2013 edition......)
I have been producing dance music that flows through my mind for the past 10 years. I have been struggling on finding a place to call home to my abstract art. Thank you for showing me a glimpse into the world that I want to be in. So free so open. So much energy. I do wish to share vibes with others at burning man soon, through my music.
perfect capture of the year Mark. Makes me wish i never slept a wink. watched all the way to the end. showing all my friends on the fence this year. see you at home
+Erik Brandt Cheers. I certainly slept, for example, I slept through the Embrace burn.... I'm about 2 weeks away from finishing my 2015 video, which is even longer.... keep an eye out for that.....
Watched the whole damn thing, and now off to bed because it is already 2am here :D Was an awesome video. Planning my first trip to the playa for 2016 with some friends. Can't wait! :)
Thank you so much for this! I am watching of your burning man "films" now and I am enjoying them so much!! This year it was unfortunately impossible for me to go because I live in the Netherlands so it is very expensive, but I am planning on going sometime in the future, hopefully next year. Thanks again these are so wonderful!
Amazing video Mark! That might be the longest video I've watched on RU-vid but it was very thorough. Thanks for making it! Hope to see you there in 2017.
wow! thanks for taking the time to make your videos. I thought I might want to go now i KNOW I do! hope to meet you soon! and this one time at burning man..LOL
Thanks for the video. I watched till the end as well and so did my wife. She was on the fence about going to Burning Man and after watching your video, she is all in.
Made it all the way through, traffic jam and all. You sir have been an inspiration, I've been watching your channel for years, vicariously living through your capture of some amazing moments at an event that I hope to one day take part in. One of these days I'll have the money, knowledge, and courage to take part. Until that day, thank you again for sharing such an awesome experience! :)
