I'm from Biloxi. Pronounced Biluxi. The water is always brown and mostly still due to barrier islands keeping the water from flowing back and forth. If you go on the other side of ship island it's pretty and blue. Great video. So many other cool places you could have gone. Next time!
As a resident of Biloxi for my entire life (15 years) I would like to say Thank You! Very rarely do we see people on the internet sharing Biloxi to the world. And a little tip for the next time you are in Biloxi, do a little research behind the names of the islands, the gulf coast, and the seafood industry. There is a Maritime museum on the tip of the Biloxi Peninsula, as we like to call it, The Point. This museum shows the history of the city of Biloxi and the surrounding areas. The life of Biloxi is a beautiful life, but it is not for all! I hope you enjoyed your stay, come back and enjoy the other wonderful accommodations of Biloxi. Thank You!
I’m so happy the Mississippi Coast is thriving again. Hurricane Katrina really did them in. It’s taken a long time, but I see it with my own eyes that it’s booming and I love it!
Biloxi/Ocean Springs/Gulfport area is a total hidden gem. We went to visit our son at Kessler last weekend and fell in love with the area. We ate great food also at Shaggy’s twice and Jacked up coffee was so good we bought coffee to take home. It was the first time for me trying coffee and chicory together.
If you're in Biloxi for a weekend, you have to take the ferry to Ship Island. It's about an hour boat ride and dolphins often join alongside.. The water is a lot nicer and similar to Alabama coast. There's a really well naturally preserved fort on the island called Fort Massachusetts, it was a garrison during the Civil War and built before it. For those that have wanderlust and access to a private boat you can explore Horn and Petit Bois islands where the water is pretty clear. Nice sand, bluffs, salt marshes. Just a beautiful natural area. It's part of Gulf Islands National Seashore.
Glad to know yall had fun. Next time, plan a week stay. Visit more places...find out where the locals go to eat. Check out the artsy town of Ocean Springs (right next door to Biloxi). Thanks for showcasing the Gulf Coast in such a loving light.
glad to see a post about Biloxi, Ms. This was my first duty station ( keesler afb) fot almost 5 years so it became my home and every chance i get i go visit cos of some amazing friendly people and yeah, i was here when Hurricane Katrina hit... keep posting fun stuff ^_^
Glad to see y'all made it down here and really enjoyed yourselves👍❤️😁 !!! The reason why the water on the beach is so brown is because of the barrier islands we have here. The water is blues out past the islands. The mud and silt in-between the beach and the islands is the reason we have such rich seafood habitat. The water is actually brackish all the way out to the islands before it can be truly considered a marine environment. Y'all come back anytime and enjoy our hospitality now ya here😁
Biloxi is my favorite vacation! Go get bahn mi from Ms. Le at Le Bakery! If you get there at opening, 8am, you can snag the ham and cheese croissants!! So good, and we always pick up turnovers and bahn mi sandwiches for later in the day. Fayards convenience store has an awesome pressed shrimp po boy at a great price. While I LOVE Rouse’s grocery for their wide variety of products, buy your shrimp straight off of the boats on the docks behind the Hard Rock and save your dollars. Also go to the Fillin’ Station in downtown Biloxi! The crawfish nachos and pepper piroux sandwich are amazing!! Low table limits at Treasure Bay later at night if you want to try your luck, and the Blu bar there has happy hour with half price drinks every night with a players card.
My son and hi wife lived in Gulfport/ Biloxi (Biluxi) for a couple of years. Yeah, you can't swim in that murky water. You have to get on over to Alabama and Florida for getting in the water. But, oh my, the food!!!!! And you can do a day trip to New Orleans anytime you want!!!!! Awsome!!! Hope ya'll had a great time.!!!
My favorite part of the Beau is the Atrium. I always make sure to go during the Christmas season because they blow it out of the park with the trees and decorations. Where you entered the atrium looking up, There is a full size sleigh with reindeer. They really made it magical the Christmas before COVID hit. They had Choirs singing beautiful music. They really made that a special Christmas. Hard Rock is meh....it's ok. Y'all come back now ya hear?!!
The next time you go through the MS coast you absolutely must stop and eat at Murky Waters BBQ in Gulfport. It's truly some of the best you'll ever have.
Glad to see you guys made it to Biloxi - we grew up in the area. The water is NEVER blue, so if you've seen photos of blue water they have been photoshopped lol. I don't think there has ever been a sharkbite though, and I've gone my whole life without getting stung by a stingray. Here's some options for next time: the Filling Station is a much more "locals" spot; Shaggy's is kind of the touristy spot (although Reef next door is good too). Wherever you go, you have to try a shrimp poboy - it's a stable of south Mississippi and one of the foods we miss the most. Definitely take the ferry to Ship Island if it's sunny. If you can find some kayaks, you can kayak to Deer Island - a barrier island that is very very close to shore. No one is ever on the island which makes it pretty unique to explore. Ocean Springs is a cool little town as well with a nice downtown area. Fishing trips to the rigs are always fun, but fishing close to shore is fun too. I'm sure there's more, but that's all I can think of lol
Oooooo, that water is never blue. We don’t swim bc it looks gross 😂😂😂 There are some fun places to go along the coast, but you only swim if you go out to like ship island! That is where you can find some pretty water. Glad you guys enjoyed your visit!
I’m a Mississippi resident, the only time we go to the beach is to fish. The water is nasty for reasons others have pointed out. If you out into the Gulf you’ll have to wade out far because it’s a gradual drop off in depth, which does increase your odds of getting on a stingray. But there are some amazing places to eat. You should try Taranto’s on the North side of I-10 next time. It’s more of a great place for mostly locals to eat because it’s off the beaten path but they have a very loyal customer base.
First off, welcome to my home! Pronounced buh lux cee . No one local swims in the water here, because the water is dirty and uneventful and boring lol . The barrier islands keep the dirty sound water from getting fresh water in. Iv lived here since I was 7 . My parents moved us here 2 months before hurricane Katrina destroyed our community. Since then, we have come back very strong . We have lots of great food venues and small shops to discover. Hope you had fun and come back
I was born and raised Biloxi! Still here! There are some back roads spots I’d love for you to visit! Glad you enjoyed it! If you want an experience that doesn’t smack you in the face with smoke! Try The Palace Casino Resort!
I rebuilt that Cajon rv park main pylon sign. It was damaged from hurricane Katrina. Cool video and it was neat seeing my work on your video. By the way your saying biloxi correctly lol. I hope y'all had fun hanging down south in my home town.
I worked on a shrimp boat for 5 days 6 nights last summer. Hard work. We fished right off the Biloxi coast on Louisiana waters! Crazy to think that Louisiana water is directly south of Biloxi! The story behind hour it was divided is interesting! They through a barrel in the Mississippi and said on the east side it's Mississippi and west side is Louisiana. Problem is, they didn't account for what's way the correct was pushing. So Louisiana got most of the water on the west Mississippi coast.
My family and I literally returned from a 4 night stay at Cajun RV Park. We absolutely loved it and all of the food around the area. Shaggy's & The Reef had the best food of anywhere we went.
Creole Gulf Shrimp is one of the best, but why not try Crawfish boils? Now those you need to experience. You were there at the right time. I love your videos, I'm excited to where you are going next! Stay Safe!
Yup they should of stopped by the welcome center and did the lighthouse tour. I actually like half shell oyster house better than shaggys. What I really miss is the sliver screen. No other movie theater served beer. You could just move the tables and chairs.
Lived in southeastern Mississippi my whole life! Spent just as much time in the gulf and out at the barrier islands. Sometimes I wonder about the intellectual inclination of my south MS neighbors that border the Gulf....the water isn't nasty. Its briney and brown because of those wonderful barrier islands! Unless there's a red tide, its just fine! Couple of tidbits about avoiding saltwater pests....choppy water contains few to no jellies and other water-life. In the event waters are calm, dragging your feet as you wade through the water cues the stingers to swim. Now the horseshoe crabs are a different story! Those you just gotta lookout for! Next time your visiting either the LA or MS Gulf Coast do yourself a favor and definitely charter to the rigs! Saltwater fishing IS THE BEST! 2nd place, hands down, is gigging for flounder under a full moon!
When y’all find the small towns do a quick search on where the locals go and history on the town. Shaggy’s is great but they have 3 locations in MS all on the same road and 1 in Florida. You should have found a hometown seafood place! Also, the Beau Rivage is the sister casino to the Bellagio in Vegas…that’s the Vegas vibe. If you come back this way, definitely find the local spots. It will be well worth it!
LOL I saw the Vegas sign as was like ohhh Awesome they are here in my city! Whomp whomp whomp to me lol Love the videos guys! Cheers from the real Sin City! 😉 🎲 🎰
you get a LIKE for visiting Jacked Up Coffee! Dixie has built something super special so glad you made that your coffee stop. Our water is kinda nasty natural brown bc of the barrier islands keeping circulation inside the Sound.. us folks that wade fish it call it Sound Soup.
that’s what I could compare those 2 cities in MS. Gulfport/Biloxi is like vegas and downtown, actually Biloxi is Vegas itself, Gulfport is the state line. Tunica is more like Reno.
Nice video. It looks like a mixture of love/hate comments on the area. I was born and raised on the coast (as in MS Gulf Coast - 26 miles of beach across the the state). Fun fact the barrier islands, which yes are part of the reason for the not so blue water, offer some protection from hurricanes (well unless it's a Katrina 😔). It took me having to move away not to return for 7 years for me to really appreciate the beach. Lot of culture, fun activities and awesome food here. Shaggys is okay but IMO there are better restaurants. Good food almost anywhere. Come back soon!
Next time your in area go a little west to Gulfport, Ms. Eat at Tony's brick oven pizzeria. That's one of the biggest hidden gems down there. Real brick oven pizza old school style
I love that feeling of heading to a new place too. Beware, it’s quite addicting 😉kinda like coffee. Love Royal Reds! We bought as much as we could fit in our RV freezer down on the gulf coast. As always, masterfully crafted video!!☝️
So it looks like you guys are passing on Jazzfest. You were so close. Perfect weather this weekend and no place for better food. Crawfish Monica, Cochon de Lait poboy just to name a couple. We’ll be thinking about you when we’re jamming to the Who on Saturday. “Don’t get fooled again”
We thought about it but decided to skip it this year. Hopefully either next year or year after we can make it there! Hope you had an awesome time! Gotta love The Who!
Hi, 1) There is a Buc-ee's in AL. I-10 ex: 49 I believe if interested. 2) Once you guys cross the Fl. state line I-10 Ex: 5 Nine mile Rd. There is a Place that make little cheezecakes called Szotski's 2600 W. Nine mile rd. A real small bus. pk., Across the street is a small church you may be able to park at. If you happen to have a sweet tooth at that time. 3) Pensacola beach on a clear day is BEATIFUL clear water you can see the small fish swimming at you feet. Sugar sand--white. I can't count any higher than 3, so that is all the info. I got. Great video's. Enjoy the journey.
Love your videos. Y'all are so much fun. By the way, have you ever been to Port A (Port Aransas), Texas? I can see you having fun there. Keep on keepin' on!✌️
I live in Mobile and spend a lot of weekends in Biloxi haha. Always stay at the Hard Rock and just left there Sunday morning. Craps is my game. Too bad y'all couldn't throw the dice for me haha. But, there are actual strategies in games you can do to hedge your bets haha. Let me know if you want some examples. Not sure if you stopped in Mobile but you should.....it's the home of Mardi Gras. It originated here....not New Orleans. Also, Mobile gets the most rainfall in the country....surprising fact. A lot to do here too.
We stayed in the hotel in the background above the waffle house this last weekend in the top left at the S in south Beach in this video. We ate at that waffle house twice and funny enough we also travel for work in a camper. This video was so fun to watch for us! We'll be watching more of your videos to see how many of the same places we visited
Great question, they’re totally different! When it comes to garlic shrimp I’d give it to Giovanni’s but if you want a variety of high quality options then I’d go with Shaggys! Cheers!
I was drawn in by the Biloxi Houston theme. I've lived only in both cities. But this vlog really isn't about the cities and what they have to offer but more about you guys, which is fine. I'd rather log in to see why I should visit the city rather than see what you guys are up to today. More city, less couple. No hard feelings
No worries Jaime, that’s just how we do things. Sometimes it’s more about the place (when we have more time typically), other times it’s more about us in a place. Cheers, thanks for sharing!
Biloxi is pronounced 'Billuck-see' not 'Bi-LOX-EE' as you hear many people not from here say. Yeah the water is always murkey. It can be beautiful and blue at sunset (due to the reflection of the sky from the water but not the water itself). On the flipside, it's probably the most accessible and quiet sand beach in the world. You guys went to two of probably the worst casinos to go to on the coast btw :P Always go to personally owned casinos, not the chains. Not only do we have a good handfull that do not allow smoking anymore, the chain casinos make money off people by name recognition (MGM Beau Rivage, Hard Rock, Golden Nugget-which golden nugget isnt terrible). VS the personally owned (Silver Slipper, Palace Casino, Island View, The Scarlet Pearl) will loosen their slots. Regardless im so happy that you guys had a great time at our humble little secret spot and hope you guys come back! Ask some locals on here, they will tell you where the REAL seafood is :P
In Biloxi that is Gulf Of Mexico. That shrimp you were eating came from those waters. You should of went to visitors center in Biloxi as it's free. As for coffee the shop you passed inside the Beau Rivage you should of had coffee there. As for Shaggys it's ok But I like the half shell oyster house better. You should of went to Big play as it's cool arcade with all kinds of everything. You really missed out and should of Visited Ocean Springs. Next time you guys are in Biloxi DM me and I will take you everywhere you should go and eat and visit. You really need to visit again and see our Aquarium In Gulfport.
I live in Biloxi and am from here most people don't swim in the water because it's not the cleanest and certain parts of the year are more susceptible to flesh eating bacteria But overall I think this is a great place
