You guys make a great team. Between Jesse’s personality and Will’s spot-on camera work and editing, you guys are very entertaining. Keep the videos coming 👍 - Love from LA!
Actually Jesse pronounced Poutine the right way the first time. The second time it sounded like he was saying putain, which is a swear word in French 😂😂😂
As a ex Cambridge boy that brought back some good memories. That Taps restaurant on Green street use to be a Kebab shop back in the late 80’s, many late night kebabs after a alcohol fuelled Saturday night and hard week of lectures 🤦🏼♂️🍺🥂🍾
You visited some great foodie spots! Someone was having you on saying poutine is pronounced "putaine" (very naughty) :) It's "poo-TEEN" or in the Québec French accent... "poo-TSIN". Poutine isn't French but rather French Canadian (from Québec). You had a delicious poutine from Bread & Meat but it's an adaptation of the real thing as it's missing the squeaky cheese curds. Canadian from Québec here btw - hi!
Yes! I thought the same :) There's nothing quite like pastéis de nata. Those are from Adilia's Norfolk Street Bakery in Cambridge, a supplier to Espresso Library. Those Portuguese custard tarts are legendary!
Hey Jesse & James Great to see you guys coming back strong as restrictions in UK are eased. Loved *Bread & Meat* & *Mercado* Cannot wait till the day I can travel across the pond to try their delicious cuisine. Honestly never even thought of Cambridge having a gastro-scene. Good on you 2 lads to put Cambridge on the map! 13:30 to 13:42 ~This is why I love your channel ! In 12 seconds…mate you captured the essence that is ***TOP JAW***
Nice one guys, but please spend some time to understand what you eat! Putine is Canadian, at the beginning you have the Amazing Portuguese pastel de nata, it's not a "tart". Then it's Italian pronounced porketta, and should have deserved a lot of attention...
Shout out to James Thorne! He used to supply The Deli (in Shelford South Cambs) where I used to work as well as Mercato. You hit most of the best spots in Cambs - make it to the Deli next time though.
Loved the video, great vibes, as always. It's actually a "flammekueche" (pronounce flam- kuuu-shh not flamboosh) style pizza or "tarte flambée" (= blazed tart in French). Sorry, I couldn't stay silent, I'm from Alsace where it originated. ;)
Not sure about the poutine 2nd proununciation as in french it's a very bad word. Jesse got it right the first time ! Another gem as usual, can't wait to travel again and eat everything you show !!
Great video. I live not too far from Cambridge so eat out there regularly. Pleased to say I have been to most of the places featured. Jack's Gelato has opened a second site in All Saint's Passage which appears to be a lot quieter and they often do slightly different flavours to the original location (which can be a good or bad thing depending on what you fancy). You can do Peterborough next :)
There is something about the lads re-connecting with their old stomping grounds (Cotswold episode foe Will) that adds a special element. Fin Boys with their trout ceviche, Bread &Meat with the meat topped Poutine, were highlights for me. 😋
Poutine is pronounced poh tin (similar to the Russian president). It’s a French Canadian dish from the province of Quebec. Best ti have one after the bar or at a sports games like hockey to soak up all the beer. Rough translation is “it’s a mess”
Say no to avocados! I quote the man Jeremy Clarkson himself... it does the same amount of damage for the planet, the same way driving a volkswagon polo for a year...
I’ve had this video saved for months, I’ve finally just booked Fin boys and mercado central for lunch then dinner. I’ll have a bite at meat and bread beforehand (can’t book that), and Jacks Gelato between lunch and dinner. Outrageously excited
@@topjaw I watch your videos all the time and this is the first time I’ve followed your guide. The food was genuinely incredible, we tried most of what you went through, including the tomahawk, but we just couldn’t bring ourselves to stand in the monster gelato queue like peasants! Highlight of the day had to be the sourdough with black butter and anchovies at Fin Boys, and the brisket poutine. There were 5 of us on the day out and all of them were raving about MY choices for places to eat… 😇 I’ll be picking another of your vids for the next day of eating, thanks for your top work.
Jesse, my wife and I love you. We came to Cambridge only because of your video. I frickin love it here! Had a pint at the Anchor, because Pink Floyd met here. So many thanks for introducing us to your home for. BTW. We tried to get into the Mercado, but sold out!
Just want to reach through the screen and grab that food away from you. Will makes it look so awesome and then those noises Jesse makes when he takes a bite - it's almost to much to withstand. And nothing in my cupboard but stale PopTarts!
Nice! I love your editing style, we just dropped a new Vid for North Georgia and Kayaking if your ever around Atlanta hit us up! We don’t have the bikes but we have the electric scooters around here, lol. Followed!
LOVE this. Cambridge was a culinary wasteland when I first lived here 2003-2007. Tbh, when we moved back here two years ago I had hoped the restaurant scene would have improved more than it has… but it was great to get some new tips in this video, will check our Fin boys. Also recommend: Restaurant 22 - out of this world in every way Steak and Honour - especially their plant burger Bould Brothers Coffee Hill Street Chocolate That’s probably it. There really should be more! Come on Cambridge! People have the cash to splash here, we need some proper chefs, we’re a captive audience!
How do you manage to stay healthy, considering you seem to eat a lot..and constantly...lol..This is a food show I really enjoy..😊 Greetings from New Zealand...😃
Jesse come on man ! Poutine is not French but French CANADIAN ! And yeah, makes sense that it’s British influenced as New France ( Quebec ) was conquered by the English in 1760 😉 Now you have to come to Montreal for an episode, no choice ! 😜
I grew up in Cambridge too. Loving this lads. I bought a very nice Rossin Matrix from Howes Cycles in 1990. Will seek out a load of these eateries when I next back. Assuming you asked about the Devonshire glug jug? Cheers
guys - love your vids and all things food. I especially liked the message from Jesse regarding celebrating all things food and all those that work in hospitality. I was curious to know when you're doing old market/historic towns in Shropshire, such as Shrewsbury; IronBridge (heart of Industrial Revolution) and Bridgnorth ? Towns similar to Oxfordshire / Cotswolds. IF you do end up in Shropshire, be sure to connect with Shropshire Lad, also on RU-vid based in Shropshire and does great food. Keep up the great work.
I’m glad Jacks made it onto the list. It’s the best thing to happen to Cambridge in my 31 years 😂 Next time you have to visit Steak & Honour and have the Ella burger
@13:10 "Love you long time" has racist connotations that associates Asian women with illicit sex trade and reduces them to sexual objects. Best avoided. You can hear it in the film "Full Metal Jacket" when a Vietnamese girl is propositioning American soldiers
Always love watching your food videos :) I wonder how many minutes or hours interval do you have after every meal or snacks??? The appetite man. It's superb.
