24 hours in Nagano, Japan : Travel Guide - what we did, saw and ate including Snow Monkey Park!

What do you do when you have 24 hours in Nagano? This is a beautiful city with wonderful sights and food. Let us guide you through what we did here.
We landed at 5pm and went for a delectable Shinshu beef BBQ dinner at Shinshu Meat Center. We were pleasantly surprised by how great Shinshu apple beef tasted. Highly recommended. We ended the night with warm sake and beer from Nagano Prefecture at Yamanoma Brewery.
The next morning was spent getting to the Snow Monkey Park where we witnessed very adorable snow monkeys frolicking in the onsen. The sight of the monkeys in the snowy background was unforgettable. We had a great lunch of sauce katsudon and Shinshu soba at Meijitei in Nagano Midori. We also tried the horse sashimi which is this region's specialty. We had some time to kill before our Shinkansen to Tokyo and we shopped and snacked at Nagano Midori. Bought some Shinshu apple snacks, Oyaki and shimichi togarashi (7 Spices). There are really many things to eat and buy in Nagano. We just did not have the time. So we will return to this place next year to follow up on what we have not tried. See you soon, Nagano. We stayed about an hour at the snow monkey park. It was the walking trail to the park that took a while as it can get very slippery and icy and you need to be very careful. The trail took us at least 45min each way. Snow cleats are highly recommended.

Thanks for watching! We visited Nagano in February. It was cold as we were there to ski in Hakuba. March would be slightly warmer than February. Single digit degree Celsius. We will also be there again in February and March next year. Enjoy the trip!

Hi there, I see that you opted to reserve your shinkansen ticket and timing in advance. Were there any concerns if you took the unreserved seats for the shinkansen back to tokyo?

We needed to reserve the seats as we had luggages that were bigger than the allowed overhead size. There weren’t a lot of such seats when we made the booking so seat reservation was necessary.
