Fun fact from a trauma counselor: not all video games are bad for your brain. It can release stress, creates healthy stress, increases dexterity, and if a child is struggling to open up, it can be used as a method to connect with teens. I think social media is far worse tbh.
I start 12th grade in a week!! I love watching all your kids grow up. I can't believe they're all starting 2nd, 5th,7th and 9th grade. I been watching your channel Jess since it was just Lilia and the twins and they were just 4 and 2. I was only 7 years old and I am almost 18 now. I can't believe I watched your family and kids come into this world and grow. Love you guys
for me, video games arent much of an issue during the weekdays. as long as their homework is done (me visually seeing it first) and chores are done, i think they deserve it at the end of the day. as a way to relieve stress in between school work.
i still cant wrap my head around that the boys have grown like the twins have grown up so much and there voices omg kyson hes goin to be such a nice kind guy when hes all grown up i cant wait to see what all 6 of ur kids do
We have a similar rule at our house when it comes to video games. Now that school has started they only get to play on Friday evenings and Saturdays for a little bit and Sundays are family days, we go to church in the morning and then for the rest of the day we watch movies, eat food, go to the park and just hang out and it has becomes such a wonderful tradition and my preteens are actually enjoying it
Hey Jess! My boys(7th grader and 9th grader) have video games Friday through Sunday. I used to let them play through the week, but they lost that privilege because of poor performance at school. Once we put it to a weekend thing only, they improved. This is coming from someone who played video games(the sims) every day. I always had good grades though lol
Our screen time rules for weekdays when I was a kid was always never before school, then after school homework first and switch off as soon as dinners ready! Always worked for us❤
I'm not a parent, but i wanted to share my opinion on the gaming thing as I have grown up playing them. I personally believe that depending on the game & the reasons why they might enjoy/play it, gaming can be helpful for a lot of people, because depending on the game you're still working your brain in a lot of different ways & in some cases can help teach certain things
As a not parent but a cousin who is half my age.... I think they are good moderation. I've seen kids that literally only play video games 🎮 and that was bad and the things they learn on mmmo games is interesting. With all the things they are in I don't think it would be bad. They are gone for too long to get addicted in my opinion.. but that's my personal opiniom
I have undiagnosed adhd and having screen time actually helps me to concentrate more and function better so for some cases screen time is brilliant. Also I love your channel so so much ❤❤
As a teacher, school is STRESSFUL for kids. They are constantly using their brains and working from one subject to the next. I think video games are a great way for them to relax and do something they enjoy after hours of work. After chores and everything else ofc.
OMG, the nerves before the first day are so real! 😱 I love how you handle it all, Jess. Can’t wait to see how Lilia adjusts to high school too! New adventures await! 🍂✨
Have been a gamer all my life! As someone with severe ADD especially all throughout my school years it really helped keep me focused and keep my mind moving. Gaming is way underminded. I’m 33 and still game daily to this day such an outlet for me
Keep it how it is. Because if they don't have limits.. they'll draw apart and stop doing things like swimming together etc because they'll be busy gaming etc etc. Keep it how it is. ❤
I love their arguments on why they should play video games. I'm totally on the same way I limit screen time a lot (my son's 9) it's just totally not good for them and my son it's just like your kiddos love their games OBSESSED actually it come in handy for discipline as well hehe you're doing great mama ❤
Usually during the week it’s only educational games like Animal Jam, during the week, and on weekends other games like fortnight. At least that’s what it is in our house. And even then it’s after homework and or sports.
We have been waiting for this stuff I hope we are finally getting caught up with their real life this summers vlogs were all over the place and so spread out we need to get a schedule of what days does she post when her content is gonna be super spread out
The fact that Lilla is in high school, the twins are in middle school, Landon is in 5th grade and Addy is in second grade I swear it was yesterday when they were born so idk how they you guys feel 😭😲
Part of allowing video games on school days allows children to learn self moderation. I had a cousin who wasn’t allowed junk food or video games and so whenever he was at my house all he did was eat junk and play games versus my sister and I always had the choice of what to eat or do. I believe this helped us learn to make the decisions that were best for us on our own. Maybe a few times we played games instead of studying or ate too much junk but it allowed us to learn and make better choices in the future without a parent making us do it.
Im not a parent but I watch my niece and my brother who is 7 years younger than me. I have also been playing video games since I was kid. I think video games are good in moderation but also the types of games. They can teach different life-skills like teamwork, collaboration, dexterity, creativity but it also depends on the kid.
It's natural for kids to want to do more of what they enjoy, whether you allow a lot or set limits. You know what's best for your family. Given the car conversation, maybe VR only on minimum days for a set amount of time may be a good compromise. Compromise is also a good skill to learn.
We allow 30 minutes of tablet time a night during the school year! They work hard at school all day and it's fun for them to wind down in the evening. Most nights they don't end up even going on the tablet by choice, but we never fully restrict the option. I can't go the entire week without being on my screen (computer/phone) so I just don't hold them to that same standard but I do put a time limit.
@@user-u1h7y it was the only room available at the time. MiMi’s room was bigger, & now they moved to the addition, the room is finally available. Lilia’s is smaller, so It looks more crowded. But Addie has lots of toys & stuff, so maybe it’s for the best. Landen has a huge room too… maybe one of the biggest.
@@KimmyDaydreaming lilia also has custom stuff in her room and everything she has fits fine for her addie is growing so it’s good to have a room to grow with her and if lilia had a concern about her room she would tell jess
Video games for us are fun games like soccer football non learning video games only for the weekends otherwise 30min per day the 30 min per day will get taken away if homework doesn’t get done
Video games were a core memory for me, and I even did a paper in high school stating why video games are not all bad for children, teens, etc. My mother didn't care if we played video games so long as we didn't fight over the computer (there was only one initially), and got school work and the like done lol
I'm not a parent but a big sister who often does after-school routine. My brother started middle school this year (6th grade where we live), and we're still working on video game rules. As of now, if he has homework, he knows it comes first. But I have tried to tell them that he really shouldn't be on it at all during school nights because it always causes a fight when it's time to get off and get ready for bed. It does help that he has soccer starting up this week, so now he won't have time to get on anything on those days.
I click so fast on this video. I’ve been waiting for this video for so long. I’ve seen stuff on TikTok but I wanted to see the real video of the kids first day of school. I’m so excited for this video. I love your channel you’re my favorite RU-vidr I love all your kids. They are growing up so fast.
I don’t agree with the video games being bad. Some are. But my sons both have always enjoyed video games and it’s something they enjoy as a hobby we don’t put limits but they go through spurts of playing a lot and not. My youngest son is 13
I think your Friday through Sunday is good. They are close in age that they play together. My kids play way too many video games but they’re five years apart and a boy and girl so she wouldn’t give him the time of day anyway.
I raised two girls (now 20 and 21). They never cared for video games but TV and phones were definitely struggle. Stick to your guns. What mama says goes. It will do them good especially in terms of getting enough rest for school and activities. You are a rockin’ great mom. Love getting to ride alone with your sweet family’s adventures ❤❤❤
I have a 5th grader, I allow video games after chores, and after homework is done. During dinner, no electronics also after 8pm, and none before school. 9 out of 10, he is out playing with friends after chores are completed. I do believe it goes with the saying that you do what is best for your family, If homework/grades start slipping or behaviors are poor I do take it away for the day! I don't allow social media other then youtube, which I monitor.
Hey Jess I read something at school saying that video games actually make kids have better focus due to them always having to know what’s going on in the game
Not a parent but my boyfriend grew up with anger issues. Playing video games was his release. His parents and grandparents were SUPER against it, until they saw the change in him. He wasn’t nearly as aggressive to them anymore because he finally had a healthy outlet
Please let me share my perspective on the video game thing with you. I don't play video games myself but my brother does. All through school he had trouble concentrating, did bad in school and had bad grades. My mom blamed it on screentime and took it away from him. He got worse. He didn't have an outlet any longer to release his stress. They found out he has ADD. Medicine, along with moderate screentime were the 2 things that helped him graduate high school. Our family councilor actually said that playing games where you have to strategize actually helps your brain prepare for the real world in a lot of situations.
Once there was a mouse in my bedroom. My Dad was at my school conference thing, so I stood on top of my bed until he got home. Took a week, but eventually we found him. I noticed someone was eating my Oreo’s. He was obsessed with Oreo cookies. So we put an Oreo on a trap & release thing… & we caught him within an hour.
My kids to play video games after all homework is done on our free nights. Which we won’t have many once everything starts back up. We always have a small break in between school starting and all the activities start. On the weekends they do however play the crap out of video games 😂
Im around lily's age and I start yr 10 in a week today and im so nervous cause im starting GCSE'S this year and im so nervous but i love ur videos and i love ur family!
Weekday screen time(video games and tv) is limited up to an hour a day as long as they've finished their after school to-do list in my house :) And there is absolutely NO screen time before school. My son went back to school last week and it's the primary complaint at the moment lol
Jess, they aren’t wrong. 😂. My daughter played games and oh my. Well she’s now 28 and co-owns a Gaming company and they have surplus over 2 million dollars. Now she works long hours to get there but yes they can make millions on gaming. 😂😂😂.
i dont have video game aged kids yet but when they are of age i will definitely allow video games during the school week howevvvver there will be limitations but i know how much of a stress releaver it can be also 9x/10 they are playing with friends so they are socializing!
This is why I like games and things like that because I can compromise with my kids. They can get screen time after they finish their homework. It’s like a reward.
So interesting to read these comments on gaming as I’m quite strict with my boys and how much time they spend playing! Like to see what others do tho as I don’t like stopping them from doing things they enjoy but I also don’t want to ruin their brains 😂
i am not a parent - but i'm the same age as you jess, and i can remember my mom not letting me play video games or go on the computer until my homework was done.
With me I’ve seen increase of school grades with more screens time but mine if they slip, it will go down again. It depends on child. Both of mine are on the spectrum so video games helps them stay focused and calm so as long as they are doing good in school and do their responsibilities and are kind to their family or friends, let the screen time slide. But that’s how I do it
After being invaded with rodents earlier this year we found these electronic plug ins that gets rid of rodents and bugs. It sends off some kind of high frequency sound that only rodents and bugs can hear. Dogs and cats are safe with them but I dont know about Iguanas We have been using them since January and no bugs, no rodents, NOTHING! We bought them at Home Depot and I'm sure you can get them on line as well. Good Luck!
If Wednesdays are short days seems like a good time to do some housework for game time. I don’t allow video games at all until Friday and Saturday that’s it. My kids are starting to not really play them anymore anyways. Just wait until the middle schoolers start going out after school with friends…end of video games.
When you were saying good night don't let the bedbugs bite well there's this really cute saying good night sweet dreams don't let the bedbugs bite and if they do hit them with a shoe and tell him I don't want to sleep with you my daughter is Arachnophobia about spiders.
Since I didn’t have cells growing up. My kids had to turn the phone over every day at 6 and could take them out when they got home. And no video games. They loved playing outside with their friends games like man hunt and stick ball
As long as they get their homework done, they are passing all their classes and chores done I’m okay with it. I know it’s this generation. 🤷🏼♀️ 😆 but they also know when we are gonna do family stuff no games lol
