One huge ability missing from the piano roll is scrubbing. Click and hold the scroll bar and move it over a midi region. It should play the notes that it crosses. Forwards and backwards. It's very helpful when you have a sour note amongst a cluster of notes. That kind of tool is invaluable and I miss it from my other DAW. With every update, I hope they include that. So far, no good!
Hi Sizzleman, Are you using Logic Pro and want to scrub? If so it is there! Right click on the Control Bar to open "Customize Control Bar". Under Transport scroll down and click "Pause" to add to the transport functions. Solo your region you want to "scrub", click Pause and scrub the Playhead over your notes! Easy!
Question. When I made a pattern with drums on Chanel rack then tried to add a piano using piano roll and played it back, my piano was off beat from my drums. How do I go about fixing that?
There is a trap in the Piano Roll Editor. If you hover the mouse over the highlighted area under the bar numbers, the pointer remains visible. It is not until you click the area you get the < >-sign that makes you able to set the play head. If you don’t let go of the mouse button immediately, you risk dragging the region out of sync. If the region is soloed you won’t notice it until you listen to it in context. Trust me😉 In the Audio Editor you have to press ⌘ to get the pointer. I would prefer that behaviour in the Piano Roll Editor too, but can’t find a way to change it. So, be careful out there.
Hey Chris love your videos on LP, quick question for you please. When I try to change any midi note on my piano roll it’s like my mouse gets the jitters and makes making any changes very difficult, have you any idea why this is so please ?
Does anyone know a way to turn off "remember last note length"-setting? When I input notes I most often need different note lengths. I find it very counter intuitive that Logic uses the last inputed length for the new note. The most intuitive way for me would be to always input note length left-to-right: Click where I want the note to start, drag (always right going >>> motion) to where I want it to end. With the default behavior of Logic, I have to: Click, drag left > (depending on the previous note). I tried to click "Define as Default Note", but this doesn't turn off this behavior...
Great video! Quick question....anybody knows how to EQUALLY raise/decrease volumen to a group of MIDI notes that have different volumes? Many thanks in advance!
