24 VOLT NOT 48 VOLT DC Solar Inverter to BEGIN WITH

In today's episode I show our house build receipts from start to finish. Then afterwards I go on to show the hookup and of the new 48vdc inverter with my 24vdc lithium batteries. I show how the built in bms is still communication fine between the batteries with no issues as long as I don't connect it to the BMS built in the new inverter and use USER DEFINED battery settings in the setup. I show how it is wired to our house with double switch and grid power override to the batteries.
Lastly I explain why I made the choice from day one to use 24vdc years past and why now I am upgrading to 48vdc now.

We have a 48 volt lithium ion battery pack on our Solar Plant. Only needed circuits are operating during brownout. Some major appliances like our refrigerator and waterwell circuit cut out by design. We need lights, CCTV, fans, internet pc, TV and air conditioner to operate during brownouts. Our lithium ion battery will last 3 to 6 hours at night and longer on sunny days. The Solar panels keep the battery charged on sunny days. It is required in our area for fire safety to have a dry type fire extinguisher mounted on the wall nearby the Battery pack.

150 amp in the Philippines is not the same as in North America. Double the volts half the amps Philippines uses 230v single phase ( on one leg) North America uses 120v 2 phase 120v + 120v to get 240v. 230v single phase is more efficient and uses small gauge wire then 120v service doing the same work. In a sense a 150 amp box here is like a 300amp in the USA. Next all of our appliances are updated inverter type equipment. That also has us pulling less of a load.

we are successful because we are beachside with unobstructed wind straight off the ocean from the direction of annual monsoon and tropical storms. Winning situation !

James I was just thinking during this video when you mentioned possible electrocution. An AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) would really be a good idea for your house. They are available now for less than $1,000 and they are voice prompted and can be operated by untrained personnel. An AED really could save a life of you, your family, or one of your guests. My father died from a sudden cardiac arrest and I will always regret not getting an AED into his house.

Kudos for a very informative video. Safety first always. I’m not an electrical guy but from video and friends I’ve talked to 48 V is not only better it might also reduce your long term cost. I would definitely opt for 48 V system and call a friend or find a knowledgeable electrician. Yes the culture is something else. My wife and I always butt heads over this. If she thinks something, it’s impossible to get her to listen to something that opposes her stance. She also likes to give directions. All of this is because of her life before me. She put herself through college (masters degree) which took years and worked in genetic research for 22 years with PhDs from around the world. Because of this she became the matriarch at home. She salary supported everyone and she never cooked, washed clothes or cleaned the house. It wasn’t her role. Then along comes Me! Who would think a girl from a poor family knew so little about cleaning, cooking or washing!

You say the cost has jumped in the Philippines which it has, but we are building a 4 bedroom, 3 bath 2400 square foot house for at least 50% less than it would cost in Canada and I'm sure the US. Yes costs of materials have gone up but labor and trades in Philippines is still low
@TexasFilipino

yes it can still be a good deal.
@tonyste12
@tonyste12 11 месяцев назад
one has to also compare salaries in the US/Canada, so if it is only 50% less, then prices have skyrocketed, the way I see it. So the cost have jumped by ALOT.

The cost of the build on our build was built to the highest western standard in the Philippines and could of saved a lot with less money spent on certain things such as tile, kitchen cabinets etc. Cost of new home builds in North America have alse skyrocketed, inflation at its finest

Thanks for your update. System has a lot cleaner look now with just one inverter. Lived on Okinawa and Diego Garcia for awhile. So, I know how humid it gets living that close to the ocean. I would think that the salt air must really do some damage over time. Curious about what you have done to water proof your connections and how you keep corrosion down to a minimum.

Calculate the loads such as fans and lights and non huge non induction loads and its hours of usage by 2 part 06:00 to 18:00 hrs and 18:00 to 06:00 for day & night calculations individually. And then multiply each wattage X usage hours results watt-hours of each electrical. isolate the night watt-hour and day watt-hour separately. multiply night WH X 120% for battery requirement calculations and then divide the result by 12/24/48 for 1,2 or 4 battery system. Add the day and night watt hours and divide by 5 results the wattage of panels to be used. By dividing solar panel wattage by your battery system voltage results the ampere required and then buy a suitable MPPT Charger controller 30% extra ampere range than that of calculation. Most important thing reduce your induction loads such as replacing old ceiling fans by bldc ceiling fans such as Superfan X1/V1 or gorilla instead of spending much in solar. your Wh calculations and solar panel/battery requirements are reduced at a much extent. Using transformer-less high frequency inverters without heavy induction load will reduce your solar budget and utilize your individual harvested self sustain power.

Hi, thanks for your understandable explanation. However, i've a question which came to my mind. When the batteries are fully charged and nothing is using electricity, and (!) you're not connected anymore to the mainnet. What happens than when solar pannels still produce electricity? The pannels will stop producing electricity due to software? Or what happens than?

Mr James. Great video. Another question. You said that the wind charger is totally separate from the solar. You have one fan. But 2 controllers? Or do I misunderstand? Is the 2nd one just pre-installed for when you put up the other fan? And then, the battery connection-- does it just bolt on any pos and neg terminal, or is there a rule for that? Sorry so many qstns, but I'll have to be installing my system alone, and I'm still quite ignorant about it. Thanks.

Some other islands have two 115 vac hots with no neutral. I think two 115 vac may be what Leyte has. Do you know if I am correct? If so will this make a difference in the solar system I choose?
