I purchased one of these “bundles” from EBay. I wouldn’t have been able to complete the installation without your video. Thank you! It’s a very tight build, which is borderline defective however now it’s done I’m glad to have a very small unit in my Ford Transit Custom LWB.

I bought one of these consumer unit and agree it ain't easy to connect. Had trouble, though, thinking it was just standard. The lack of information made it that way. Thanks for great video.

For RVs, caravans, motorhomes etc., you should have dual pole switching. This is case the supply you plug into or the extension cord you use, has the active and neutral wired the wrong way. You still need the earth leakage circuit (RCD) to work. The earth leakage circuit (RCD), same as you should have in your house, except you would have an active bus bar, neutral bus bar and an earth bus bar and a whole heap of circuit breakers for what ever functionality you require. The diagram is just a simple circuit catering for dual pole, which is confusing you. The one with the active and neutral running through it is 'monitoring' the two to see if there's an imbalance; such as when something has gone wrong and shorted to ground. It will typically trip within 30 milliseconds (less than a heart beat) if that occurs.

The regulations for campervans/motorhomes/caravans etc, say that you need a double pole RCD. 18th edition wiring regulations 2022. It may have been updated since.

Oh god, that is so wrong! it actually says, and I quote: 721.43.1 'Each final circuit shall be protected by an overcurrent protective device which disconnects all live conductors of that circuit' where does that say double pole MCB's? yes, ok, the most common way to address this is a double pole MCB, but you could also use a 2P RCBO's etc etc etc...

So wiring regulations section 721:- Only flex should be used with a minimum CSA of 1.5mm. A 16A breaker should be used with a 2.5mm cable for sockets. The use of C-curve breakers are likely too slow to trip in the required time due to long circuit lengths. A 10A breaker for sockets is wrong and fusing the Neutral is very wrong. Imagine what happens when you exceed 6A and the Live is still live on the 10A breaker. You think the circuit is dead when the 6A breaker trips on the Neutral side, but the circuit would actually be live. "Never fuse Neutrals'. Also the RCD is the old type AC, RCD's & main switches should be top fed, breakers should be bottom fed, there is no busbar.... The list goes on....

Top advice here is if you are not sure which is the in and out on an mcb 😔😔😏😏, get an electrician to do it!

Good tip! but not at £100 an hour

@@MrMeltedwellies I'm less than £100 per hour and still wouldn't leave you in a dangerous situation with a fused Neutral. That's shocking, literally...

You didn't add a thick N. Wire?

I'm shocked watching this vlog your clearly not an electrician this is not how you wire a consumer unit as the supply should come in through the top of the RCD and feed via a busbar along the bottom into the MCB's, the load is taken from the top of the MCB's, there are too many youtubers that are showing vlog's that have no experience of electrical installation. I've been an industrial and commercial electrician for nearly 40 years, It seams everyone who carriers out van builds are an expert in electrical installation, My advice is check the information with a qualified tradesman and DON'T trust what you see on youtube no matter how professional they seam.
