I found this VIDEO " Very Helpfull ". My Mac Pro already had the 3.2 processors in it, but I wanted to put NEW THERMO PASTE on the Heat Sinks after 13 years!!!. You did a Great job explaining the various steps involved. Thanks!
Thank you for this video! I was reading the procedure on ifixit website and for what I understood, the heatsink for the 3.2 GHz processor have a silver coat. Here I copied the text: The Mac Pro (Early 2008 Dual 3.2 GHz) computer uses a special coating on the processor heatsink and processor to manage the temperature in the computer. The silver-colored coating comes applied to the underside of the heatsink and the top of the processor
have my 32gb riunning 24-7 for about 5 years now after buying it USED for about 200$ Canadian. absolute beast. the ONLY problem is the software is SUPER annoying about versions... and specific mac OS... had lots of trouble with stuff like iMovie and even burning a DVD movie. had to use a free app... as nothing on AppStore is "free" or working.
belle video !!! j''aimerais connaitre la reference de votre carte graphique que vous avez mis ? merci Nice video !!! I would like to know the reference of your graphics card that you put ? Thank you
I’m planning on doing the same kinda swap here soon, although instead I’m popping in (2) x5470’s. These come stock at 3.33ghz but if you tape off a couple pins and solder a couple together for voltage you can run them at 4ghz 😉😉
I've heard the quality of these systems is considerably better than the newer ones. The X5482 should be a considerable upgrade from an E5462; most of the benefit is probably going to be from massively parallel loads, though. Bad capacitors on the mainboard shouldn't be too much of a problem since most of them are OS-CON. The ones to look out for are the ones around the VRMs and in the power supply. Scott Shop Rags and reasonably dry isopropanol work very well for thermal grease. What was the beeping sound?
The long reach hex is cool. You dont have to remove the ram cage. I use myself a regular hex key with ball end. Only more work. The first time the ram cage is hard to remove but after a couple times, its a breeze.
Did I get it correctly that 2008 early models had covered with metal processors while 2009 had those with exposed DIEs to improve on cooling? I'm not looking for 2009 5.1 mac pro but I might have a more realistic chance to get 2008 early 3.1 Mac pro and thinking if it's worth it. If I skip this 3.1, not sure when I will have a chance to get 5.1
Would you know how to Diagnose Slot 1 in a MacPro 2008? I get power but I can't seem to get video, i have zapped the pram, nvram, etc. I have tried 2 of the original cards that came with the device, they are working cards and work fine in slot 2 but I can't seem to get video in slot 1 no matter what I do. Any suggestions?
Please, Tell me, e5462 tô x5482.... Haver much Very much diference tô work???? Can u give me example, how much.... Tô me see, If i buy x5482 or not..... X5482 is the best for Mac pro 2008 right???? Im from Brazil, Sorry bad english
Alright mate. Question. I have the same specced Mac Pro as you. I've got the SSD upgrade, 32 gb ram, etc etc. Would you recommend that I upgrade to the latest 15 inch Macbook (Note not Mac Pro) Pro? Is it worth the upgrade?
MCChristor Media Production - yes and no, if you don't tend to max out the CPU anyway, then probably not, I did it because of the video editing I do, for me it was a small speed improvement, about 5% or so. To get more speed first change to an SSD, the Samsung 850 evo I found faster than some other brands I tried, also consider adding more ram, 16gb seems enough for most things, I have 32GB.
Hi Defpom, Ive got and early 2008 Mac Pro, its running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 and I am having trouble getting El Capitan on it? Is there a way to do this?
Hi, the 2008 can run 10.11 OK, the is what I was running on it, it could be an issue with a third party card, I never had that issue but did hear of people having problems with system updates if they didn't have the original graphics card installed. Other things are the current date and time of the machine, if you have the installer on a flash drive for example it could be too old and so its certificate has expired, change the computers date to something like 2010 and try it again (without an internet connection).
EL Cap should run native (no hacks) on a Mac Pro 3,1.... Perhaps you should complete a "fresh" load on a second newly formatted drive....This is a pretty straight forward operation
Actually your Mac aside of running El Capitan natively will run Sierra, High Sierra, Mohave using Dosdude1 patches. I have a 10.6/10.12/10.13 multiple boot in my 3.1 Mac Pro. What do you mean for "having trouble"? Anyway, you can download it from Apple: support.apple.com/en-us/HT206886 Regards
you can get the cpus from eBay or a quick google search can give you plenty of options to purchase. check out my Mac Pro upgrades ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8YdpN1kk2Wk.html
Ok got a chance to purchase this computer 2 CPU’s at 2.66 for $50 cash...2008 Mid....what do you think??? What the highest CPU’s I can put in this machine? 5690’s??
Would I be able to follow this to keep my CPU from being maxed out while streaming on my early 2008 Mac with 2.4 Intel Core Duo processor? I've read only that I cannot add anymore memory. I'm currently at 4 GB. Thx
daniel cardozo I did the 64 gb with high Density memory modules on my early 2008 Mac Pro 3,1. I’m already at duel 3.0 so it may not be worth the money for me to do this upgrade, though I still want to just to have it maxed out. Unless I find a great deal I may just leave it where it is processor wise. Great vid
Marlon Castro - I don’t believe it made a difference to that no, I expect there is some kind of hack to do it though, personally I wouldn’t go above 10.12 anyway due to changes in the system, I now use a 2010 Mac Pro? which can run a later OS, but anything later than 10.12 breaks some of the software I use.
Dosdude1 patched High Sierra works just great , even better than Sierra. I have just had a compatibility issue with the ATI HD 5870 (Won´t wake up from sleep) Aside of that, it is all good.
Thanks for the reply, I got one of these for free missing a power button and a couple other parts. Debating on getting it working again. The power buttons are abit expensive, especially compared to the other parts in the mac.
@@techienerd1991 That would be awesome. Perhaps we could discuss recommendations for parts and I'd be happy to pay for your time to help me upgrade my mac tower. Thanks!
@@techienerd1991 I'm not sure but It's a 2.8 8 core. I'm not that computer savvy which is why I need a little help upgrading it. You can email me at gavinleighton at gmail. Thanks!
@@techienerd1991 Hey bud, would love to get your help on my Early 2008 Mac Pro. I'm in LA also. My email address is my user name (dannycaliforni4) at gmail. Looking forward to hearing from you.
Defpom's Electronics & Repair thank for the replay I just order a old pc 10 year old Mid 2010 Xeon Quad Core @ 2.8GHz 8GB RAM 1TB HD Adobé 2018. Condition is Used. How fast is this
Why?? Simple, because in principle you are right and no one in a factory context would dream of doing otherwise. In practice, use common sense, wash your hands thoroughly, make sure - even more importantly to touch the frame of your mac and if possible wear a anti-static wrist strap - before touching the hardware inside, and you will be ok. Static charges are far more dangerous to the good health of a computer than a average clean pair of hands ;-) I still have a Mac 9600 MP and just about any other Mac that followed and did all upgrades myself - from RAM to hardrives to replacing screens on Macbooks and nothing ever went wrong. Just don't eat a quarter pounder and fries prior to operating on your computer, makes sense no??! ;-)
I just finished my upgrade of the 2009 Mac Pro, I upgraded from 2 x 2.97ghz quad core to 2 x 3.46 hexicore cpus, 128Gb Ram, and much more. I basically maxed it out, I ended up going with a radeon r9 280x since it is the strongest video card apple supports natively.
