@TheWolfpire You do realize that the Powerstroke logo has been around since the mid 1990's???. It was hands down king of the light truck diesels until around 2003.
@halfacre65 they did "go away from the 7.3" because of the government forcing them too. Also ford came to Navistar and said that they wanted a smaller engine with more power, which then turned into the catastrophe that we know as the 6.0L Powerstroke.
They didn't just go away from it, they were forced away. I don't think the 6.0L is a catastrophe. Early models (03, 04) they hand turbo, egr, and head bolt problems of which most were related to programmers and stupid operators. My 06 6.0L can get 18.6mpg reliably every week and it is stock (3.73 rearend). The new 6.7L gets that easily so it is a beast but I do agree with you. The 7.3L was by far the best. Also have an 05 6.0L with 312k miles on it, runs on burnt transmission fluid.
@Yotaoffroadtech You are 100% right, u cant replace the 7.3, it was the best engine, but for those who hvnt experienced a 7.3, Elite Diesel has made a Stroker 7.3L kit for the 6.4L Power Stroke, so everyone can enjoy one....
@truemudder88 I realize that, yes i failed to think of that in my original post, but my point was conveyed. Most people think of the F-Series as the 1/2 ton 3/4 ton and 1 ton trucks, and fail to think of the F-650 and up class of truck. Thanks for pointing out my mistake and have a nice day.
@redmoon1979 actually the duramax was a joint venture between gm and isuzu. the company that resulted from that venture is D-max enterprises whose one and only factory is in moraine ohio. the allison transmission plant is located in white marsh,md. speaking in terms of the duramax/allison powertrain there is not one piece that has come from china/japan. the ford 6.7 powerstroke is made in Chihuahua, Mexico.
You can see the dodge take off before the Ford even starts turnin'. But when he puts it in, dodge was kinda out done. Cummins is a good engine, but the old 7.3 powerstrokes made by international are beastly engines.
@Yotaoffroadtech85 not arguing or starting anything, but yes the stroke is a v8 and the cummins IL6, but the cummins does push out more torque than the stroke, and dodges driveline set up is the work-horse, ive only seen the dodges pulling the car haulers with three fords on it.
@westsidelogger Unless you have lockers front and rear or some type of limited slip set up they dont...people get confused when the side of thier rig says 4x4...that really means you have 1 front power tire and 1 rear power tire.
This is exactly how the pull should play out...Cummins, tons of low end tree stump pulling torque. Powerstroke = good low midrange to upper midrange powerband.
indeed, it seems that car designers have finally got the idea and have started the arms race again. This is also apparent with the camaro, challenger, and mustang...
Muscle cars have been around since the begining of cars, and ford/doge/chevy have always been at the front. Just recently dodge hasn't had a main sports car, but the srt4, viper, and srt8 variants of everything show they still follow the sport cars. Its seems when the times get tuff, the manufactures fall back to their roots, but this is not going to save them. People have changed, and people need good, cheap, reliable transport.
@bevman45 Ford didn't "go away" from the 7.3.. The government stepped in and said they needed to lower emissions so thats whey the came out with the 6.0L, lower emissions came again so they went to a 6.4 and the engine is strong but not good on fuel so they 6.7l was created and it, in my option, is just below the 7.3l.
My .02... nothing will ever beat the reliability of the 7.3 Powerstroke or the 5.9 Cummins. Chevy changes motors way too much for me to trust them. IMO I'd like to see a Cat motor paired up to an Allison transmission. Then we would see just how strong the Allison really is. :)
@FANADICALCOWHEAD duramax's are built in moraine, ohio btw, and it is built by a division of GM, a joint venture between GM and Isuzu, so no it is not manufactured by isuzu, it is manufactured by GM. and btw GM owns 49% of isuzu
The 7.3 Powerstroke is good, but the 5.9 Cummins is better. Regardless, either engine is better in an easier to work on square body truck. The Cummins wins hands down over any 6.0 or 6.4 Powerjoke. Remember folks, real trucks have vent windows.
you could tell that the ford one anyway because the the guy driving the ford was late on the throttle, witch gave the dodge a advantage, and the ford still came back and would have kept going too :O
@CannonPros I keep asking you to explain the decrease. Jan 35.8k ---> Feb 37.5k That's an increase. What time frame are you looking at? Or just go run off because you can't explain that.
@brade07 Yes, it's true that ford owned 15% of Cummins stock around 1990, sometime after that they sold back 10% of it and held onto the other 5% until 1997 when Cummins bought it back. Ford has never owned enough of the company to put them in the F-Series of trucks. This rumor that Ford owns/Owned Cummins needs to really be put to rest...
I own an 01 cummins and I am as big of cummins fan as the next guy, but i still love the duramax. Any cummins fan here would not want to race a 04 or newer D-Max with the same mods their cummins has. Their Faster trucks, pulling is another story, the cummins will take it every time. And as for the powerstroke? Well when a company tries 4 different engines in a little over 12 or 13 years i'm not impressed. Every powerstroke owner i know is trying to sell it to buy a D-max or cummins.
Ford used the 7.3 up to the 2003, and it wasn't called a "powerstroke" until 1994. I talked to a guy that had put stacks on his 6.4 powerstroke, said it was the biggest mistake he ever made. had to bust up his bed and lost all of his torque.
My dad has a 06 Dodge 24v Cummins and my uncle has a 7.3 Ford. The Ford has a better transmission (both are 6 speed Manuals), a better transfer case, and a better built chassis. but the Cummins has more power , so stop arguing about it, if you have a diesel it's badass no matter what brand it is Ford Chevrolet or Dodge
@Shaneinwoodstock Yes the 7.3 was discontinued, but because there are so many of them out there, ford parts.com still makes full engine assemblies of all 7.3s... I have a 1994 IDI 7.3 International w/ factory turbo, they only had this engine with the turbo available for a year and a half, due to the release of he Power Stroke in July '94....I can go on ford parts.com and I found the complete assembly for mine for $4000, just do some research and you can find just about anything for them still
GO FORD! Even pulling uphill, the Ford yanked that Dodge back. Imagine if they were on level ground... Ford would've dominated. Both are American trucks at least, so they're both cool. I prefer Ford though.
JcTheKillaClown... Both trucks are within a couple of years of eachother, the dodge could be newer for all we know. The kids are having fun though, thats all that matters.
I'm a chevy but I have to say the 7.3 powerstroke is probably one of the best engines EVER built and clearly spanked that gay ass cummins ass either the cummins jumped the gun or had more traction in the grass
@CannonPros How can you go down from 40% to 14%, but sell more units? I already posted January and February sales. 35.8k to 37.5k is an increase in my book.
Good match... Nice draw. I'm surprised the Powerstroke didn't win, it has a longer wheelbase which helps a bit. Proud of the Cummins though. Lacking two pistons, 75 cubes and 40% less moving parts than the Powerjoke. ^_^ Gotta love the Inline 6!!
@CannonPros Compensation? Maybe you should look into that. "This just in. Ford sales way down. They decreased -14% from the month past." -CannonPros So that means they went up. By the way. "Your" is possessive, I believe the word you're reaching around for is, "you're".
let me put it this way. fords are the best for hauling loads, dodge, Chevy, and Toyota are more for having fun. ever notice how the commercials for them 3 are about like mudding, going in snow, jumping and crap and ford is all about hauling? yea
now I could agree with you if you had said Cummins > Powerstroke, Duramax.. the cummins can not be beat, even GM has yielded to it's power and pulled the whole if you can beat them join them thing... and now GM offers a cummins in its diesels, granted its a fuckton more cash, but even GM recognizes the Cummins as a badass engine.. that should tell you something about it if they are changing their whole setup to offer it haha
I have a truck like the powerstroke one stack blue with bushwackers and 35s, mine is also a manual. I want to know what he did to make it smoke because that's power.
@Seetherwind yeah same with the cummins buddy. it doesnt matter. when your back in the woods way far away in no mans land with ropes tied to your ball hitches then yeah sure why not. but in reality they can all tow what they need to and that's it
Cumstain....we can all make jokes but look at the video again. The cummins pulled a loose rope and the powerstroke pulled his ass right back to were he started
@youknub - The majority of Chevy fans are like that. I get it every night. One of the most crushing examples of this is this guy has a 1974 Chevy C10 with a 454 running a tiny 550 CFM carb. He claimed 300 horsepower and 400 lb/ft of torque. I bet him my 97 Ranger with intake/exhaust mods could outdyno his truck, and the loser would pay. I put 143 down at the wheels, he put 140 down. I had to explain de-tuning to him to explain why he lost.
Cat and Detroit need to start building engines for pickups. Then there would actually be a reason to buy a diesel powered pickup. Fords still rule though.
Did you know that the modern supercar corvettes and cadallac super cars still use F^(&ING pushrods? I'll give it to ford, their engine tech is up to par, but chevy just takes the same thing, polishes a little and throws some boost into it and usually keeps up, they haven't done anything for the industry in a very very very long time....
@FANADICALCOWHEAD Not anymore. And it wasn't solely built by isuzu and even if it was whats wrong with isuzu they are only a leader in diesel technology. You must love that european 6.0
yeah I wasnt sure about the powerstrokes, sorry. But thanks for the info! I'm just tired of every 19 yr old kid on youtube thinking they are master diesel mechanics and know everything about them.
Thats what it used to be about, and not what people care about now, obviously, with the recent demise of general motors... My B18C1 GSR engine is 1.8 liters and is capable of 700 hp on 116... it doesn't take a v6 to keep up with a v8, and weight is the enemy of everything automotive, cornering, braking, accelerating, and chevy just doesn't do it right... Sure, old guys who never got caught up into DOHC or FI are following the chevy trend and just getting into FI now.. but thats not the masses
well, there are not a whole lot of true american sports cars, mostly just sporty cars. But i think it's interesting that they are all beefing up, maybe muscle cars are making a comeback.
Dodge's are made to fit the people who drive them. Big, loud and high maitenance! they are like the high school bully, they talk loud, look big, push others around, but aren't shit in reality, and get their ass beat by the "normal" kid (duramax or powerstroke).
I’m a dodge fan but the power stroke 7.3 was gonna win that little less hp more torque in a big Block a bigger engine runs a longer stroke to achieve the same rpm the cylinder compression chamber is bigger more strength with the larger piston but it can never achieve high hp it can’t cycle enough
@bevman45 I agree but they had to when the new emissions standards came out. the 7.3 did not met the new requirements and they would have had to spend a lot on R&D to get it to meet up. The 6.0 already met the standards (or did with minor changes) so they stuck with the shit 6.0 engine. Money plays a major part in this type of stuff and the gov't shelling out all the new emissions bullshit makes it expensive for these companies. I dont agree with Ford keeping the 6.0 but I don't blame 'em.
The cummins had it until it burned its tires and lost traction. Not bad Modded and chipped Powerjoke vs Stock cummins = tie lol. Put them on pavement and give them both good drivers and the powerjoke will win.
@godsmack8807 dude good question. we just do. not fully sure how tho..lol my dad has a 97 f 150.its got the 351.its not really gutless.but it shifts hard when you get on it. an i drove a 2006 dodge 1500. an i hated it
