in my mind we will never again hear music like the shadows performed throughout the years ,when I first heard the shads in the 60s I can not explain the thrill I got from the music ,I am 74 now [ losing It a bit ] but still enjoy listening to them . wish they would get together again. COME ON SHADS DO IT FOR US OLD ONES
First time I saw The Shadows live was the guys backed up by Cliff Hall and Alan Jones at The London Palladium. This is like having half the guys here and still has the magic.
It's a great shame that instrumentals went out of fashion. Such great artists as Duane Eddy, The Ventures, Sandy Nelson, Johnny and the Hurricanes, Santo and Johnny, The Surfaris and many others were all great. Today's pop music doesn't do a thing for me sadly. Still us oldsters had the best.
I would argue instrumentals just moved to a different genre. I mean, Steve Vai and Joe Satriani have sold millions and millions playing jazz fusion instrumentals.
I am 1961 March born......and that speech paying tributes with kind thanks and remembrances in his speech (before handing over to FBI)....turned me emotional the moment he said "This is the last one " .....Shadows will be with me...forever ....I've gotten used to enjoying their music right from when I was born ....and Dad would be come out with his gusto dancing on the floor with a peg in is hand all through those sixties , seventies .......late evenings we'd all be at home enjoying the likes of Cliff and Humperdinck, Paul Anka and Sinatra....The Ventures and The Shadows.....
I again had an absolute blast at both the main event and at the pre-Shadowmania shows. Repeating what was said by me to Bruce later that evening, "Thanks for all the music over the years". I wish it would never end, but then again we have to respect Bruce's wishes. It is good to see the younger "Hank Marvins" and others on stage and elsewhere carry on the legacy. The music of the Shads will live on...and hopefully some morph of Shadowmania will emerge to continue the magic of "That Sound"...
A lot of passion goes into these performances. I mean, Bruce Welch is a wealthy man. He wrote most of the Shadow’s hits and many of Cliff Richard’s biggest sellers as well. But he’s still out there, playing in front of smaller crowds, for the love of music
Well,, a million thanks Phil for all your effort in bringing this last Shadowsmania 2012 to us. If we ever meet up the first pint is on me! May I on behalf of all the viewers say a BIG thank you! Brian
i am so upset that i will never get to see or hear the shadows again my favourate as to be bruce the founder of the shadows and the one who kept them going all these,s years they will still and all ways be the greatest long live bruce and the shadows
Met Bruce at the Half Moon Putney a couple of years ago, he was there to See Chip playing with his Sons Chesney Hawkes, I was there with Rob Davis (MUD) & his wife, Bruce was really nice took time to have a Chat 😎👍🏻
Hi James - You're very welcome. The Shadows called that track "Hello Mr W.A.M" Wolfgang_Amadeus_Mozart It's the track they always close their concerts with, and I'm pretty sure It's the Clarinet Concerto in A. Always been a favourite of mine. All the best... Phil
Hi Phil, Thanks for your reply and information. Based on your answer, I searched 'Hello Mr W.A.M.' Apparently this is a tune from the soundtrack of American Gigolo, inspired by Mozart's Clarinet Concerto in A Major. I found that The Shadows version was released on the Album 'Change of Address'. Anyway, I appreciate the info, along with your wonderful uploads of Shadowmania and your own productions. All the best, James
Hi James - well I've learnt something - I thought it was The Shadows idea - just found American Gigolo music on youtube and there it is including the Disco bit in the middle and the same ending ! So The Shads made their version of this rather than Mozart's - Still good though - Thanks for the info. Much appreciated - Cheers Phil
Great coverage brings a lot of great memories back. I have been trying for ages to find out why Phil Kelly wasn't on some of these, it looks like, from what Bruce said that Phil was poorly? Any info on Phil please. Best regards Stuart Crook.
Hi Phil, Can't thank you enough for capturing and uploading the magical moments of the final Shadowmania. Your effort is very much appreciated, especially those like me who could not make it. By the way, is that Mozart's Clarinet Concerto in A Major being played Hank-style as the video fades out? Thanks again and all the best! James
Love this track. Thanks for sharing! I've just uploaded my own version of F.B.I if you're interested in seeing it here 🤟://ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jRIq40es0Ss.html
I would have thought after 50 odd years he would have learned to play a bit of lead....even i can play rhythm and lead to most of these.......and i am crap.........
He was never interested in playing lead. If you’ve ever listened to a few interviews he has done over the years it’s always been rhythm that interests him. He left all the flashy stuff to Hank!
Why?? It was the last one and it meant a great deal to us fans and Bruce himself. If you’ve ever been to any shads gigs you would no they always interacted with the audience and made them feel a part of the show. Maybe you prefer someone like Noel Gallagher with the personality of a slug and no rapport at all!
Yeah your handle is correct. Plonker the dance moves yes a little cheesy now but it’s part of the shads act. Wouldn’t be the same without them. Plonker!
wow, apreciation for the 45 years but i am glad it;s over i never liked the sound of marvin, too many delay and too few good fast and rocky riffs, it;s just simple playing. I like the american players more, sorry but any way also the madness of the fiesta red colours seems crazy too, an ugly colour, but never the less respect for bruce and his mates.Hope to see less fiesta reds strats. uhh they are realy ugly.
albert van... sumbody or otha... Wat a stupid comment from an apparently stupid person! What is inside the head of somebody who trolls and spends time commenting on something he doesnt like! Always beats me! Why not bugger off to watch American music videos.. and get a.... blaaaaaccckkkk Les Paul...... the worst axe on thi market!... Well.. we are all entitled to our opinions eh?!!
What a complete mess this is, either use the orignal people or leave it alone. Hank im afraid is the missing ingredient and its very very noticable. Dont fool yourselves this not the shadows, not even close. Just shows you cant copy talent!
