Hi Shawn! Special Ed Teacher here. As the school year wraps up, I wanted to share my sincere gratitude for these resources--especially during the lockdown! I run a Zoom social skills group with some of my non-neurotypical students, and your creativity and resourcefulness have saved me a lot of time and stress trying to plan and keep them engaged. Have a great summer!
I had spent sooooo many hours looking for cool, real and insteresting activities for my classes on Zoom... and then I found your videos!!!! they gave me so many ideas!! THANK YOU!!
That is so nice of you. I’m sure your sister is very thankful. I can certainly relate to how difficult it is to clean your house with your kids around. How old is your nephew? ❤️
Thank you for these! For game #20 I think you mean you'd send the person who can't hear the theme to a breakout room by themselves (instead of muting them...when they'd still hear the theme!)
Yes! Lol I think I was imagining players muting their sound on their end rather than they themselves being muted. Lol. I said that completely wrong. Break out rooms would also work. Great idea. ❤️
Not yet. I’m working on a pdf with written instructions of all games plus links to the videos where I talk about them but I have over 100 games so it’s taking me a while. I’ll post on my community tab when it’s done. 😊
Love this stuff. Kind of burned out needed to create fresh content. Purchased several things and my only comment would be that you should charge a bit for for the work you.
Thanks Steve! I sincerely appreciate your purchases on my website. 😊 I probably should charge a couple dollars more. I honestly didn’t think people would buy my stuff but have been pleasantly surprised it’s been going over so well. Would you think $4 or $5 per digital download? Any specific type of games you are looking for?
@@ShawnMHowell My students are 9-10 years old. We are having zoom classes these days, due to the pandemic, both online and pre-recorded.. So your tips are very useful!
hi, Shawn.. nice meeting you in virtual. Your ideas are amazing and would probably apply /use it. can you send me link on the virtual background? thank you and stay safe.
Hey ShawnMHowell, not sure if you are still responding to comments. Thank you so much for your videos! I am using some of the games to help foster children connect with their biological parents that live in separate states to build bonding relationships over zoom visitation. I love your energy and thank you for your time on this project. In the above video I can't seem to find zoom instructions on how to choose an image to create the game dots and blocks. I also can't find instructions on how to upload a coloring sheet and allow all participants to color together. Could you please send me step by step directions or more details on how to access these on Zoom? I tried talking to a support person on zoom and they were not helpful. :(
Hi Christina! I’m so happy that my game ideas are useful to you, the kids, and their biological parents. This brings joy to my heart. Here is a video tutorial on how to color a pdf via Zoom screen share feature: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-o1QMBE0YaL0.html
And here is a link to my website with 10 pdf games (including dots and boxes) that can be used via zoom screen share. www.shawnmhowell.com/product-page/pen-paper-game-pack-10-printable-games
Great question! Zoom offers a feature called “adjustable gallery view” that allows you to pin people in place. Learn about it here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pzIJcZO2TlY.html
Very true but lots of games don’t use the annotation tools and I have 100s of game ideas on my channel. 🤗 you are in the right place for game ideas. Here’s a playlist of my game ideas: ru-vid.com/group/PLr3JyJlapOYRR_bhWduft1d3vtYyR2lQz
Sure. Thanks. 😊 this is the link to download the free zoom backgrounds mentioned in this video. Just enter code RU-vid20 at checkout and you’ll get them for free. You do have to go through the checkout process but if you enter the code, you don’t have to input payment info. 😊 www.shawnmhowell.com/product-page/zoom-backgrounds-united-states-collection
Hi! Thanks for the ideas. I have a doubt about "what's the theme?" how won't the it person know about the theme? How won't he/she hear the theme if someone will say it? I don't understand, I would appreciate an answer. Thanks in advance
Great question. To play “what’s the theme?” on Zoom, the zoom host will think of a theme. The zoom host will then pick an “it” person and mute that person. Basically have this person turn off their audio so that they cannot hear the conversation. I did misspeak here and wrote about my mistake in the description box of this video. But basically the zoom host will ask the “it” person to turn off their audio so that they cannot hear the conversation. Then the zoom host will tell the other players the theme and explain how to describe the theme. The zoom host will then type on chat, or text the “it” person’s mobile phone that the group is ready to play and the “it” person should turn their audio back on. I hope this helps explain further. Please let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks for watching! 🎉
It is very difficult when no student turns on the camera😖 I've been watching a lot of videos but most of them requires the cam. I'm not even a teacher yet, I'm doing my practicum and it's very complicated to make students participate or even turn their mics on :(
ugh. I am so sorry. I can't even imagine how difficult it is for teachers this past year and a half. And I imagine that you get very little support from parents. What age are your students? I can direct you to another video of mine and suggest some games that don't require a camera if I know the age of your students.

10:20 Africa is a CONTINENT. With 54 entire sovereign countries. Fifty four. CONTINENT. Much love from Ethiopia -country code 251 -in Africa. 🙂 Five four. 👀
Yep. This I know. I pinned a comment and corrected my mistake in the description box of this video. Antartica is also a continent and not a country. I accidentally edited out me saying “continent and state”. Mistakes happen I’m human. Thanks for understanding. 🤗 virtual hugs
Drawing games do NOT work. People use pens/markers that are poorly visible to others on screen, especially when everyone's little 'screen' is teeny-tiny on your ipad or iphone and you are squinting to see what others drew.
Thanks for sharing your experience with drawing games. Drawing games work great on laptops and computers and iPads, in my experience. My son’s school uses chromebooks which are both a laptop and tablet. Did you find a game in my video that would work for your setting? Are you a teacher? I have over 10 Zoom game videos so maybe I can suggest another video for you to watch if you’d like. 😊
Hi Shawn! Thank you so much for sharing! These games are very interesting. I just happened upon your videos while searching for games to play for my daughter's virtual birthday party. We sure can use most of these games (she's an adult) However, I'd like to call your attention to your example in the game Name a County. Canada - Africa - Antarctica, but Antarctica and Africa are both continents and not countries with Africa having 56 countries inside! This information is important especially for teachers who may want to play the game with their students. Thank you very much for sharing your passion and connecting and bringing joy to families during this difficult period.
You are correct about the difference between a country and a continent. Thank you for pointing it out. Happy birthday to your daughter! You might be interested in this game here for her party: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--cq_42kdR2o.html
Hello friends! Just wanted to let you know that there is a mistake in this video. I’ve written about it in the description box of this video. Sorry for any confusion this my have caused. Thanks for understanding. Also, if you are looking for more Zoom game ideas, I've created a playlist: ru-vid.com/group/PLr3JyJlapOYRR_bhWduft1d3vtYyR2lQz
Great stuff! From an objective standpoint your editing and graphics keep getting better and better! Keep on making great videos and I am sure you will keep growing!!
Thanks Todd! My MacBook kept over heating while editing this video. Lol. I just kept adding graphics, broll, sound effects and it was longer than usual. I had soooo much fun though. Husband was like-why are you filming yourself eating chips? 😂
Thank you very much! Fantastic ideas! It has been a real challenge to play games online, but you „saved” me :) I can't wait to play them with my students! Sending love from Romania :)
Fun! I hope you found some fun games to play with your students. I have a new video just posted today with 15 new Zoom game ideas you might enjoy: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7TTEXAcexjs.html
This video was created back in 2020. Zoom has a new feature called “whiteboard” that you can color in. If you update the Zoom app on your desktop or laptop, the whiteboard feature appears at the bottom of the window when you open up a meeting. I don’t have an updated tutorial of this feature at this time.
Correct. I misspoke and put a correction in the description box of my video. I meant to say that the “it” person will need to turn off their audio so that the other players can discuss and decide on a theme.
Great ideas! Thank you for sharing. Can you please speak little slower next time? I could not catch my brief while you are talking, had to pause video several times. And my English is not that bad and I am used to native speakers. But you are just like the FLASH from comics.
So sorry I speak so fast. I do try to speak slower in my other videos after this one. I just get so excited to share so much information in a short amount of time. 😂 but I’ll work on it. ❤️
That castle is in southern Germany. It’s called Neuschwanstein and it’s the castle that the Disney castle is based on. I know this bc my brother lives nearby in Munich about an hour north of there!
That is a great video idea. Thank you! I'll put that on my list to film. I do have lots of non-competitive game ideas but they are sprinkled throughout my videos.
Thank you so much for the ideas! As a therapist seeing kiddos 1:1, would you be willing to respond with your super fast teacher brain of the best 1:1 games?
Hi! Off the top of my head, and not knowing ages of kids, good 1:1 games...try tic Tac toe or hangman (but use a mouse trying to get to cheese) using the whiteboard feature. Also try my newest video today all about icebreaker games specifically meant to get to know kids on a deeper level and/or take pressure off kids to get too vulnerable to fast: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YKusHAP2gPU.html
