Sir, how is the gospel no longer the focus? It seems that their point was to no longer miss the real issues in the narratives that the gospel gives the solution for. God's good character towards mankind despite their sin is important to see in light of what the text reveals in the narratives. What I mean is, how does God exercise justice and righteousness in the situation given in 2 Sam with David's children and their sin? Clear injustices and God does something about it because He is good. Such is hope for those who experience similar injustice and need to look to God who is mighty to save.
