I just picked up a 25 Ton Black Diamond Log Splitter. It is powered by a 6.5 horse Briggs & Stratton Engine. It has a Maximum log capacity of 26". The cycle time is 11.5 seconds. It can split horizontal and vertical. And it came with a log cradle. Overall it seems like a decent log splitter.

I bought the same unit a few weeks ago and have split and stacked over 5 cord already with my grand sons. Iam very glad to own my Black Diamond. One of my favorite tools.

I bought a black diamond 3 years ago. We have split over 100 cord so far with no problems. The only down side is, it doesn't like to start when the temp. get below 20 degrees. Enjoy it.

Hi, Evan! Congratulations on the purchase of your new log splitter. You really needed it. A couple of videos ago your axe was just bouncing off the log.

Just came across this video Evan, I fitted a tow hitch and tow a non-plated trailer, and load straight into the trailer. I can unhitch the trailer and push it to the wood stack. Also use a sack barrow to move large rounds saves the back. Thanks from New Zealand

Great video and thumbs up ! To save yourself a bunch of work, take the splitter into the woods and cut, split and throw it into the tractor bucket or trailer then take it to the stacking area. That way all the garbage stays in the woods. Looks like a great addition to the homestead !

I have the exact same splitter I use it mostly in horizontal mode Get a piece of 2x4or 2x6 to set out when using in vertical e mode so you don’t have to hold rounds up till wedge hits and starts to split

Great buy!!! It will save you so much time and hard work too! We rented one this year and it was fun to use. We split a lot of wood in 4 hrs, I just moved the truck when the piles got in the way too! Took me 2 days to get it all moved and stacked!!! Well worth the $90 rental. I bought a 10 ton hand powered splitter for $100(Harbor Freight) and it does cedar kindling pretty well, but I cant split oak with it. I would put your yard trailer by the splitter and put the wood on it as you split! I dislike double handling!! LOL

For elm, wait till it’s frozen to split then it won’t be near as stringy and will split way easier. I split mine by hand this way and it’s a game changer.

I always found the best way to split Elm is to leave it bucked in blocks for a year, then split it and then season it for the summer before burning that winter. Always worked for me.

Nice rig, I would suggest you get a wheel barrel and put it next to you so you don't have to pick things up twice. Additionally, I know this was a test but I wouldn't split on your nice driveway in the future. Pick an area off the road close to where you plan to stack it. Another great video!

I added a tongue jack to mine to make it free standing. I learned to run mine vertically only. I gathered multiple rounds around the splitter, sat on one and wheeled the others into the splitter in turn. It'll help save your shoulders, back, hips and knees. Never lift if you can do otherwise!
@bobgrier3103
@bobgrier3103 5 лет назад
You might also try this: don't tear logs in half once split then individually re-split each half; spin them 90* and spit them again. It saves work and you get 4 pcs with less effort. And, I kept a bottle of motor oil around, one with a pour spout with a very narrow opening, to lube the slide the splitter blade runs on to keep it operating smoothly. Just a very light coating periodically helps. It will collect grime so a rag to clean it before adding more oil is useful, too. Enjoying the vids, esp thosea round construction like the fence, barn, etc. Looking forward to more.
@bobgrier3103
@bobgrier3103 5 лет назад
I forgot to add this. When splitting stringy material, run the splitter all the way down. Tearing them apart like you were doing is hard on the arms and shoulders. You have a hydraulic splitter to take the load off your body, let it do what it's supposed to do. When in your 70's like I am, you'll be glad you did.

Pretty much all of them are. Always run the carb out of fuel when you're done. When your ready to use again. Full choke hafe throttle. After fire up turn to hafe choke and let run about 15 to 20 seconds than no choke and your good to go!

Had to add hydro oil to mine after local farm and fleet "filled it". They fill the tank but I think the lines are empty and fill up when started.
@dennisd.74
@dennisd.74 4 года назад
Lines were probably empty, or probably air locked. Run control back and forth before splitting, then shut off and check oil a few times. Top off as needed. Goes for a brand new engine as well or after an oil change. check and double check. And stay away from ethanol fuels! Bad for small engines and 2 cycle engines. Draws moisture from the air. Small engine mechanics love your business, when you use ethanol fuels. Use premium with NO ethanol!

You are splitting the wood into small pieces. Is it not quite dry? I usually split into larger pieces last longer in the stove. Very impressive splitter, good buy, sure easier on the back
@CountryViewAcres
@CountryViewAcres 5 лет назад
I found this year, that I didn't have enough smaller pieces when starting a fire. So I am trying to have a better mix of sizes. This winter had a long mild period, where we would let the fire burn out, then restart each day. So lots of kindling and smaller logs were helpful.

Always enjoy your projects. Do you have a small trailer for the ATV? Sure would be convenient to throw that split wood into it & drag it where you need it. The night you were dragging the generator through the soft mud I was cringing, thinking how easily I could have handled that job with my 4 wheeler & lawn trailer.

I don't own a 4 wheeler, I borrow my father in laws in the summer. Hopefully in the future we will purchase a 4 wheeler or side by side. I also have been thinking about modifying my rear pallet forks on the tractor, and build a 3 sided box to haul firewood or tools. That would carry the generator around.

The biggest problem with all of these splitters is the cheap tire and axle assembly. They should ideally have 15 inch tires and heavier axles. At least 12 inch minimum tire and wheel. Also having the tire right in the work area really sucks.

Black diamond is the worst log splitter I have ever seen! I have a 30 ton black diamond that leaks everywhere, motor shakes like crazy and the motor will lock up from hydraulic pressure. The control valve will stick and not pop in neutral and kill the motor as well. Save your money and purchase a different brand.
