The Bessy dog hole clams with the TSO dogs are a great idea. All above the table usage. I'm a poor wood worker. I use a Kreg auto adjust clamp, with a Milescraft screw on baselock to do the same thing. The advantage is I can use this clamp system with my MFT, my Drill press ( Drilled 20mm dog hole in it), and with my DeWalt folding work stations (3/4" or 19mm) as well.
It doesn’t take a psychopath to need both metric and imperial measurements. Just go north. Here in Canada it’s not unusual to find plywood sold as 4 feet X 8 feet by 19 mm. Living next to the U.S. means wrestling with both. I won’t even go into recipes that mix Fahrenheit, Celsius, milliliters, cups, ounces, and grams. But we love you anyway.
We were supposed to go to metric when I was in elementary school. Never happened. But we keep toying with it. I wish they’d just rip off the bandage and go full metric.
I bought one of those Bormax forstner bits recently because I had to power through some end grain maple, and they are everything everyone raves about. 5 seconds into the cut and I wanted a whole set. They melt through wood.
Thanks SO MUCH, Jason. Would you possibly consider testing out the stapler from Ryobi? I'd like to know how it does. Their battery operated brad nailer has been an EPIC option for me for years. But, before moving forward with the stapler, i'd love to know what my fellow Army Veteran, brother thinks of it, as you have FAR more experience with woodworking than I. What do you say, Drill Sergeant?! ;-)
@@bentswoodworkingFair enough... I'll keep researching and searching reviews (I don't have a compressor in my apartment). Thank you for any consideration on the possibility.
$900 is a whopping factor. Is it worth $900 to have it already come ready made, to some, maybe. But i think the plans, cost of materials etc, you would be lucky to hit $70?
That snap together TSO tray is the same thing as the dice trays you can grab at your local hobby store, probably for cheaper, in the event that you don't feel like ordering online or want to shop local.
Great video, as always 👍. I love seeing the latest gadgetry that makes things easier, faster, better, even I can’t afford them right now. Let the Haters Hate. Lol I can confirm that the Bessey parallel clamp extenders do work with other brands. I have a bunch of Bremen parallel clamps from Harbor Freight and they fit just fine with Bessey Extenders. As the saying goes. You get what you pay for. One of my clamps already stripped in one spot. Might have Over Cranked it? Don’t know if Bessey's ever strip out? Never owned them. I’m newer to woodworking so they haven't had a ton of use yet. They do come with a lifetime warranty. I think HF does that just to get you back in the store to buy more stuff. I'll be eligible to retire in September 2024 😂 37 Years of Commercial Flooring installation…. I'm currently building a Workshop in my 22x25 garage. Been working day & night on it for over a year. Wifey startin to get a little ehem… you know… So I promised we would finally go on a nice Vacation for our 30th Anniversary coming soon. That got her Happy Again… Time to buy and build more stuff in the garage. lol Starting from just one old chop saw, and now going Full Blown Work Shop. It takes a hell of alot of time and $$ I try to stretch my dollar on some items, when I can. Sometimes you win. Sometimes you lose. I don't cheap out on everything though. Thanks to learning from you and and too many others to name. I did buy a Sawstop 3hp Harvey G-700 Dust Collection System Harvey Alpha Band Saw I Did buy my full size drill press from Harbor Freight though... lol... Works Great! Also got (Nordfab like) Air Ducting from THE BLAST GATE COMPANY in Warren Michigan for anyone looking into Metal Snap together Ducting. They are pretty much the same as NordFab for a Way Better Price. I read their parts fit together with Nordfab if that says anything? I wish I had the time to video and edit everything I have done. A drastic change. It’s finally all coming together. For those who think Content Creators have it easy… If I were to have taken the time to record and edit and post everything I have done in my shop. I’d probably be a year behind schedule…lol Keep up the Great Work!
Another great video with honest dialogue on tools. Even though it was an ad, mental health is no joke. I had several injuries working as a firefighter that ended my career. My wife and family stood with me as I dealt with the demons of feeling broken, a failure and not a man any longer. Lost. Found a therapist that helped me. There is nothing wrong with getting help!
Please name ALL the tools that you introduce. You leave name brand and model number and price. so… Instead of being a good instructional video, it ends up being just another man, using space on youtube to man-splain himself . As a fellow veteran, its sad to see the gonad macho mentality dominate the air in the video. Argh!!!! Nomenclature man, nomenclature!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for sharing some great options here. I do really wish we could all just decide to ignore people who complain about professionals using professional tools in woodworking. I don't see this as much in other hobbies that are also professions on RU-vid and I'm so tired of the fact that creators have to apologize every time they bring out a domino or other pro tool. Guess what people we all know you can do things with cheaper tools but pros don't have to if they don't want to. Their time is literally money.
Thank you for your service to our country, Mr. Bent. And thank you for the service you now provide in Bent's Woodworking. My own retirement (one and a half years) has been richer, more fun because of your presentations.
Hey Brother! USAF retiree/woodworker here. Thanks for your service! I have that same DeWalt router and picked up a plunge base for it and it’s even better. I really appreciate your content. Keep it up!
I am not a woodworker but I love to watch craftsperson show their skills. I am retired from professional management and my favorite activity was training and teaching young people in my field. You do a good job. I will subscribe to your channel. BTW, thank you for your honorable service to our nation.
Can that suction tool work on plasterboard (drywall) sheets, or are they too porous? I sometimes grab the dense pink fire boards and they are NOT light … would be amazing
And the Festool counter sink bits and hinge bits are amazing! Tell Sedge to get the CE-Sort installer set stateside. Not the cheap little blue case from last year either. 576804 (don’t ask what I paid to get it here…) 😂😂
Really enjoyable video Jason. Thank you for putting it together. As mentioned by another commenter, I too liked the relaxed style on this one. Thanks again. 👍🏻
I have never understood why people get so triggered over tools, and particularly Festool. High quality tools are expensive, but they do a specific job....which is to earn money for the user.
Holy S**T those Festool sanding blocks are stupid expensive. Not their idea either cause they are copies of ones just like them that have been on the market since at least 1990 when I first started using them. Yes...1990 The Festool addiction is super strong for anyone who unasses $90 for these cause you can buy them all day long for $5-10 bucks a piece.
Paulk really did come up with a better design when he made his bench with a full size shelf under it. It does make it possible to store tools under the surface, and catch the fall through. The rest of the bench is specific to how he works, but even if you want the festool sized MFT, it may make sense to make the two layer bench.
Great video, glad you liked the Dewalt router, just bought it myself and now happy ididn't go cheap first as was reluctant I'd spent too much. Will prob try out a few of your other things too. keep informing us.
...as someone who accidentally sent a corded Makita trim router roueter bit (1.25" flush cut) into her hand (hit a knot and it was snatched from my hand), trust me, you want a router that stops instantly.
okay, so my next project is going to shelving that is 6 ft. long by 200mm wide that has a front lip that's 1 inch thick tapering down to the final 15mm thickness, what do you think? =)
Great video. Some of this stuff I have, some I’ve been debating getting and this will move me forward, and others I was completely unaware of. I love your videos, always easy to follow and practical. I’m building my first set of wall-to-wall cabinets and bookcases and have been looking at your base leveling, drawer slide, and cabinet build videos nearly daily. Thanks so much.
That grabo seems to be a missed opportunity. It could be formatted so that it could be easily gripped in a vise to hold things you need to work on. I use vac chucks to hold guitar parts, but this could work out of the box for people who bought it for other things if they had a way to hold it.
I hear it in the tone of your voice that automations excite you. Check out Home assistant and the possibilities. You might never go back to turning something on or off with your finger
I love my airless sprayer, but hate the fact that the damn hose uses a half gallon of paint just to reach the gun. I’ll be going to sherwin Williams this afternoon.
I would be curious on a direct comparison between the quick shot and a 5 stage hvlp (Fuji q5). I just got started with the q5 and with the 3m pps system, clean up is a breeze. Still a novice and soon plan to try SW Gallery.
I love my Lamello. It's made so many things much easier. I use the clamex connectors on face frames without glue. If I want to change the entire look of cabinets I can put a new face frame and doors on, bam, remodeled!
I've been using the Grabo's for a couple of years and they are very much worth the money. I'm a one person shop and they have made my life so much easier when moving sheets of plywood to my saw. However, the Rockler Material Mate Panel Cart is the second part to moving sheet goods. Use the Grabo to get the plywood to the Material Mate, then flip the MM up to slide the plywood onto the table saw. I've used the Grabo's to move stone around too when I've made walkways. Having two is even better. Great video, as usual!
Once again outstanding video. But it makes me wonder… And a question I’ve been meaning to ask you for a while… Why no Felder FAT table? it seems like it would be really worth it in your shop. I know for me that’s one tool I definitely cannot do without now
I will be getting one in the near future. I actually plan to use it as an outfeed table for my slider primarily. But, be able to use it on other things as well.
Jason, honest question. When it comes to the the paint finish quality, how goes it compare to an HVLP. More specifically, can you see visible orange peel texture? I’m referring to the Greco quick shot of course. Thank you for your time.
Never seen your channel before but will be watching more. Love your description of things, way of valuing things, and good god your workshop is incredible looking
@@beowulf_of_wall_st I don’t disagree. I wasn’t speaking out of envy at all. Just as a newbie, that first one takes forever. But then the snowball gets rolling. I was actually complimenting you on your list actually.
The Milwaukee 2749 cordless narrow staple gun work amazing never give me any trouble, unless you want much lighter weight, but I don’t have space for a compressor ☹️
Glad you mentioned the Dewalt Cordless router. I’ve been thinking about getting a cordless. I have several routers. But I generally have one router doing one task…. And then I have to keep replacing the bit to do another. And back and forth with my trim router. And….adjustment on my colt is crazy. I already have some Dewalt drills and batteries. So i wouldn’t need to get different batteries. I got the reamer tool another time you suggested it. I don’t use it often. But SOOO glad I have it. It was worth it. Lots of good stuff. I’m still really hoping that one day I’ll be able to get that sprayer.
I just used your link and got the Dewalt cordless router. I recently bought the Festool OF 1400. So I’m set on corded routers. LOVE IT!!! Did you see that TSO is having a sale through tomorrow? Looking at some of the items you listed now.
First, thank you for your service. Appreciate the sacrifice. WRT the air quality system. Would it need to be placed closer to the area where there’s a greater concentration of debris? I would think the concentration decreases significantly the further away it is from the source, maybe even exponentially.
You got yourselve a new subscriber sir. I am so pleased that I get to see a sponsor for better mental health on a channel directed to men. I sincerely hope that it might help someone to seek support to get a happier life. Thank you !
for a straightedge I went to Home depot and bought a 9' piece of square tube stock. got it home and cut it into 2', 3', and a 4' pieces. those have been serving me well.
Great video. I’ll take the opportunity though to just say: if Festool doesn’t come out with a cordless router soon, it’ll be the biggest travesty in the tool world. Surely they can make one that has all the brilliance of typical Festool plus the great features that you mentioned about the Dewalt router.
I like the router, but also hate it :) The adjustment is so inferior to my bosch trim router.. didn’t come with a box and fence. But it does work nicely and use it a lot
Graco really dropped the ball on the price for their spray gun. As a hobbyist, I would have done $500 for the system.. The high 800 maybe. But right now it's $1,500. That is flat out. Ridiculous
100% agree on the DeWalt vs the Makita trim routers. I bought the Makita before DeWalt released their version. I bought the DeWalt once I saw it had an adjustment wheel like my old Porter-Cable 690 which I always liked.
Bought the parf mark ll guide system. Followed it to the letter, and did a 5×10 work table. From one end of the table to the other the holes were out of square by a quarter inch. Massive amount of time doing this and it was worthless ... lol. I like their dogs and such, but that was my first experience with UJK products
I went over to Fagma. Could you please provide the number of the set of Brad point & Forstner bits. The bits are assigned numbers for the various styles. These folks are producing some serious bits. I sure do appreciate your help. I am going to pick up the exact sets you have. Sans the BIG set. WHEW!! Thank You!
You can make a very accurate test bar out of a piece of plywood and 3 screws. More than accurate enough for setting up tools. the means of setting it can be to mirror the surface of a known flat one like a jointer table, or a granite reference surface. However there is a way to make it accurate if you do not have a reference surface, and it is described in issue 142 of FWW, if you have a subscription. (I just remember reading it back then). Very useful for setup, or when buying machine tools of unknown quality (which is most of them at this point).
For the lazer measurer, the new Bosch green laser is the best. The glm 50 blaze is great but it measures everything to the 32nd but only has 1/16 accuracy, The new green laser one you can set the reading to go no further down than a 16th. It's a pain to be converting 17/32 in your head while you are measuring a job. Green laser levels by Huepar are 1/2 the cost of the Bosch one you showed.
