I don't remember the disco hits here, but some others remind me how old I am!. Gerry Rafferty and JD Souther were primarily 'behind the scene guys' who happened to have good voices. Gerry was a songwriter/session guy/ producer who was part of Steelers Wheel, but soloed the Baker Street album after the band fell apart. JD Souther was always a songwriter with a good voice, did a lot of back-up vocals and guitar session work before a demo of 'You're Only Lonely' was discovered and fully produced, and also covered by other singers.

Thank you for this upload. good to see some 70s two hitters here. Many good songs. A decade I am starting to acquaint myself with musically thanks to channels like this. A Taste of Honey had two great singles and in contrast to each other. Blue Swede, the lead singer Bjorn Skifs has a successful career in Sweden and went to Eurovision twice. Eruption with two fantastic disco classics. Golden Earring both songs classics to us Non-Dutch people. 'My Sharona' is a very popular song here and timeless. Maxine Nightingale - two great singles. A Great contrast of dance classic and ballad. I had no idea 'Come and Get Your Love' was sang by Redbone. Great song. The song has been used in a UK commercial recently. Silver Convention - 'Fly Robin Fly' still sounds fresh now. They represented Germany in Eurovision in 1977 and came 8th.

Here's an interesting one that could easily be overlooked. Jim Henson had two hits in the 1970's under two different names. They were "Rubber Duckie" (#16, 1970; as by Ernie) and "Rainbow Connection" (#25, 1979; as by Kermit the Frog). Of course, under that scenario, he could actually be considered a one-hit wonder twice.

Looking Glass should be mentioned in this video. The group is especially noteworthy in that one of their two hits, the 1972 single "Brandy (You're a Fine Girl)" got to #1 and still gets regular airplay. Their other hit is "Jimmy Loves Mary-Anne," which peaked at #33 in 1973.

By the way, Bobby Sherman did a cover version of "Our Last Song Together" that missed The Hot-100, but was a minor AC top-40 single, reaching #34 in 1975. It was his 2nd single on the Janus label. And just to be clear, you are talking about Bo Donaldson & The Heywoods, but you made the comment on my Looking Glass post.

Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods had two hits: "Billy Don't Be a Hero" and "Who Do You Think You Are?" Both were in the mid-1970's.

Fun facts - the German disco group - Silver Convention - recorded 'Get Up and Boogie' and 'Fly, Robin, Fly' - both songs made it to #1 on one or more charts and both were written by Sylvester Levay and Stephan Prager - and both are tied for the fewest words for any chart topping single with both songs containing 6 words.

@@laustcawz2089 There's that - yes - but 'The Hustle' was always considered an instrumental. Van McCoy produced it and he called the session musicians he chose for the recording 'The Soul City Symphony'. In fact - the song won the Grammy in 1975 for Best Pop Instrumental Performance.

I miss the privacy, even in cities, the 1970's had. It's the way the US Constitution says we're supposed to be living You'll get lawyers that will say, there's no such thing as privacy in the constitution. the US Constitution,Structures, the government and the government gave states rights to privacy to the citizens, before they added, since the onslot of smartphones and cameras, the right to reasonable expectations of privacy in bathroom and bedrooms. Since smartphones, privacy of phones, also with that ( the privacy laws) So, how is that, to those lawyers who say that, that the US Constitution gives privacy as right. If it's what structures the government, which it does. Then it's the Constitution which gives us the Rights of Privacy. The 70's we're corrupt, but it's more so corrupt now. Ex: What Trump's been getting away with since the 1990's. Hard to unseat a President but, he really screws up a lot, often openly, including since his presidency.

REDBONE had at least 10 major hits in Europe like "Maggie", " Wovoka" and the political statement " We were all wounded at Wounded knee" .As a native American Group and politically active , they got boycottet by almost all USA Radio Stations. SAILOR had at least 5 more hits in Europe. GOLDEN EARRING(S) existed in the same formation during almost 60 (!) Years, and had many more hits in Europe. A major USA hit also was:" When the lady smiles" It suffered from a boycot by many USA Radio Stations because of the video of the song, in which a Katholic Nun gets raped in a train. GARY RAFFERTY had hits with " STEALERS WHEEL" and the " HUMBLE BUMS" but is most famous for his solo million seller "Baker Street:

Some of them are Jigsaw, Fancy, Dramatics, Jay Ferguson, Jethro Tull, Gary Glitter, Henry Gross, Murray Head, Mark Lindsey, Marshall Tucker, Addrissi Brothers, George Baker Selection, Delaney & Bonnie, Disco Tex, Chuck Mangione.

Finally. An actual person that does the research. While I will say, it looks like based on your artists, these are mostly two-hit wonders in the USA. Because in the UK, many of these acts like Gary Glitter and Jethro Tull were popular in their own countries and had more than two hits. If SRG were to include those, he would need to place a description stating so. The same would apply for the George Baker Selection who had plenty of hits in the Netherlands. To add to your list, I would mention Looking Glass and Carl Carlton. At the same time, with acts like Henry Gross, while he does constitute a two-hit wonder in the States, his other hit only was regionally popular in the states, which is why it’s understandable why he would place it in the one-hit wonders list. So again, it’s debatable but reasonable. Also, for acts like Murray Head, their main hits were from 1969 and 1984, so there’s the issue of how SRG would calculate it in which decade, so that’s understandable why he would place it in the one-hit wonders list. While Murray Head isn’t, I think in charting rules an act has to wait 5-10 years after their first hit single in order to be counted as a two hit wonder otherwise it would be assumed they fell off or retired. While it’s weird, it’s possibly a reason why Murray Head is debatable in both categories. Overall, this is really good. Hope SRG sees this and maybe might update it!

Godzilla never charted on Billboard or on any of the rock charts from Billboard, despite the fact that it is one of their most well-known signature songs

@@mrvlsmrv BOC is known from the 70s to early 80s. At the same time, SRG normally calculates that if an act has not had any hit in around 5-10 years then they are labeled a one hit wonder or retired for the moment. You can ask him how he calculates this

Just like the 80s list, I've never heard of a few of these, but I certainly knew and liked several of them. Growing up in the 70s, some of these songs are hard to separate from my childhood memories and nostalgia. The Hues Corporation's Rock the Boat actually featured in a dream I used to have as a kid. And Terry Jacks' Seasons in the Sun really tore at my pre-adolescent emotions. It seemed like such a sad song. I mistakenly thought that Jacks himself was dying and had been able to make the recording of the song before he passed away.

Each of the members of Silver Convention had solo songs released during their time with Silver Convention. Penny McLean had a fairly big hit with “Lady Bump”, and the other two singers (Ramona Wulf and Linda G Thompson) had moderate success as well.

When I think of two hit wonders, I think of Carl Carlton. Everlasting Love hit #6 in the US in 1972 and Bad Mama Jama hit 22 (#2 on the R&B charts) in 1981. It’s pretty unusual to have two hits that far apart, so maybe that’s why he was forgotten.

Does Jigsaw count? The only songs here in the U.S. I ever heard on the Top 40 radio were "Sky High" and "Love Fire". If rock music was booze, these songs would be sweet & fruity umbrella drinks. Perfect Seventies artifacts!

Actually, The Knack were a three-hit wonder. They also had a minor hit called "Baby Talks Dirty." So was Rupert Holmes. He had a third hit, "Answering Machine."

I guess it depends on the country for where the charts are located. I'm from Canada, which is where Dan Hill is from also. He had quite a few songs on the Canadian charts. Where as, some of the other acts.. I've never heard their second hit.

I remember them under the name the "Moonrakers" from 1965 when I lived in Denver. The Moonrakers was a rock band that broke up and was the base of Sugarloaf in 1969. I always liked the Moonrakers because they were more old rock and roll whereas Sugarloaf came into being at a time when music was in transition.

The Knack had a 3rd top 40 hit in the USA. "Baby Talks Dirty" got up to #38 and spent two weeks on the chart in March 1980.

Blue Oyster Cult was not a two hit wonder band. If anything, they are one of the most overlooked and underrated hard rock bands of all time. They're still around making great music

There’s a good reason they’re “overlooked.” They had a couple of great songs BUT THEY DIDN’T SELL THAT MANY RECORDS. I saw them live at “Concert By the Sea” in ‘72, in VA. It was nowhere near the sea- it was on a vacant airfield in Va Beach! Blue Oyster Cult and Procol Harem topped the bill- after that, it gets kinda fuzzy as to what other performers played (I’ve a stack of over 100 ticket stubs from over the years well into this century- when I only see a few acts a year). I met my friend Pete there- walking amongst the blankets in front of the stage in a sea of people, yelling, “Matchhead THC- 5 Bucks a Snort!” and that was some righteous sh*t… But I DO recall POOR JOHN SEBASTIAN! Who TF thought to put him on the same bill? People started throwing stuff at him when he opened with his Lovin’ Spoonful song, “Do You Believe In Magic?” Dude had to SHUT DOWN and FLY! For God’s Sake, the only thing WORSE he could’ve sung was the (new at the time) Theme Song from “Welcome Back, Kotter,” which he also wrote and performed for the TV show! Betcha he never came back to Va, LOL… Those were the days, of radio music anyway 🎼🎸🎤

"If You Go Away" was also a hit for Neil Diamond. This is the English language adaptation of the French "Ne Me Quitte Pas" recorded by Jaques Brei and Edith Piaf, et al. The melodic line is actually a passage from a work by Franz Liszt.
