Im American and dont dislike the Chinese at all. The negative changes we have in our country can be placed squarely on our crooked politicians. We shouldnt be quick to allow them to place that blame on other countries. Lets not let them off the hook for the problems they've caused.

Thanks too, most importantly, for offering a platform for objective and balanced discussion on China. We need more rational discussion on a China that's shows the good and bad. I'm thankful I had the opportunity to share my thoughts on your show.

If I were a Chinese citizen, I wouldn’t bother vacationing abroad in the West. I would stick to domestic tourism. China is diverse and safer. There’s too much anti-China bashing in the West. Homelessness, racism, drug use and violence is the norm here. I’m moving to SE Asia when I retire in a few years. I’ve been to Asia many times. Loved it there.

I think part of the reason there are fewer Chinese tourists is that a lot of Chinese feel the hostility of countries like the U.S., Japan, Korea, EU nations etc. and would hesitate to go there. I have friends that cancel trips because of this reason.

We just got our visa to China approved knowing that how strict it was to fill up most things that you planned to do in China. I believe some people pretend to be tourist but doing something for western media as a free lancer reporting negative stories in places like Xinjiang. I applied for a 30-day visa but was surprised to be offered a 60-day stay visa and this shows that the gov there welcomes all bona-fide visitors to China.

I have been there and I totally agree with all that your guest has said. Despite the sinister efforts of the US to destabilize the Chinese economy, China will continue to be a success.

It is good for China to keep the socialist system going. Unlike Hongkong, which has an increased inequality, ridiculous high property prices, and high cost of living. Wiser to bring more people into middle class than have a smaller percentage of rich and many low income. Don't want to be like the current American situation.

I have been in China since the mid of May. I 100% agree with you two on the current Chinese economy and living standard. I am staying in a 3rd tier city (about 3.5 million people). The locals are very satisfied in their lives and have positive views on their leaders and the CCP. By the way, I feel super safe here compared to where I live in the States. I totally agree with Shaun that the way the US treating China is wrong. It is destroying globalization, diminishing people's confidence in green bucks. Thus, it triggers dedollarization. The US government is making its own bed. It was a great interview and hats off to both of you! Man, I just love Chinese cuisine, the best in the world 😊

Shaun is really speaking the truth about China. I am really surprised and impressed that I can tell Shaun has 100% no prejudices which is really good for me to see that. I've seen lots of foreigners that coming to china making vlogs nowadays, but most of them just tryna make some money out of it, they ain't really speak something that are really insightful points with 100% honesty, all they tryna say is how great it is to living in chian and how much he loves China, all I know is that he's making bank with that fake patriotism, and he knows chinese people loves to hear that shit, so for this meeting I really appreciated that how precious is this meeting about, straight to the point, real talk right there, good sides and bad sides all comes to the table. However China still has a long way to go and there's still a lot of areas and policies that need to be enhanced and adjusted in the future. Maybe it's gonna take 5-10 years or even longer but it's all just a matter of time. All I can tell is China and the Chinese new generation is ready to embrace the world with peace, everything is just gonna be better, and that's fasho. But I do agree that chinese people and chinese government really need to learn and being open about criticizes, but what I really believes is that as long as you really speaking the truth and really trying to improve the society and policy system, without deliberate fabrication of false news and rumors, I think chinese people and chinese government are willing to accept and learn from it with humble manner.

Great interview. Hope it can reach out to more Americans. I remember back to 2010. I took some of my American colleagues to visit SZ. They were so worried about the red guard army. The communist government etc. till they landed in China. They were so shocking to see what they see ! It was a huge turn around for them. We all know people are all good all over the world. US. Iraq. China. Russia Cubans etc. especially last few years that American are influenced by the media due to those politicians to have a very negative view about China. Hope this will get better soon. Have returned to China after a 5 year absence and it is GREAT to be back, having previously lived in China for fifteen years! I have noticed a lot fewer foreigners here in Beijing and the level of economic activity is greatly reduced with so many businesses and shops I knew now shuttered. The locals though are as friendly and welcoming as ever. This vlog confirmed my observations and it is great to watch honest unbiased commentary on China. Great job!

American politicians, regardless of party affiliation, understand that being anti-China helps their careers, so they are more than willing to bash China.

Just been on the beach in Thailand. It seemed to me that the number of Chinese tourists was gaining serious momentum. I sensed that at least 60% of people at the hotel front desk were Chinese guests.

The US Foriegn Policy is designed by the military complex in the USA.

Great guest. China has put emphasis on 2nd 3rd 4th tier cities and citizens as part of poverty alleviation and common property.

Its asia. Criticism is okay when it's done respectively. But who are people to criticize that don't live there or don't understand China. The West has to learn how to not criticize and respect Asian values and culture.

The US doesn’t care that her disruptive behaviour is going to cause the next recession and hardship for the whole world, and Americans as well.

This is one of your best segments yet. Sometimes you can't just look at things from the surface level, as it can be skewered by pro or anti China propaganda, individual emotions, and genuine misinterpretation of observations, sometimes you have to look at things from a hawk's eye view.

CCP is doing a good job, and yes there are hiccups, but overall it is moving to the right direction. Not perfect, but going to the right direction. At least it's much better than US and UK if u ask me.

To improve relationships with China the US needs to do the following: - Respect China or any other nation. Don’t impose the American system of government, American values & beliefs etc on another nation. - Lift all sanctions against China. - Stop trying to contain China’s peaceful rise. - Remove all the warships, submarines etc from the South China Sea, under the pretext or bullshit about “freedom of navigation”. China has used these waters to trade with the world, for centuries. Why would China not allow freedom of navigation?? - Stop publishing fake news, misinformation etc against China. Work with China for shared prosperity & peace.

Truth is held in Cyrus Janssen's hand, respectful with factfulness

On an individual level, it is true that the Chinese people are largely friendly, genuine and hospitable people if you are not rude to them. But if you try to humiliate, insult or accuse them unjustifiably, then the Chinese will not hold back too as the Chinese are hardworking people who take themselves and people around them seriously. To the Western nations, the Chinese are uncouth or rude when they talk loudly or appear overbearing at times but they are actually quite harmless and harbour no ill intentions. It is just their emphasis of expression in treating everyone as fellow beings rather than as an individual which is encapsulated in the Chinese motto "四海之内皆兄弟也" aka " We are all brothers from different continents"。This is where the values or perception differ greatly between the Western nations and China. The Western nations are seeing the Chinese through tinted glasses, feel irrationally upset and became critical. No doubt there are black sheeps since China is such a huge country composed of a diverse and highly stratified population. On the geo-political differences hurting the economy, I actually feel that the biggest hurdle to bring back the foreign investments in China is the inching towards a socialist economy by the CCP with its common prosperity manifesto. The foreign capitalists are naturally worried of the challenges with operating under such a system which goes against their profit maximisation principle. The financial theory on risk rewards does not quite add up and hence the reluctance to return to China.

I think Cyrus Jenssen and Shaun Rein are two awesome guys. I always like hearing what they have to say. And it is very clear that they both love the US and China. And I hope they continue to keep up the good work of portraying the good side of China to the US. As a Chinese American, I have been following the development of the Chinese economy for the last 40 years. And this is because I always wanted the land of my parents to become a modern country like those in the West. And I have come to the conclusion that the tensions between China and the US, in the long run, will benefit China (provided that a military conflict does not occur or that an all out trade war does not occur). And to a certain degree, the tensions are even necessary for China’s development. Case in point is the latest assault on China’s semiconductor industry. It is better that it occurs now than later on when China has further developed other industries like the artificial intelligence. This forces buyers within China to buy semiconductors from other Chinese companies. Sure, the quality (and speed) won’t be as good as buying from foreign manufacturers. But at least the Chinese market will slowly lose the foreign option and direct purchases to Chinese entities. It will be very painful for the Chinese, but in the long run, it will be good for them. Chinese semiconductor manufacturers won’t develop to its potential without buyers. Industrial policies are never popular, not only are they not liked by a country’s trading partners, it is also not very popular within the country that is practicing the industrial policies. Trade tensions with the US removes the US option as a source and forces Chinese manufactures to buy semiconductors from other Chinese manufactures all at the same time putting the blame on the US. This reality will play out again in other industries. For example, as China continues to develop its jet engine for commercial airplanes, there will come a point when the Chinese public will have to accept a Chinese built jet engine. The US will eventually deny China the sales of American made jet engines. The Chinese public may be reluctant to fly on an airplane with Chinese engines on it. However, if the US denies the sales of jet engines to Chinese airplane manufacturers, then there won’t be any choice except to use Chinese jet engines. And again it will be blamed on the US. But without buyers, Chinese jet engine manufactures won’t be able to reach its full potential. The CCP’s long-term goal is to become independent of Western technology. But China will have to practice industrial policies for a while longer. And resistance to it from within China can be significantly tempered by tensions with the US. I personally don’t believe that the US is trying to contain China. But instead, to slow China down, so that the US can work on its own security concerns. Like moving some semiconductor manufacturing from Taiwan and South Korea to the US.

I'm indonesian, my passport expired like two years ago, still haven't gotten a new one, even though people are already start traveling. While my financial situation is not that bad, for some reason, I still don't feel like traveling at all. And yeah, it is a mystery to me why Chinese visa is still hard to get. My brother who is going to visit China for business this saturday, only got his visa after his Chinese business partner guarantee him. Kinda weird why it is hard to get Chinese visa, even for business.

I was duped by Biden and thought he'd be better than what we just went through. In many ways and especially of note is the warmongering he's much worse. Here’s a question I have for both Sean and Cyrus. Because of your connection with China, have either of you been approached by the CIA to work for them. I am always curious as why the CIA is so effective in creating chaos and terror to a foreign country.

Since China's reopen, I waited several months trying to avoid the seven-hour application lodging time in the China visa office as per friends' experience. Went in June, still took me five long hours to lodge the form and three hours waiting time a couple of days later to get the visa. Post covid high volume applications and hard journey to China.

Thank you for the interview. Shaun's on the ground insight is indispensable. Unfortunately, I agree with him that the next few years may be rough and may be even cataclysmic if some individuals are willing to bet the world's future by crossing China's red line. From an economic and survival standpoint for China, I believe a very good foundation is being built with the multiple complimentary resource rich and manufacturing deals that were made with all of the developing nations, including Saudi Arabia and Iran. I am hoping that the economic fruits from the BRI will begin to ripen and enrich all the nations that are participating. I got the sense that the CPC is building up defenses for the worse case scenario, even if one wishes very much for events not to continue to veer in that direction. However, I would rather that the CPC lead China to war than for China to be bullied by the US and its cohorts.
