The title piqued my curiosity, not because I thought you really broke it but because I wondered how you were yanking our chain! You've given that tractor every test and it's passed them all. Good equipment, good operators.
I am buying a T474 with a backhoe on Monday. I was looking at a Branson 3620 and had settled on it at a Branson dealer and decided to visit a TYM dealer that was closer to me and he showed me the 474. More HP (a lot more) and more features (Useful ones at least) for less money. Pretty much the same size tractor. I can't wait to start using it! It looks like a real beast!
There are no more Branson Dealers left. TYM bought Branson out. They are all TYM dealers and you can buy both models at all dealers now. The T474 is a solid modern tractor. I have 330 hours on mine and it is still going strong.
Thank you for this review video. We're picking ours up on Friday and I was a little hesitant because I don't know much about them. We have a little 25HP LS and I really like that tractor. It's done anything I've needed it to on the farm, but my husband is using it more and more for his landscaping business. That has led into situations more often where we needed a bigger one. This review helped me feel better aboout the choice we made.
Enjoy watching your videos. On the spit brakes, they are very useful for maintaining traction. If a wheel starts to slip some light braking to that wheel will cause the other wheel to pull you threw the situation you may be in. I know that todays tractors mostly have differential locks. Just another reason for split brake pedals. Have a Great day!
Thank you for the review. My 474 has a whopping 11.4 hours on it. Took delivery last week and so far have moved about 480 ton of abc and built a road and drive way. Dug a trench and now set up to drill holes for my solar ground mount system. Love your videos, very helpful. Thank you!
We are going solar too! I think the tech has crossed over to it makes sense with new type of batteries. Our plan is, Solar, wind, backup gen, and grid power. I hope we can sell back to the grid.
I am gonna need a tractor for a 32 acre homestead and home build. Moving stone, logs, digging dirt, all that. I’m am between the 474 or the bigger 494. Do you ever wish your tractor was a tad bigger/heavier?
@@abc-ed1nr I do. My 474 is capable but now I want to do more. But for now I’m very happy with it. My homestead would not be were it is today without it.
I have a TYM 494 HST. Great tractor. The one item I did change is the return hydraulic filter location and base. The TYM filters are 65.00 each and the filter base makes the filter hang below the frame ( not to mention the odd thread size and pitch of the filter). Which is not ideal for the backhoe attachment (full frame). So I swapped on a standard Donaldson base that is tucked further up behind the step and rotated 90 degrees (no longer hangs down). The filter is the same micron but 3x the flow rating. The bypass is the same 16lbs. The filter is almost 2x the size but only costs $28.00 locally. Finding the din 2353 l m18.5 fittings for the 10mm steel pipe connectors was a bit challenging though.
Thank you for pointing out the tips on going from L M H range and the 4X4 tip. I bought my TYM 474 3 months ago and while tilling a vegetable garden I was so frustrated shifting from low range to medium range. And while moving trees I cut down with my grapple the 4X4 was also (not nearly as much as the range selector) getting stuck. Great review
Great Info & Video Tony , thanks a lot I only have 44 hrs on my T 474 I have a little hard time getting on my tractor with my knees , & getting on the Backhoe is almost impossible for me, so my wife went on it to do a trench for some wiring & I stood on the tractor to move it when was needed. We are a good team , & she did great!
I have had both of my knees replaced so I have a good understanding of your situation. I am blessed in the fact that my knees are doing much better, and I can move around quite well now. Feel I see a day when it will be harder for me to get on off the tractor and I totally agree that the back who is the difficult part
Oh NO, you BROKED the T474 Tony LOL. GREAT tractor, I'm right behind ya with 230h and I have had zero problems. Thanks for educating on how to shift, I think most problems are operator induced.
This is a great video. I'm going to be in the market for a tractor here in a few months, and videos like yours are helping me feel as though I can make an informed decision. Was looking at the Deere dealership on 641 and almost had a heart attack. TYM is looking better and better every day. By the way, I wear a size 16 shoe and that looks like my flippers would fit comfortably.
First of all I want to thank you for doing such a good job at covering the Tym tractors.I think I'm on round three of watching your videos and I always pick up on something I missed from the previous time I watch them.ill be getting delivery of my new T474 cab model here in about four weeks I got several implements with it,I have had and operated several tractors over the last forty years and I definitely agree with you TYM has outdone themselves with there tractors.i went with the cab model because I do alot of snow removal and this will be my first cab model.Anyways keep the videos coming I enjoy watching and learning from them.
@@scottyb4606 I have no issues with visibility while using my implements.one thing I recommend getting is the hydraulic top link it makes using the box blade so much better as well as the landscape rake and straight blade. The only problem I've found with the tractor is keeping it clean. Also one more thing buy a leaf blower to help blow off the dirt after using it.
Thanks for another great video! I have a T394HST with FEL and backhoe, couldn't be happier with it after 300 hours. My key cover broke off at 30 hours and looks just like yours. My tractor has been worked harder than it should, and continues to be a great performer. Starts good in 0 degree temps when my other tractors barely crank. Aside from the key cover, my only gripe is that mine uses a sight glass to check the level of the Hyd-Trans fluid. I am fine with the sight glass, but it is located where you can't see it while you are filling. My manual says I need 9.2 Gallons of HT fluid. I found out when over filled, the sight glass looks clear as if it is empty so I add more but never find the fluid level in the sight glass. Turns out my tractor needs 7.5 gallons to fill to the proper level on the sight glass, so I wind up draining some and making a mess. Last weekend I pushed over a 4" dia. sapling, the tree broke off about 2' above the ground and tore my hydraulic return line under the chasis, which drained all of my fluid, when repairing the broken line is when I ran into the fluid level discrepancy (again). I remembered having the same problem at the 50 hour maintenance too, but this time I wrote it down and hopefully remember next time. No other complaints though, its a great tractor.
Love my 474 hydro Had a Branson 3015 r shuttle shift that we traded in . It was a great tractor but the 474 is a lot nicer . On a side note bought my 3015 in 2018 dealer gave me moer than i expected and walked away with a new tractor in October 2023 for 12000 . I think it was a deal the 474 new was 10,000 more than what I paid for the Branson.
I have a bad boy and my transmission and 4 wheel drive and diff lock is the same way. I feel like if you don’t understand how things work and you fight it your gonna have a hard time. Great video 👍
Good points Tony, you had us there, when you said you broke your tractor. And, just like you said I've never seen a bucket hydraulic fail. I know they sometimes can. Never did see a bucket fall on someone's head from checking their oil with the loader raised. Must be what all brands are required to warn us, like not eating the packaging peanuts used for packaging, LoL. I wished there was a TYM dealership near me. Awesome tractors.
Ive had my 474 shuttle about a year with 120 hrs on it. And outside of a leaking seal on one cylinder (that tym replaced) I’ve had No problems whatsoever with it. I use mine much the same way you do, sawmill and all, with a great deal of ease and reliability. Im in Pennsylvania so i gotta deal with more hills and it does a great job with that also. Your right. TYM got this one right. I highly recommend it. 👍🏼👍🏼
First off, great review. But I do really hope to see some reviews coming a lot more hours on a TYM. People in the comments acting like 100hrs is an eternity of time on a tractor and are mesmerized how it survived it. lol. I’m use to 4k hrs being a low hour tractor. lol. I guess these new foreign tractors are disposable and people know it. lol.
I thank you for your opinion. I don't believe I tried to say 250 hours was anything special. It's just what I had at the time and it sounded like a reasonable time to do a review. There are numerous people with TYM tractors that have more than 4000 hours. I think your bias or brand loyalty is showing through just a bit.
Information about that tractor or like you said most tractors of that type do share the same basic operations.verygood job getting that information out there.thank you stay safe
My PTO shifter binds like that sometimes on my T25. Anyone who has had an old 4x4 with manual shifters knows to not try to force things in because gears do bind. Just wiggle things around a bit and they'll fall right into place. As for my PTO, it's a 2 part process. First you shift the PTO lever then turn the little actuator to on. When it binds, turn the PTO dial to on then shift. If it grinds, quickly shift back to PTO off, turn the dial back then everything will become unbound and will function fine. These are not $100,000 tractors so don't expect them to do expensive tractor stuff. That being said, anyone who watches Millennial Farmer's RU-vid channel knows that $500,000 tractors have problems too.
@@TonysTractorAdventure I can't say my T25 has been problem free. At 40 hours my power steering hose wore through and dumped all my hydraulic fluid out on the ground. The dealer came and got it, quickly repaired it and said the factory routed the hose in the wrong place. You may want see where yours is routed on your T25 the next time you are under there.
OK....90 seconds in and I'm subscribed...I'd totally play the broken $3 rubber key cover similarly to how you did. I keep looking for folks who have issues with TYM units, as they're often $10k to $15k less than a green (gold plated) tractor with similar specs...I'm still looking for a problem that's big enough to be work the $15k.
The algorithm just suggested your channel. Thanks for getting it right once there algorithm. I'll see what's up here and maybe subscribe. I have two very small tractors. I'm old and grumpy enough to be shopping for something in the air conditioned T474 range. Maybe bigger? I got a cabbed mini excavator and it spoiled me just as rotten rotten as my house dog.
The 474 is a very nice looking tractor. It looks like it is built to do serious work. I went a little smaller because i don't have much land. I got the TYM 2515H. It is an absolute beast for the money i paid for it. I was either going with Massey Ferguson or Kubota. Then i visited the TYM dealership and never looked at another tractor.
I enjoyed this review. I have the RK55 that is very similar to the 474. I dont work mine nearly as hard as you do so based on your 474 review, my 55 should serve me well.
Excellent review of your tractor. When I was shopping I was very impressed with the TYM line, it became my first choice. Then the dealer came into play. No TYM for me. I wish there was another dealer anywhere in the area.
@@TonysTractorAdventure that is my plan. I was looking in the 30 hp range, but for just a little more you get a mechanical engine on a chassis that has all the new features you would want. Hopefully it will be my last tractor. My next upgrade will be more lights which look like an easy job to wire in.
I have a Massey Ferguson tractor and I have trouble getting it in high and low sometimes and 4wd usually goes in easy bit it’s pretty hard to get out of
In work tony we have a 50hp tym now im irish so things mite not be the same but as a tractor the pto broke and the back end leaks more than the titanic and the perkins engine would not be great the set up inside is like your basic tractor from the 70s its been traded in nxt year it has over 4000 hours on it
Our family has a John Deere 5055E with 2500 hours on it and the rear end failed. It, also leaks everywhere. In John Deere's defense, they abused the tar out of it. I don't want to sweep your problems under the rug, but I know someone that owns every brand which has had failure. I can only tell you my experience. As a retired Army Maintenance Officer, I operate like this. If it leaks, fix it now. It will only be worse later or cause something worse.
Great video - you are informative and easy to listen to. I have been watching tractor reviews for a month solid trying to make a purchase decision. This tractor is almost perfect except for the surprisingly low PTO hp. The hyd. pumps are 11.5 gpm which is low but I figure with 2 pumps and split duty that is probably okay. I'm about sold but for my 7ft flail mower. It requires ( suggested) 35hp PTO. What is your experience. That looked like a pretty big tiller you had on it. Thank you
I don't know why TYM rates the PTO HP so low. In reality it about 35-40 hp at the PTO. I don't think they updated the literature when TYM started putting their own engines in. I pull a hydraulic Brush Tiger (PTO Driven) and the T474 never even slows down.
I have the T433 and being gear driven nearly all of that makes it to the PTO. I run a small square baler without issue, and a 6ft drum mower OK. It could use a bit more. When the grass gets dense I have to slow my forward pace considerably. The newer model having a bit more HP should make up for the transmission difference and probably give you a similar experience to what I have had. Considering a flail has to grind it up, my guess is you should go up a size. It will probably do it, but you will often be stopping to let the mower speed back up after hitting tough patches. I think I would choose the T494 or T574 for that application. Don't know if the frame size changes on that. I wouldn't get any of the Branson models as they cannot lift as much.
Awesome video tony I really like that little tractor you got there. I was wondering would it be good moving large round bales with ballast of course. Seems like it should have no problem picking them up I just wondered could it handle unloading them from a trailer.
I think it would be fine for a single stack on a trailer. It can lift it, but I don't think it would have the height needed for a double stack on the trailer. The T474's big brother, the T494, might be a better fit for hay. The T494 and T574 are the same tractor minus the Turbo.
Great review, Tony. I'm looking to buy one of these next week. One question I have about attachments is do you use the backhoe and if so would you recommend it?
I do use the backhoe. We are developing it alot. It takes about 5 mins to remove or put on. It saves me from going to town and renting a backhoe for small to medium jobs. If you need it, then I recommend it.
I love my Tym T454 Shuttle Cab. Strangely enough, even though mine is only a 45hp tractor, it uses the BY85 backhoe (as opposed to your 47hp tractor using the BY75 backhoe). I'm still trying to figure out why I can dig 1' deeper and have a higher breakout capacity than your larger tractor? Still trying to figure out the Tym numbering system. Great review!
Hi Tony, thanks for the video. I bought a 474 not to long ago and love it. One thing you mentioned in your review was that the front end loader can go up and down and tilt the bucket at the same time. I haven’t been able to get my front end loader to do that. Is there a trick to it?
That is really an impossible question. Fuel consumption changes with the type of work being done. It is so light on the fuel, that I don't worry about it.
just bought my first TYM. i'm used to gear shift, this is also my first HS. it feels like the parking brake is on when i'm driving. why? the Cruise control, how does it work, turn it on?
Make sure the parking brake is released. Hydrostatic feels different. To engage the cruise control. Drive forward and while driving push the cruise control button. Tap the brake or push the button to stop cruise control. Your cruise control will not engage if your brakes are locked on.
Some people compare tym to MAHINDRA they appear to be nothing alike. When you described the hydraulics I instantly knew there was a difference. With Mahindra if you lose hydraulics you lose everything. Steering, brakes, loader ect... I know this from experience.
It depends on the model. TYM tractors make many of mahindra's models, however, Mahindra uses their engines. Mahindra also buys other models from other manufacturers. Mahindra makes only a few of their own.
@@TonysTractorAdventure mine was absolute junk. Nothing but trouble and it was impossible to get warranty service. The last time it went down it cost me 5k I never could get them to fix it. That was the hydraulic system.
@@pmaint1 this was a while ago. So I don't remember the model but it was 25 hp 4x4 with the loader. And the comment above is exactly correct. The primary filter head literally fell apart after a month of use. I was back dragging a little gravel to smooth my driveway and ran over it. The company refuse to cover it.
I do have a question. On the right side the hydraulic hoses stick out and look vulnerable as well as the block down below, what do you think? Going through the woods I would think you could snag one.
If you had the money and taller garage door would you go cab on this model? You can get this one without a cab through an 8 foot garage door though can't you?
I would not have a cab with the kind of work that I do. Well I'm backing into small brush clearing with my mulcher, I would bust the windows out of a cab tractor. Once my property is completely cleaned up, I may switch to a cab tractor.
Tony I’m looking to upgrade from a 1025R, I’m very interested in 474 and my question is the dealer says I should get ironcraft flail that’s 55” but I’d like the 63” cut to replace my 60d driver over deck in JD! What’s your opinion, will be mowing around pond with mower extended out
Hey mr tony im stuck right now i got my eyes on a cab t474 but idk which to choose hst or shuttle shift is there any power difference in the two far as pulling power?
so...if you wear a belt do you need suspenders? Is it like a reserve shoot for a paratrooper or is it just red neck? your comments matter on this to finally settle the age old debate. 0:00
I appreciate your comment. That video was filmed about a year ago. Since that time, I have lost 52 pounds. At 55 I am bench pressing 275 with a max of 295. I have been at the gym almost every day for one year straight. I went from 42" pants to 32" pants. I have fixed myself, unfortunately, you have to live with you. I hope you can find value in yourself. I wish you the best.
I have had mine for two years. Nothing has broken with extreme use. I wouldn't worry about parts. TYM has two large assembly plants in the USA and they are building one more larger one. They also bought out Branson tractor.
@@TonysTractorAdventure Yes indeed. There are no TYM dealers near me, but I’m planning on going to see their stuff at the Civic Center tomorrow to at least get some B-rolls for my channel.
I am enjoying watching your videos and just have a quick question if you don't mind. What size (5 or 6 foot) bush hog do you run with the TYM474 and is it light to medium duty or heavy duty? Thank you.
The width of the rotary cutter has nothing to do with their duty rating. Medium duty, heavy duty, or even light duty, is a rating used by how big of brush you can cut down. The t474 can easily handle a 6-ft rotary cutter. Light duty cutters generally can only handle one and a half inch saplings before it starts. Damaging the rotary cutter. I never recommend a light duty rotary cutter, ever!
@@TonysTractorAdventure I know the width of a rotary cutter has nothing to do with the rating of heavy duty or light to medium. I also know the rotary cutter I am looking at cuts up to 1.5 in sapplings. I was just curious as to what you were running (60 in or 72 in) off the 474.
I have stopped running a rotary cutter all together. I use a flail mower. I apologize if I insulted your intelligence, but by the way your original comment was written, I interpreted it as you were a new tractor owner. Still, I recommend a medium duty cutter or heavy duty if you go that way. A good rule of thumb on all mowers is 5 PTO horsepower per foot.
@@TonysTractorAdventure No apology needed I'm to old to be sensitive lol. I am new to tractors I heard that the 474 can handle a 6-foot cutter if it's not heavy duty, if the cutter is a heavy-duty cutter (up to 3 in brush I think) then the 474 should drop down to a 5 foot if it's a heavy-duty cutter. My wife says I don't communicate effectively I'm thinking she's right lol
I have 100 achers was thinking either the 474 or 574 for taking care of my property is there a really big difference between the to other than horse power
I been trying to reach out to tym to talk to them about getting a tractor with backhoe but no ones getting back to me ? And what's with your hydraulic lines going to the roll bar ?
I have never had a REGEN in almost 500 hours. If you run the engine at a higher RPM, It is easy to like. If you putt around at low RPM, it will need to REGEN more often.
Can you get front suitcase weights for the TYM tractors? I noticed that on my RK25 climbing hills with the backhoe on the back, the front end wants to lift off the ground. This happens if I'm on a hill and trying to get a load of dirt to if I'm on an incline.
@@TonysTractorAdventure that was down the mental path I was thnking too. Just wondering if someone found a divert and took the road less travelled. Thanks!
Honestly, It doesn't sound that high. Everything has went up. Another option is to buy the OEM third function kit and you can install it. I have a video on how to do it. It takes about thirty minutes if you buy the TYM OEM kit.
Other than one dealer being closer than the other, why pick this over the equivalent RK that has a longer warranty and sometimes more standard features??
First off, I love Rural King store, but my problem is their service center. My local store changes service people like dirty socks. If you have a bad local store service center, then you will have to take your tractor to another store or wait for a mobile service team. There are 4 TYM dealerships within driving distance from me. One other thing. Rural King dropped their last tractor line, and now they have a hard time getting parts.
@@TonysTractorAdventure I finally got one TYM within reasonable driving distance but the way everything has gone up probably will not buy anything. I am skeptical if prices will ever go down.
I totally understand prices being higher. We are building our homestead completely debt free and that has slowed us down dramatically. I think my 5-year plan has turned into seven.
No, It is pretty simple. Push your foot down while moving, and you will feel it fall in. When you don't need it anymore, remove your foot. You foot has to stay on for the rear diff to stay locked.
Tony, hows the t25 working out? I recently watched Peace in the Valley's video where he broke his rk25. And i know that the rk25 and t25 are basically the same tractor. Went to rk in Martin last Sunday and they had the rk25 sitting next to the rk24. I was amazed at the physical size difference between the 2 considering there's only 1 hp difference. The rk24 looks like a giant riding mower where the 25 looks like a tractor. Wish i could afford the 37hp model, but im thinking the 25 will do everything i need to establish and take care of a wooded 13 acre homestead.
Oh yes Sir, any tractor is better than NO TRACTOR. They are Great "helper-outers". They can be very dangerous ( the have no brains- just Brute-force). A 25hp- TYM-T-25 or a RK-25 are a great starting point and fer around 16,000.°°$ tractor and loader. (Like Tony's).ALWAYS be very familiar with the Operator's manual -when you GO FOR IT on a New Tractor purchase. Best wishes Sir.
@@TonysTractorAdventure I torn between a cab or no cab. Seems like it's worth the money but I don't want to be busting windows or tearing it up either.
The very outside of the fenders are ABS plastic. They can be replace easy if needed. The main part of the fender is metal and the hood is metal. I would worry much about this stuff; both metal and ABS plastic has there place and neither are any better than the other once you take everything into consideration. Tractor sales people pick sides based on what their brand has.
Keep thinking about a new or newer tractor the im reminded the government decided its best to neuter your equipment. I refuse to buy anything with that emissions junk on it. I had a Cummins with it truck was in the shop more than on the road with that crap. I'll stick to my farmall super m and a wd45 with a loader
@@TonysTractorAdventure i understand not everyone grew up around tractors understands how they work and be able to repair them. For a new to tractors guy or gal these seem like nice machines. Im just leery of the emissions. You said no problems for you, but maybe you could put out the average cost for whatever your area is to repair or replace the emissions equipment. The EPA has thier grimy paws in everything from washing machines to cars to anything with a small engine chainsaws everything.
