Colombia had a very strong team at the 90s. They might be a world champion but the drug cartels mixed their fingers and the colombian players played their matches under big psyhological preassure so they were so afraid for their families whose are stayed in Colombia
Just asking because I am not so familiar with Colombian culture: Why were they afraid of drug cartels for being the champion? The cartels did not want Colombia to win? Why?
@@nomesa7374 No, basically what happened in the 80/90s alot of the colombian drug lords had owned multiple football clubs around Colombia and paid the salaries of players. So in this time there was alot of money going into colombian football and this also helped keep the best players in the country instead of going overseas. Also alot of drug dealers were acting as 'agents' of some players and would try to get their players selected for the national team. There was also alot of pressure on the national team players because they were aware that alot of drug dealers had their financial interest in the team. So they were worried that if they played bad, they or their families could suffer the consequences from the drug cartels. In the 94 world cup, alot of drug dealers had placed bets on Colombia to make it to the second round because they were considered the best team in the world. So you can imagine this could have impacted player morale
