Connecting to GWs comments on temperature, and maybe metabolic rate, It's interesting that Bowhead Whales live to about 200 years and have lower core body temperature, 2 to 3 degrees I believe, and the same gene that does this also improves repair of double strand breaks in DNA. Ref. work of Vera Gorbanova and others. I think some regimes of dietary restriction also results in lower core body temp.
