This tutorial explains how to create layout dimensions or baseboard in SCARM. The video demonstrates three different ways you can make the baseboard and how to make a layout with a cutout in the center.

I bought both SCARM and Anyrail. First I tried SCARM. I tried for thre days, just couldn't grasp it ( no geaometry or algebra in school). I then tried Anyrail. I was up and designing my layout in about 30 minutes after watching a couple Anyrail tuorials. Anyrail is so much more user friendly.

WOW! Thanks for the info. Until I seen your video, I was going to delete the whole program. It's no good if you can't draw your own layout (already built). You showed how to, where their program did not. Thanks again.

You can also change from inches to millimeters by clicking on the 'in' (upper left of the drawing area). This brings up the dialog box for dimensions settings.

I used the baseboard option to make the dimensions of the walls of my mancave. Now I can lay out my track taking into account the walls I can or can not break through for tunnels. Granted, in 3d, the whole room is a baseboard.

I have not watched your entire series as of yet but I am working on it. I know this was a while ago but I cant seem to find a way to create my own radius to use? I am using mostly Atlas n scale code 80 flex track. Is it possible to create my own radius of 13.5 inches for design purposes? GREAT tutorial by the way ... thanks :)

honestgbfan It's been a while for me, but I think you can set the radius in the flex track tool. I'll have to go back and check. There have been a lot of updates since I made thoes videos.

Thank you very much :) i did watch the video a few more times and did learn the flex track tool for completing odd pieces sometimes needed to fill in gaps. But to create a certain radius of 13.5 inches for yhe mainline still eludes me. Of course this is part of the fun, trying to figure out the design puzzle and learn new things :) thanks again

Great tutorials but you erred in making the baseboard with the cutout. You were okay until after creating the diagonal line at 17:25. You went around the outside of the baseboard in a clockwise direction. To make any sense of what comprises the baseboard, you needed to go counterclockwise around the inner edge. Think of that diagonal line as a cut, and you are tracing the edge. Try it that way, it works. I did it and the 3D view had a hole in it instead of green as yours did at 18:37.

Hey there I'm planning a horseshoe shaped layout going around a room. I'm having an issue trying to figure out how to do that with scarm. To give you a visual check out the video on my channel. Please help, lots of headaches....

I would use either the absolute coordinates or displacement tools (explained in my video. I would sketch out the layout on a piece of paper figure out the dimensions and the plot points then use those tools to enter it into SCARM.

My goal was to make a very detailed video for individuals who have no idea how to use the software or need complete explanations.
