One question, the ring needs to be removed after every dish cooked? Will it not make the ring loose? Thank you for all the super advice. I am a very new first time instant pot user❤

Yeah! You should use a lavalier mic though, they are not expensive and they will sound better for voice than other very expensive mics, because they are a lot closer, so it won't have all that reverb and your voice will be a lot clearer.
Thank you for removing background music... I’m legally deaf it messes with my customized sound boosters 🥴.... but the music also confuses the close captions at times. 😭. Love your information.
Great list. I would add 27 don't pull part of the sealing ring out and then just keep pulling. Work your way around. The rivets under the retaining ring can snap if too much force is applied. 28 buy an extra sealing ring and use one for sweet/low flavour foods, and one for strong savoury foods like chillies, curries, beans, etc.
I'm so glad I found your channel. I'm really-really-really old. I live by myself and cook my own meals - no processed food - nothing from a can or box. I just got my Instant Pot today, June 22, 2020 so yeah, I need your channel. Thanks so much.
Love this video. OneNote from an electrician though. If an extension cord has an impact on your cook time, the cord wires are too small. This is bad for the appliance, and it is potentially a safety hazard. Big box (Lowe’s, HomeDepot, etc) or hardware stores sell a variety of cords in different gages. Also the longer the cord, the heavier gage it needs to be.
I burned out 3 expensive 55 cup coffee pots before knowing not to put it on an extension cord. Get a designated extension cord specifically for small appliances.
Thank god! No music while talking. Thank you so much for listening to your viewers. I’ve just ordered an I.P. And have been trying to watch and learn what I can before it gets here next week. I did subscribe to your channel but now will enjoy it so much more. xx
I made a main dish as my first dish with the instant pot (well Yeti) and promptly fell in love with it. It hasn't failed me yet. I love it. It's wonderful.
I prefer no music. Thanks for asking. I’m watching you for INFORMATION, not ENTERTAINMENT. I lost my manual before I ever began using it. In essence, you are my manual! I’ve learned much from you, and I find your personality quite charming. It’s obvious you spend a lot of time preparing your videos. I even like the fact that you make mistakes, as we all do.
You've only been on 3 weeks?! You are such a pro! I love your presentation style and voice. I prefer no or very low background noise because sometimes it's very distracting. Keep the great content coming and thank you😁
No music is always appreciated because it more often than not is distracting. I've never used an instant pot, and now that you have totally exhausted me with the don't s, I've made one note for myself. Don't buy and instant pot. Grin. Great video....
I do like it without music while you're talking you have a beautiful voice and great information that needs to be listened to. Music is quite OK before and after :-)
So much better to hear you without music. My hearing isn’t great and the music, for me, really got in the way of hearing your fantastic tips! Thank you for listening to us! This video was fantastic and I appreciate you. Thank you 🙏
Hey, just wanted to make the comment that my husband who fixes furnaces heard your last tip, and he said that your problem is likely that you're using an extension cord with too small of a gauge. A heavy-duty extension cord should fix the problem. Doesn't have to be longer, just a thicker gauge.
Love these tips! I love that you just cut to the chase and don't waste any time! I much prefer no music as I have audio issues and music in the background is very distracting. I have to add that you are absolutely adorable! Very well done and I'm subscribing!
The spoon/ladels that come with most instant pots with the "standard" release valves actually fit onto the release valve - use the handle end where there's a hole for hanging the utensil, it should pretty much fit on perfectly 👍🏻
If you’re that afraid, let it sit for a while. It doesn’t have to be quick released. I’ve always used my finger & have NEVER burned myself. All you have to do is touch the the little protruding thingy and move it with the slightest twitch of your finger. If your big enough to cook, then your big enough to bend your finger.
I haven't done that with my instant pot ....BUT I HAVE done it with hot liquid in a blender--what a mess on the ceiling, walls, floor, me....I just assumed that it would be the same issue with the instant pot so I have been careful. And yes ,you are a great presenter! Thank you!
My husband and I just got the 8 quart one. I made a vegetable beef soup in 35 minutes. I am in love!!! Thank you for all the information so I don't make mistakes.
Thank you! I like the presentation without music. I am a very experienced instant pot user so I knew most of what you presented. I admit I didn’t know that the slow cooking function cooks at a lower temp than a regular crock pot. I’ve not ever used that function as I like my slow cooked food in stone ware. I always leave my instant pot on the back burner of my glass top stove. It never occurred to me someone could turn on the burner. It’s just my husband and me, so that’s not going to happen. I like the convenience of the exhaust fan right above the pot when I release pressure. Just make sure when you release pressure you don’t direct the steam at the light bulbs. I never had an issue in my house, but I once broke the bulbs in my son’s house. Nice presentation!
@@philso7872 I use a glass plate from a microwave that I got at a thrift store, which has them every once in a while. I was lucky enough to get a round one that exactly fits under the Instant Pot. Did this because using the IP directly on the counter discolored the counter top.
I put mine on the stove all the time, usually on a large wooden cutting board from Ikea. But this video is geared toward beginners so advacned users can do whatever they please as long as they know what NOT to do! ;)
Excellent tips. Even those of us who have been cooking for years can learn a thing or two from your video. As far as the music goes: This is the first video of yours that I've watched, so I can't compare with/without for yours, but I usually find that music with an instructional video distracts rather than enhances.
Great job explaining everything. This is the most thorough video and explanations I've seen since I open my instant pot. It doesn't matter to me with or without music. It's your video, so run it however you like.
@@thelast1090 Pressure Luck Cooking has some great instant pot recipes on youtube and his website as well as a cooking book. I would also recommend Sam The Cooking Guy youtube for some more general recipes. Keep looking around.
In your research, read the manual, including "troubleshooting". Also, check the picture of your IP to make certain you have all its parts. Another thing, when buying a cookbook, it’s nice if it has Instant Pots approval label.
Thank you so much! I've never used my instant pot and was looking for ideas and came across your video. I definitely would not have known not to do the quick release and would have 100% made a mess or hurt myself. Thank you for sparing me mistakes!!
A must-watch for new owners like me. Thank you! One question about your instructions to not use milk as the liquid in a recipe. Does this mean when the only liquid is milk? I used a mixture of liquids that included milk and cream (didn't have half/half) to make risotto and had no problems with the results (in fact it was perfect). How much milk is too much milk? As for music/no music. I vote for no music.
Very concise and to the point. I luv it. I am a slow cooker guy but I acquired an electric pressure cooker XL and a 1st time user, so I am learning not to hurt myself or others. Music or no music, I want to hear the important points. 👍
Great tips! Make oatmeal first and eggs for egg salad second. =) Third meal - make pressure cooked beef short ribs - big payoff on that one. Big tip for me... learn how to use the timer. I love waking up and having breakfast (oatmeal - just oats and water) ready for the kids already.
Quick note: if you are having problems with an extension cord,. you are likely using a cheap (lamp) extension. If you have an industrial grade extension (15-20A. like used for power tools), It should be fine. Hard to find one 6 ft or shorter, but I have one. I haven't tried it with the pot, because I have no need. And it's busy extending my microwave oven ;)
I looking to buy an Instant Pot and researching how to use it. This information, although some of it is common sense, is great for a noob like me. Thank you for this video.
You are a delight to watch and listen to! Very friendly but to the point and not too chatty. I have very little free time and being thorough in the shortest time possible is an absolute plus! You have a new subscriber, along with my wife, who watches along on occasion. BTW, I much prefer no music over your talking, your voice is so pleasant that the music only detracts from both the sound and the content.
Great tips; thank you! I prefer either no music while you're talking, or very LOW music. Most RU-vidrs put their music on too loud or use music that is really irritating...which is very distracting.
I guess the third time is a charm....lol, I think it could be easily forgotten, if stored as suggested, it should be the first thing you put together on the lid.
I did it once when I tried to cook meatball pasta. But to my surprise the pasta turned out fine! Not sure if I damaged the pot though....it happened last month and so far my instant pot is still working. I will keep my fingers crossed!
@@yujuti8416 I don't think you damaged anything, it just prevents the pot from building up pressure and then pressure cooking. if you were using it as a slow cooker it should not have made any difference.
#27 Don’t forget to put the seal back on your instant pot before using it after cleaning it. I've done this more than once. It will function without the seal, but it won't work. This is a great video. I felt the face palm of mistakes I've made and learned some new stuff too.😁👍
I've had my IP for about 5 years but thought I'd watch this anyway. SO glad I did as used the slow cooker function only once and never again as the food wasn't cooked - I had no idea this is different from usual slow cookers. Also would not have known about the extension lead - thank you! Great vid and great to have no music and be able to hear you :)
If you ever revise this video, I recommend a slight change to your extension cord reference. If the extension cord you used extended the time to get to pressure and to cook, this means the cord you used did not have a sufficient amperage rating, and the cord itself was heating up. The reason not to use such a cord is that it is a significant fire hazard. An appliance cord rated for the amperage drawn by the Instant Pot would be electrically safe, but it usually presents the hazard of someone snagging it while the pot is in use. So, same recommendation (don't use an extension cord), but for slightly different reasons. No music is best. Storing lid and seal ring my favorite.
Hey guys! Thanks for watching! Tell me what Instant Pot DON'T you liked best! AND tell me if you prefer NO MUSIC in the background or if you don't care! Thanks! - Lisa
Prefer without for sure. Thanks for all the tips. I’m obsessed with mine now and so far I made eggs (was my first) and I made tortilla soup. Tortilla soup was AMAZING!
Yes on “ NO music !” I stop watchhg so many things only bc music annoys me! This is my first video of yours and I really like it- you’re sincere , seem honest ( vs hearing people who obviously are compensated by a company )
You. Are. Amazing. Just discovered you. I have my first instant pot being delivered as I speak and I'm so excited! But also pretty intimidated. This was a really informative video to watch and I really appreciate it
Hi Linda from Vancouver Island. Your Tutorials are excellent. You are talented, helpful, caring, knowledgable and so sweet. Appreciate your videos very much. Thank you!
No music!! FINALLY!! Good job! Excellent video. I was actually doing many of these don't do's so I really appreciate this video. I am trying to be an instant pot master and this video helped me a lot!
No music is better I think 👍 And 3 weeks on youtube! That’s amazing! You’re so professional and confident I would have thought you’d been doing this for years! Thanks for the advice.
Thank you so much for your informative videos. I do like your presentation without music. A lot of us already have background noise in our homes that our ears have to filter out, anyway, so the lack of music helps us concentrate on what you have to say.
If you use an extension cord with your instant pot you need to use a heavier gauge Appliance cord because a regular extension cord can't handle the amount of Watts that the instant pot uses.
came here to say this. absolutely nothing wrong electrically when using the right cord. mine is 18 awg and can be found by searching for heavy duty extension or 18awg extension. that being said, do be careful if you need to use any extension cord because of the increased likelyhood of tripping over or accidentaly pulling on the cord... which could be bad news. short cords are a safety feature for many appliances...
@@robertgoetsch6790 ah shutuppa you face www.homedepot.com/p/CERTIFIED-APPLIANCE-ACCESSORIES-3-ft-14-3-1-Wire-Conductor-Extension-Cord-15-0303/309364982?mtc=Shopping-B-F_Brand-G-Multi-NA-Multi-NA-Feed-PLA-NA-NA-Catchall_PLA&cm_mmc=Shopping-B-F_Brand-G-Multi-NA-Multi-NA-Feed-PLA-NA-NA-Catchall_PLA-71700000014585962-58700001236285396-92700010802552412&gclsrc=aw.ds&&gclid=Cj0KCQiA7OnxBRCNARIsAIW53B8ntZpVL6uXXLfyYxSJ6PqgDMniMLXkTFwvTGlwq8juLfbApLFaplgaAtivEALw_wcB
@@robertgoetsch6790 Wrong way! 18 awg is smaller than 16, which most household extension cords are. Wire gauge numbers are backwards, smaller number is larger wire. 14 awg will handle 1500 watts up to a reasonable distance, 25' or so.
I totally agree, In our RV I have to be careful with overloading circuits, I installed a dedicated 20 amp outlet for a portable air conditioner, now that it is winter I use a heavy duty 14 gauge / 10 ft. long extension cord and plug in any high draw appliance I need it for. works great. I have used it for portable electric heater, air fryer, instant pot, counter top dishwasher... the list goes on. never a problem if you use the correct equipment.
First time using the instant pot here, I cooked beans and actually, I am eating them right now. They are delicious!. It is good to know about all the tips, I find them very useful. Thank you!!
The Instant Pot Duo Nova has an automatic sealing knob that seals the pot when the lid is fully locked in place, and you push down on the sealing knob to vent with quick release. I strongly agree with your tip to only cook basic things in the Instant Pot when you are a beginner.
Thank you for making this comment. I had no idea what she was talking about because I always just press the button. I panicked because I thought I was doing it wrong this whole time Until I saw your comment and realized my Instantpot isn’t like hers
I didn't take mine out of the box for at least a month bkz I'd heard so many stories of wasted food and just not knowing how to use the thing. Do open it!!! After only a few attempts, you'll kick yourself for waiting so long. Definitely stay tuned to this lady and also look at pressureluckcooking.com -- his recipes always come out great.
This was so helpful for this brand-new Instant Pot user. I didn't even take mine out of its box for well over a year after purchasing it, as I was intimidated by it! (Nice to find out I wasn't alone in that.) I'm studying up on how to properly use it before I cook my first meal in it this week.
Thank you for these videos Lisa!!! I've had mine for quite some time and I have not started really using it at all. Your videos, tutorials, and recipes are helping me ease into it! Thank you so much and please keep doing what you do!
I have been using my instant pot for probably 5 years, and I still learned so many things from this video!!! Thank you! (Btw- I much prefer instructional videos without music. My ADHD kicks in, along with a little nerve deafness, and I either can’t concentrate on what is being said because of the music, or I can’t distinguish the speech from the music. You did a great job without the added distraction, you are a very good presenter.)
No background music please. As an older person with hearing problems, it's easier to hear you without background music/noise. Thank you. Love your videos.
Excellent video. So many of the tips are good old common sense things BUT can easily be forgotten in the excitement of using a new kitchen appliance. So it's great that you took the time to remind us all. Oh, and no music really helped you get your point across clearly. Well done. Thanks
I absolutely love you! omgosh you have no idea what a help this video was to me. I just bought my first instant pot and I was so excited which quickly turned to so nervous and unsure of what the heck I was doing. You have given me just a little bit of confidence to get me started and master this thing. Because of your advice I put off making a full meal my first time out and tomorrow I will play around with it by making eggs or potatoes to get the hang of it and hopefully be able to make a dinner later in the day. Any advice on what meal to make first time out? (btw I can't have any carbs - rice, potatoes, pasta - or sugars) Thank you for sharing this video and I can't wait to watch the others. p.s. you could play elevator music for all I care - your info is such a huge help I could watch it no matter what was playing. But I do agree with a comment below that your voice is very inviting and friendly. It's like hanging out with the girls. :0)
Thanks so much Lisa, I have used a conventional pressure cooker for many many years and quite a few of your 26 x "DO NOT's" are common sense practices from using a conventional pressure cooker any way but nice to be reminded of the extra things to consider when using the Instant Pot Duo. Loving your awesome recipes, already liked the video and subscribed to your channel! Have just moved into a new apartment and just using the 5.7 litre Instant Pot Duo and the 5.7 litre Instant Pot Vortex Air Fryer, and I'm now thinking I do not even need a conventional cooker any more, especially after discovering the saute function.
Just got my first IP yesterday, a Duo Crisp, and my first thing was boiling eggs... Looks like a good start! Making pea and ham soup now, and glad to say the recipe says to do a 'natural release' so no soup spraying over my kitchen today 😃 Thanks for all the great tips.
This is so helpful as I have a Phillips All in One pressure cooker instead.Good to know about correct storage and the dairy products in pressure cooking. So true about cook times as yes it needs extra time to heat up etc.Thankyou so much!😁
You must not have read the manual. Unfortunately, with RU-vid, people are losing the ability to read. I saw a video the other day and 97% of the comments said what a great video it was, yatta, yatta. Most of them didn’t even realize she was missing parts of her Instant Pot! But "it was great...". Obviously the lady who made the video didn’t read her manual either!
