I'm still not sure how it happened... I think I lost it in the sky and didn't realize it was that close. Nothing on the outside was damaged but the camera eventually stopped working - unsure if it was related.
Two others I always carry 1. A bin bag, you use it as rain cover for you or your bag, a makeshift mat if you need to lie on the ground for that stunning close up or even to cart your rubbish home. 2. Spare boot laces, aside from their obvious use, which can be a real lifesaver when you’re in the hills, they can be used to lash things together, tie up items, etc. Simon

Your videos have really fixated me on purchasing a shimoda backpack and I recently purchased the Explore V2 35 with the medium DSLR core unit. I’m going to take some tips from your video onto how to pack before I leave for Tokyo for a weekend getaway😊
instead of toilet paper I keep wet wipes, you can clean up with them too, they come is small flat travel size too, or save money and buy the big packs and put some in a zip lock bag. I got wet wipes in my car and camera bag.
@@ShimodaDesigns forgot to mention they make flushable wipes and come in small packs as well I got mine on Amazon my favorite wipes (non flushable) are made by Bliss I get the Lemon and Sage ones no parabens or other stuff and are cruelty free.they come 30 to a small pack.
Thanks, Ian! Definitely a couple more items I'll add to my bag! (Like toilet paper - really. I have plenty of other "just in case" stuff but that had sort of slipped off the list). And I want to reiterate what you said about the rain cover. Especially because the Shimoda bags are front-opening (or is it back opening). Any time I'm out in the woods or at the coast or even in rocky terrain (which where I live means lava rock which can be hard on just about any fabric) I throw the rain cover on the outside. Then if (actually when) I need to set the bag down in mud (rainforest here in the PWN), sand or whatever the pack stays clean. 90% of what I need is accessible through the main camera gear opening. One more thing I have in my bag all the time is one of those insulated mats you can sit on. Like a piece of a sleeping pad. Great when sitting on wet logs, snow, whatever but also sometimes useful for a place to lay out gear. Keep 'em coming. Always useful! (Still loving my Action X30!)
Hello everyone, I recently bought the X50 and took it on a hike. The Hike was pretty rough and I had to clean the bag intensely because of all the mud on it. However now I have the Issue that the steel frame that goes around the bag came out of it'"s anchors on top and I just can't fit it back in. It feels like I'm going to tear the backpack and just don't have the strength to get it back in. Is there a trick to it?
Hi, find something to leverage the frame and pop it under the corner mounts, so your not using your hands. Make sure it is dull as to not tear the pack. A peace of plastic works - like a wax scraper. Make sure it's not wide or has sharp corners. I guess I have a new video to make... ;)
@@ShimodaDesigns Maybe I'll have to wait for that video because I am really struggling with it. I can fit it in either side left or right but it won't fit in both it's just too small. I'm wondering now if it has to do with that it got pretty soaked during the hike and i washed it with water and had it dry in the sun afterwards. Maybe I need to soak it in water again and give it another try if it will fit then? As for finding a lever. I will try that next when I get a hand on one. Thanks for the quick reply!

@@ShimodaDesigns Hi Ian, thanks for the offer. I got it now :) I used a lever like you suggested and finally it worked. I was trying to fix it by accessing from the back but after removing the sack and accessing it from the top i figured what you meant with using a lever. Yay! And it's a great bag you made. I love it :)
I have one for the next “Mailbag” segment: iron-on patches. Yes? No? I’d love to put one on my X-50 (maybe the 30 too) but I don’t want to mess it up. Maybe you can test it out for us? Thanks for all you do Ian!
I always tell people No - don't do it, because your compromising the outer laminates durability. Which means your messing with the abrasion and water repellency. With that said, my son always needs name tags ironed on to his clothes and I had been thinking about that recently (related to our packs)... I will consult with the inhouse expert on the matter and see what we can do :) Thanks Ian
