Objectively standing, probably not considering what he's paid. When you factor in where their specific cap situation was at the time, it becomes a good move.

@Austin Madore I'm just pointing out that if you could construct a roster and cap situation from scratch, a 20 million dollar contract for a DT not named Aaron Donald is not a shrewd move. In their scenario it was completely fine because they had to spend. It isn't that hard to understand. There are only about 15 teams (cap situation factored in) that should be comfortable with this contract and player on their roster.

As a 49ers fan, I miss him. I remember in 2018, he had 12.5 sacks. He’s been consistent the last few years. I think he’s only behind Aaron Donald.

2nd best interior defensive lineman behind Donald. Donald is in his own tier obviously but Buckner is a monster too. Adding him to that Colts defense changed a lot.

In these highlights you don't even see all the chaos and pile-ups he causes in the interior-line during run plays which allows the Colts LB's to get free shots on RB's. Like most great interior D-linemen, he's underappreciated.

Lower than Nelson, higher than Darius just based off importance of position. Nelson is the best in the league at his position. Darius and Deforest are top 2. You can make an argument that they are the best as well, but there is no argument with Q.

Top 2 Defensive tackle because of garrett in cleveland. He is only one better. I wish 49ers could have kept him instead of arik armstead. I still dont understand why they kept him instead. I know it saved em 12 or 13 mill but he is so so so valuable. Javon kinlaw is good. But nothing close.
