The presentation will highlight the ‘Before - The Challenge - The Solution’ of this multi-million project which was substantially completed in Spring 2024. The project consists of the following major improvements:
• Extended platform and new platform with accessible footbridge with lifts at Dore & Totley station,
• A railway loop between Bamford and Hathersage,
• A new overbridge at Hathersage West, replacing the current foot crossing to improve safety,
• Signalling improvements along the line to improve reliability and Journey time improvements.

The RCEA was founded in 1921 and has evolved to keep pace with changes in the UK’s railway industry.
In 1997 the Association reconstituted itself, broadened membership and became an Associated Society of the Institution of Civil Engineers. This has enabled us to serve the needs of engineers in the new railway industry which has emerged from the privatisation of British Railways into Railtrack, and then with the creation of Network Rail in 2004.
We work closely with other engineering disciplines through the Railway Engineering Forum and Young Railway Professionals to develop coherent strategies for the UK rail network and to foster training and development of engineers at all levels.
