Ok whānau same song, new clip - since I wanted to add chords and RU-vid ain't got no "update video" feature - so just making it as simple for us as I can
And for everyone else, I just thought I'd redo the 4 most viewed clips for all our subscribers so you fullaz can get a little extra out of it ... this is #3 ... thanks for watching
Oh yeah also I find these chords a little too low for the whānau when we sing it so if you wanna change key but not sure how to do that, you can go here: www.autotranspo...

Rip uncle. I remember on my 16th birthday I came home from school my mum had prepared a small afternoon tea for me. I was thinking of you at the same time and lo and behold you walk thru the gate. You stayed for a few hours. As you were walking to your car you turned around to me and said babe ill see you at your 21st. Unfortunately you passed a year before. The day of my 21st I was upset about something when I heard your song pop into my head. Then I heard a voice saying I'm here now I promised I would be here. I knew then you had kept your promise... Love you uncle

Awesome song! Had the honour of meeting late Piripi Cope. He came to visit Canada in 1999 and stayed in our First Nations community. I am from the Nuu-chah-nulth on the West Coast of Vancouver Island. Piripi also helped in organizing a cultural exchange in 2001. I still have the Te Hononga CD he gifted me.

Kia ora Darrell. I would love a copy of Te Hononga CD as my late Dad's and my copy are missing. I have the book but my beloved CD is gone and my cousin and l want to revive the old Ngapuhi and Ngatihine waiata for our whanau to learn. Will you please email me? evelynkawiti@gmail.com. l wasn't lucky enough to be on Piripi's wananga before his untimely passing. My children were also performers in Henare Mahanga's Te Kupenga Midget Club. Tena koe, Evelyn

Hello @darrellross that is wonderful news!! Would you possibly be willing to download songs digitally and send online? Will definitely pay for your efforts. These songs are beyond sentimental to me, the ONLY songs my nana used to play and sing along with me. 🥺😭

Beautifully done! Thank you so much for these chords. I am a South African and just loooove the Maori songs. Both my girls are kapa haka girls doing so well, and I want them to practice more at home. I would love to know more songs and chords for the guitar so I can support them. Hope to see more!

Love this song, always reminds me of home, every time I feel homesick I go looking for it on youtube.Best memories I have of this song,is being a little girl at the Taheke Marae or The Taheke community centre and Papa Piripi sing louder Serena,he even used to come to Opononi Area School and making all of us kids from Taheke and Waima sing louder coz he knew we had this song drummed into our heads, most of the time by him.I miss those days always in our hearts papa piripi xox

@darrellrossjr Kiaora Darrell, My name is Lehi Rangi, Uncle Piripi is my grandmothers 1st cousin and I would like to thank you on behalf of our family/Whanau and Tribe/Iwi for acknowledging our dear Uncle Piripi. Uncle always said that all indigenous people are related, He told me that 'All of our native songs are actually Hiphop and Rnb in its purest form', that is something that I will always carry with me Kiaora!
