Here is an actual - albeit scale model - railway line and even a canal within the hold of a narrowboat on the canal. Made by the wonderful Keith Lodge, he even has a blog for the model which you can follow at hadarford.blogs...

"If we hadn't of done this, we would have just filled it up with junk". Might be the most honest reason ever provided for doing any thing at any time.

It's a good reason, in my books! I'm fed up with junk. XD
@hadarlady
@hadarlady Год назад
We decided we did not need anymore living space, so the hold would of ended up with junk and stuff we would never use or need in it. Building the railway was the logical thing to do. Just as well, I love them as much as Keith does 😀.

@@hadarlady My! A reply from the very woman responsible for the idea! How nice!! I've built model railways and I know exactly how much effort went into the engineering of the layout, the construction of the layout and the myriad details for the scenery. Amongst the best I've ever seen! And so far above my measly efforts! Well done!

This is, quite possibly, the best thing that I have seen in quite some time! There are “professional “ model train clubs around here with large setups and groups of men who stand around them and rub their chins seriously and talk for hours. However, even with 6, 8, maybe a dozen men and all their tools and expertise but their setup doesn’t hold a candle to this setup. It is wonderful! Thank you for sharing this. And thanks to the gentleman for allowing you to see and film this to share with us. And taking the time to give you a tour! This made my day! R

What a beautiful and clever model train and village! It's amazing the detail and thought that's gone into it. Had to laugh at the funeral in progress. And impressed that he put his boat in dry dock so he could create a level model canal! Lots of fun, this. Thanks for sharing!

We were booked to go into dry dock for blacking the hull anyway Debba, I got the layout to the point where it was ready to do so, timing was pretty good though. It was our boat builder who suggested pouring the resin for the canal whilst in dry dock. Many model church scenes have a wedding in progress, I wanted to be different. Keith

Congratulations David, an entirely new version of mixing model railway and narrowboat. I have seen many model railways with canals and narrowboats, but never model railways on a narrowboat. I had thought about it earlier, but discarded the possibility due to issues with keeping it level. Clearly Keith have managed to do an excellent job with the layout. Also congrats to Keith on completing the layout in one year only, that has got to be a record of some sort. 😊

Brilliant. My Dad loved model railways and model making but in later life set aside the hobby (not sure why). Though having to be in a nursing home in his last year of life, we made a small board set up for his room and bought a very small gauge for him to “play” with. Able to make with help/buy new/rearrange cars, people, animals, objects as well as operate the train brought him much joy in those last months. In the 1960s my brother also made an elaborate circular set up model railway in his box room bedroom with a lift up section in front of the door to get in and out.
