Honestly, just calculate how long a bus ride takes from one end to another, and you see that this is a fictions concept. Someone has promised the cities $5 -50 000 permits, and that all goes into surveillance cameras. To fine you. For visiting your mother. Think it through.

a 15 min ctiy means, you are within a district, that district will provide you limited options and resources, based on your needs which is decided by the goverment, your inquires go through your council, everything else you require is a permit that only the council can provide. Permits are limted. Rules and obligations are determined by the goverment. Your friends and families could be in a different district. You will not be able to visit them when you like, that is for the council to decide with a permit. You will not just be able to jump in your car and drive, because the distict is under surveillance and you would of registered your vehicle to them. You will be fined anytime you go beyong 15 mins as well etc... go read their rules and notice it also says in the future they will change it and reduce your right but they say " we don't remove rights we give them".

It takes me an average of 3 busses and almost 2 hours to get to the downtown core from Maple Ridge. And with only 1 bus an hour through our neighbourhood, which DREAMER came up with being a "15 min. city" ? It takes me 15 minutes just to get to the bus stop.

I fail to see how CO2 emissions adversely affect the environment when CO2 is used by plants everywhere to live, grow and thrive. And those same plants give off O2 into the atmosphere which is essential for all animal and human life. Also, why aren't these climate change alarmists interested in nuclear energy since it's clearly the cleanest type of energy we have with its only by-product being water vapor which is great for the environment? Also, why aren't these climate change alarmists interested in simply planting more trees and cleaning trash out of our oceans? Why are they so intent on getting all the plebs to eat bugs and worms, live in pods and confined city plans, locking people down, and controlling population growth, especially when the elite don't subject themselves to these restrictions? Climate change alarmism is a hoax!

@FlyingMonkies325 Lol, CO2 is about as "green" a gas as there is, since it literally is the gas used by plants to conduct photosynthesis along with sunlight. As CO2 levels increase in the atmosphere plants absorb more of it and grow because of it. This has been demonstrated in experiments: "Under elevated CO2 most plant species show higher rates of photosynthesis, increased growth, decreased water use and lowered tissue concentrations of nitrogen and protein." - _Effects of Rising Atmospheric Concentrations of Carbon Dioxide on Plants_ Also, under elevated CO2, not only do plants generally grow larger, but our food crops increase their yield as well: "Since photosynthesis and stomatal behavior are central to plant carbon and water metabolism, growth of plants under elevated CO2 leads to a large variety of secondary effects on plant physiology. The availability of additional photosynthate enables most plants to grow faster under elevated CO2, with dry matter production in FACE [Free-Air Carbon dioxide Enrichment] experiments being increased on average by 17% for the aboveground, and more than 30% for the belowground, portions of plants (Ainsworth & Long 2005; de Graaff et al. 2006). This increased growth is also reflected in the harvestable yield of crops, with wheat, rice and soybean all showing increases in yield of 12-14% under elevated CO2 in FACE experiments (Ainsworth 2008; Long et al. 2006)." - _ibid_ Regarding the effects of elevated CO2 on plants in relation to O3 (Ozone), the increased CO2 in the atmosphere actually works to the plant's benefit to protect them, and by extension us: "Elevated CO2 substantially decreases the negative effects of high ozone on photosynthesis, growth, and seed yield in both soybeans and rice (Feng et al. 2008; Morgan et al. 2003). Across experiments with all plant species, the enhancement of growth by elevated CO2 is much greater under conditions of ozone stress than otherwise (Poorter & Navas 2003)." - _ibid_ It's clear that increased CO2 in the atmosphere helps plants across the world to grow. CO2 is truly a "green" gas. The real answer to this climate change hysteria is the planting of more trees and plants around the world as well as the cleaning up and disposing of our garbage in the oceans. We need plants, they are what makes our planet green to begin with. And increased CO2 levels will only help ensure that we have more of them. Nuclear Power Plants will also only help since the byproduct of Nuclear Power is H2O (water). Let's stop this climate hysteria crap and focus on real solutions to our problems.
@justanotherlikeyou
@justanotherlikeyou Год назад
@FlyingMonkies325 Incorrect. The data was for atmospheric concentrations of CO2, not localized phenomenon of small quantities. Also, the data shows that you're incorrect about plants suffering from increased levels of CO2. Sure, too much of anything can be bad, but that's not what is projected for CO2 levels globally. Plants would thrive in an increased CO2 environment. And that's really the point, isn't it? That's what you really don't want people to discover, because then your climate hysteria would come crashing down. The fact is that with increased CO2 levels we would get increased plant growth and food crop yields. That's not a bad thing. And with more plants there'd be more to absorb the increased levels of CO2 in the atmosphere as well which is good for every animal species. Would the planet get a little warmer? Sure. Could that throw off some ecosystems? Sure. It's believed the planet was much warmer in the prehistoric past than it is today. Whether humans are contributing significantly to the warming in modern times or not is really immaterial. The sun is also warming our planet over time, and it has a much greater affect on the earth than any human influence possibly can. Point is, we'll survive as a species, and so will plants. It'll all be just fine. So please stop with the doomsday climate hysteria. We've all had enough of your political fear-mongering nonsense. In the 80's to the 90's it was "greenhouse gases". In the 90's to the 2000's it was "global warming". Now from the 2000's to the present it's "climate change". Enough! Give it a rest for goodness sakes. We're tired of it!

Thinking of 15 minute walkable cities in terms of "districts" is entirely wrong because neighbourhoods are not homogenously cellular, they are comprised of hundreds of individual households distributed across the entire neighbourhood and beyond, and that allows the individual homeowner ot tenant to decide how best to pick and value their own ideal location. Think of doctors without borders... it makes no sense to put up arbitrary boundaries... but it DOES make sense to continue focusing on TOD (transit-oriented development): build a nodal transit network with good connectivity to cycling AND vehicle infrastrsucture, like they've been doing for over 2 decades now, continue with the surburban centre zoning and allow the real estate market to take care of the optimizations (like it always has, I don't see why we have to re-frame this as some new-fangled idea just because some eccentric said something that a bunch of stiffs in Davos decided to latch onto to pursue their agenda of complete control over the peons).

A '15 minute city' is just another form of control. First it will be a convenience and later, it will become a requirement that you shop within your city/district. They want to take away your freedom of choice by deciding where you will shop and what products you can buy. High end 15 min cities will have the high end shops and lower class cities will have the lower end stores. Watch the movie 'In Time,' the cities are set up like this.

So I got questions. Are they just making more walking and biking trails so people will want to walk or exercise more. Or are they gonna force you to walk and bike within these 15 min walls. If that's the case What if you work across the city it's not uncommon for people to have a hour communite to work, Or hell what if you have a friend who you wanna visit who's outside of these 15 min walls. How are they gonna enforce this? I mean I'm all for promoting physical health and green energy for making more options for people who wish to use those options, but to enforce people to stay within your 15 min walls I can't get on board with.

If you actually wanted to this you would have to change the layout of a city. You would have to make it circular and put all the businesses in the center and all the homes around it. Then u would have equal walking distance roughly from any home to the businesses at the center. You could put a park right in the middle. And public transit would be easier too. But if you want more people to use bikes you would also have to have a lot and i mean a lot of bike racks. When i was in Denmark ive never seen bike racks like that b4. There were thousands of bikes in racks everywhere. Almost everyone rode a bike. Even people with children and deliveries. They used cargo bikes. It was nice to see. There were still cars of course, but most rode.

We once visited Vittoria Gasteiz in Spain. This is a 1,100-year-old city that is 4-5 km wide. They converted a 12-lane road through the center of town to allow other transportation options (bike, pedestrian, transit and still cars but that's down to four lanes). The result was totally embraced by locals who found it easier to walk more, cycle more etc. This is very hard for Cities like Edmonton or Calgary, statistically two of the most sprawling cities in the world. We have to work with what we have. I think we could attempt to create 15-minute communities but not the city as a whole. But that would be an improvement so we can do more close to home (shopping, restaurants, parks etc.). You will still have to drive to many places, but perhaps with some good design you will be able to take an LRT to a hockey game or to the big mall. We can do better to create neighbourhoods that are not monocultures of single family homes with few options to live locally. And that's really all 15-minute cities is about -- making more livable communities.
@kh8895
@kh8895 Год назад
@@greenenergyfuturesVittoria sounds nice. Ya i agree it would be almost impossible to do it in already existing cities. Especially large ones. Its more of a new build type thing. Have you ever heard of Jaques Fresco. He was a futurist/engineer, he had an idea similar to a 15 min city. Hello all I am afraid that this concept is different from what these wef politicians are telling us. Like the TED show in this video, is it real that they planning such an enviroment? Many questions are open that the wef politicians do not tell us how: what happens to workers who have their jobs outside the district - will they be unemployed? in the evening at 18.00 o'clock every city center is completely closed also cinema, restaurants, dance bars - inner city lockdown? I get new clothes and fresh food delivered every day, who pays for all that, me from my salary? do all products that you can buy also get a carbon points traffic light that shows how many social credit points you get or lose? Without knowing this, you are completely at the mercy of the people, are the social credit points recharged every month? often travel by plane, then all social credit points will be lost? new districts with local markets there will be the immonilien prices shoot up, what happens to the people who because of low wages can not afford an apartment in the smart city? can O have buy and own my house at the outskirt/ edge of the smart city? I can't find answers to all these questions.

More companies are starting to look at doing this as well. And then corporate companies will own them all and plan to rent top and bottom for upto 3000 a month. There will be no residential single detached homes for sale in Canada as they will be held by big multi billion dollar companies. More billion dollar companies and investors will soon follow as well. There will be no jobs for realtors and no where for people to afford to live. @@greenenergyfutures I disagree that density is the solution. I would make the arguement that 1. The embodied energy and carbon in skyscrapers is more than will ever be saved from the density, plus the energy required to keep living in them and 2. If we integrated more seamlessly with nature then it wouldn't matter how big a city became. There's also no talk of scaling back our standards of living. As if somehow we can simply buy our way to sustainability. I'm working on a plan for a radically sustainable suburb but unless I win the lottery it won't likely become reality because it won't line the pockets of billionaires. I can't even afford to make my own house "greener" because oh yeah, I can't afford to buy a house without paying a bank hundreds of thousands of dollars in interest over the life of a mortgage. I probably sound pretty salty but I actually have some hope. A lot more needs to change in our society in order to become sustainable but the new generation is ticked off too and I think we're almost ready for a massive shift.
