Hmmm...trying to work out Imperial vs Metric rigging. Is this to do with string width?
@VingloLeClerc
@VingloLeClerc 4 года назад
Why are you not making the rigging going through the holes in the crows nest? That looks like it would space out the rigging a little bit more to give it a more natural (ladder) look. Is it because of stress to the part. There would be no need to tie them and let them go over the part like you're doing now or insert them from the top, make them go under the crows nest and let them come out from to bottom to go back to the rigging on the deck.
@printablescenery
@printablescenery 4 года назад
You could, the holes are intended for rigging halyard lines but equally you could use them for the rigging.
@VingloLeClerc

@@printablescenery I looked at actual rigging for ships and realized there is another set of rigging starting from the crow's nest to the top of the mast. From those rigging images, I noticed that the the rigging from the deck end slightly below the crow's nest and there are holes in the crow's nest to access the latter. Damn your boats are nice and it's difficult for me to wait for the funds to get myself a 3D printer, I want to buy at least 2 or 3 of your boats. Keep up the good work.

@@VingloLeClerc Yes, they are usually used for displaying ensigns and other smaller flags. We appreciate the compliment, and highly recommend the Ender 3 when you do take the plunge. Its not too expensive and gets some phenomenal detail.

Probably not going to get a response to this for awhile, but what kind of fabric would be best for making the sails for something like this? One you could paint a crest onto as well if you wanted.

Any chance you guys would update your boats to include hull files that would be optimal for resin printing? Such as maybe hollowing out the bottom so you can’t see that it’s hollowed but at least them it won’t print using too much resin?
@printablescenery

That's a good idea. We are doing some upgrades next month to these so will have a look at that for sure.

@printablescenery 4 года назад
Hey Michael, they all use 6mm and 4mm dowels, just in different volumes depending on the size of the ship. You can find the amount you need in the ships description on the website, down near the bottom. I have included the black ship as an example, if you scroll right down you will find the amounts you need. www.printablescenery.com/product/the-black-ship/

Can this be done with string/twine too for a more authentic look?
@printablescenery
@printablescenery 4 года назад
String and twine can be used but they do not look realistic(they look like string and twine and not miniature rope) Most modellers will use either millinery elastic and/or wax cord to create authentic looking rigging. The advantage of millinery elastic is that it looks like miniature rope and keeps the tension.

based on the number and size of gunports compared to the model over all thats a gunboat, not a sloop...for example the USS Marion launched in 1839 originally had 16 guns 8 per side...heavy guns at that lol
@printablescenery
@printablescenery 5 лет назад
john p.jones ‘Sloop’ refers to the ships rig not the hull. A sloop is a rig with single mast and mainsail with single headsail. You can have a sloop rig on any type of boat. For example most modern cruiser/racers are sloops. The video refers to rigging a sloop. (It’s actually a gaff rigged sloop) but I don’t show the Gaff in this video.
