Just to point it out to people as well that I completely agree with keeping onto your chips until the second half of the season but you HAVE to use your first wildcard before the World Cup (think it’s GW16) and will also get unlimited transfers during the World Cup so no point in only using it a week or two before the World Cup. Most experienced players will look to use it from GW 5-8 if it suits their team then

I agree 100% - but you can wildcard one or two weeks before the world cup as a free hit equivalent if, for whatever reason, you've managed to make it 16 weeks without needing to wildcard.

Really good video, James. Having managed to top almost all of my work and friend's mini-leagues CONSISTENTLY for the last few years, I have to say I agree with most of these tips. The biggest tip from me (top 5k finishes in the last three seasons) to other aspiring FPL managers on how to win their FPL mini-leagues every single time though, would be to finish on more points than everyone else in the league.

One tactic I used last year was to see where the teams who were conceding the most goals were conceding them from. For example, Norwich city conceded a lot of goals from their left side last year which meant choosing a teams right winger often led to points e.g i brought in Townsend against Norwich last year who scored and Doucoure who played RCM against them also scored. Worth looking into this when making those short term moves to gain you a few extra points

On point 17 about having bench players that play, keep in mind the impact the 5 subs rule will have this year. For example if you have Reece James in your fantasy team and he doesn’t start a game for Chelsea, where in the past he would normally move to your bench and your first sub would come into your team, I think it’s a lot more likely that real life managers like Tuchel will give players 20 minutes at the end of a game rather than not playing them at all now that they have the option of 5 subs. Therefore you’ll have to accept more 1 pointers during the season and will have less times where you actually get a player coming off your bench in FPL. Therefore I agree with Jim, 3 of your 4 players minimum should be the cheapest available bench players (£4m keeper, 4.5m def/mid/forward)

Hadn't actually thought about the fact the 5 subs would impact FPL in that way, but that's such a good point. I had only considered it for players coming off earlier, forgot it also meant more players coming on!

My 3 tips, as a current mini league champion 1. Don't let injuries build up on your bench 2. Get in the players that are in the majority of your mini league opposition teams 3. Don't stress too much about getting picks wrong, no one can predict the future

Agree with the chip tip minus the Wildcard. We effectively have 3 Wildcards this year because of the WC, so using a Wildcard early is definitely a potential route to go down this year.

personally im not too sold on the 8m plan this season, unless you make a really early transfer the prices of each of them will rise or fall fairly quickly and you will no longer be able to afford the one you're after

One that I would point out is also look at possible transfers that you can get cheap right now. For example if cucurella goes to city.

There is no reason not to have all three bench players playing this season. We have multiple playing players from the cheapest price pool in each position at multiple clubs. If you have a non-playing bench your missing a simple trick. Plus you will catch the innevitible prise rises and increase the value of your team for your first wildcard which I consider crucial.

you have 2 Wildcards and unlimited transfers over World cup so actually i would say use wildcard chip early around GW 8, then free transfers around world cup, then second wild card late into GW 30. My opinion anyway

Use attack + defence Fixture Difficulty Ratings because the generic ones on the FPL website aren't tailor-made for the player's position.

I don't agree with the "have a bench that plays" - you should know prior to the deadline if one of your players will be injured or not. If one of your starting eleven is on the bench, with 5 subs its likely he'll come on at some point.

How to win your mini league? Don’t!! Just sit atop your league the entire season so everyone knows your a king. But then in the last game week graciously hand over the league to the peasant in second, the false hope ensures they’ll come back next year! The strategy has never failed me…

Actually hard disagree with 3) having multiple 8M midfielders.Yes they look decent, and would make for a good punt, but it's too hard to fit multiple in when you also want 2 premiums mid/fwd and at least 4 premiums in defence (which seems like the template this season). I think 1x 8M mid is a good choice, whether it be Diaz, Saka, Fidel or Mount, but fitting more than one in means sacrificing elsewhere

Bruno was actually top scorer season before last. Salah not a given to get 200+ points this season IMO

Keep in mind Salah has scored minimum 230 points every season so far at Liverpool. Without injury, a lot of people would be surprised to see a sub-200 total
