What do you do if your Citroen 2CV mirror snaps off? Turns out Retrospec Parts sell a repair kit! They also sell silicone trims to replace the inevitably cracked plastic surround for the glass itself. Visit restrospecpart... for these and much more. Not sponsored!
Also, huge thanks to Tim at ‪@CambrianClassicsLtd‬ for actually carrying out the repair and drilling out a stubborn screw.
HubNut merchandise, including 2CV Power Less is More, can be found at hubnut.org

Props to Tim for all his help with you and Mini Hubnut - and it's funny how sometimes these small jobs can be so satisfying. The list of jobs on the Yaris grows but one I am looking forward to is fitting a power outlet to it for one of those old-fashioned parking lights you placed over the driver's window and then trapped in place by winding the window up. But next, the rear screen wash pump, having already sorted the rear wiper.

I had to replace my nearside wing mirror on my 2020 Fiat Panda 2 weeks before I traded it in for my 2023 Panda. Whoever bought the 2020 one may be wondering what the rattle is in the passenger door, it is one of the 4 nuts that I managed to drop into the door, still the wing mirror still stayed on with only 3 🤣

Nice on Ian, It's great to see that Elle can now see behind her. Another 5 minute job completed. Over the many years of doing those '5 minute' vehicle jobs as a complete novice I've discovered that: a) 5 minute jobs take much longer than 5 minutes. b) Lot's of 5 minute jobs can add up to days or weeks or longer. c) 5 minute jobs can only complete if you have all the tools/parts including the bits that we break or somehow loose while trying to complete said job. d) We do better at the bigger jobs and sometimes forget the 5 minute ones that could have been completed easier while doing the larger job. Many thanks for sharing.

I've watched a few 2CV engine rebuilds but think that Tim and yourself would make a good team to rebuild your engine. It's an interesting engine that makes good content. For all its apparent simplicity It does need a delicate touch in some areas. If parts aren't perfect replace. Example. An oil pump that looks to be good has to be perfect or its not worth risking. Hopefully the crank is good and you don't need to many expensive parts. Cam is about £350 or a slightly sporty one to go with your 650 kit about £385.
@HubNut

Tîm hasn't really got the time to get involved with Elly's engine rebuild, but my friend Colin is on standby to dig in.
@delukxy
@delukxy 8 месяцев назад
Go for it. I hope Colin has a suitable workshop/garage. Needs a nice big, clean bench plus a wash tank. Yes you do have a tank but probably not big enough for the crankcases. Building one of these on the floor not ideal beyond swapping the barrels and heads as you have done. Do you know what the exact issues are with Elly's engine?

@@HubNut Registering should be OK, I'm building a 2CV pick up currently and I toyed with the idea of extending the wheelbase, which would require an IVA test. Nothing I could see that would prevent a 2CV from passing and I may still do it. Look at the MST Escorts, they get through somehow

Well done for fixing the mirror. However - perhaps if you have a bench vice, you could remove the mirror stem from the door. Then clamp it aforementioned vice and then indulge in some far more effective tapping, hammering and ultimate mending. The screw could thus become the immovable object which cannot resist. Everyone needs a vice. A good vice can make mechanical stuff so much easier and less frustrating. Just a thought.

@@caw25sha as opposed to "hit it with everything but an actual hammer" e.g. ratchet, screwdriver handle, side of pliers, so on. It's very easy to abuse all sorts of tools by using them as hammer substitutes generally as the "actual hammer" is some insurmountable hurdle away (like 2 foot from where you are stood by the car, in a drawer rather than immediately to hand!) I like Persuading things with the hammer too, I think it gives the (inanimate object) the illusion of choice! :-)
