Glad you liked the video and that I could help in some way. The HEC-RAS version I used when I made this video is rather outdated compared to the latest version, although the overall processes are still applicable and you should still be able to get a model up and running. Good Luck and Have Fun.

@@gerryroberts458 hmmmm, did you take the export via QGIS and choose the colors there? Otherwise it will be grayscale.

If you are referring to the legend not showing up then you can recreate a version of it if you dot down the exact RGB colors used in QGIS and simply replicate it in AUTOCAD. But yes, it won't show up automatically.

Thanks for the video! When I imported the .geo file to HEC RAS, I got the following error: "None of the XS's are Geo-referenced". I have set the projection in Civil 3D via adesetcrdsys command though. How can I fix it? The river is imported but the cross-sections not.

Hello @54:02 you said 150cu.m for flow as Q. One would obviously need to calculate the catchment areas and calculate the Q entering the river at this point, please advise as I am new to HEC RAS.
@altoroos
@altoroos 2 года назад
Correct, you will need to have outputs from a hydrology study to feed the flow information to your model. That flow can obviously also be produced by other sources for example discharge from a dam or pump station.

Alto thanks for the video it really helped. But I would like to see what to do when I have a steady flow using the 2d flow data.
@altoroos
@altoroos 6 лет назад
Hi Dawid, As far as I know it isn't possible to do a steady state flow analysis with a 2D model. It has to be an unsteady flow analysis and therefore to simulate a Steady State in your model you have to assign a flat hydro-graph at a specific flow as an input boundary condition for the entire duration of the analysis time. Then let the analysis run for a time until steady state is reached within your model. The results obtained can therefore be accepted as if it was a steady state analysis since you only look at the results at a specific time-step. I hope this answers your question.

Hi Alto. The steps worked perfectly, but I noticed that my WSE(Max) contours export as zero elevation contours. I have tried using the GRASS plug-in on QGIS to export the contours with no luck. Is there a way to export the WSE(Max) contours with elevations? Would like to use these contours to create a surface in C3D. Thanks in advance.
@altoroos
@altoroos 4 года назад
Hi Lafras, Did you manage to export the contours with elevations? If you did, please share a few bullet-points on how it could be done. Thanks
@lafraspietersen2415
@lafraspietersen2415 4 года назад
Alto Roos Nope. Not while using QGIS. I however redone my flood analysis using the River and Flood analysis Module in C3D. This module exports the contours with elevations. But contours exported from HEC seems a lot more accurate. So still working on it.

good one,but what informs you of the mannings value to be used
@altoroos
@altoroos 5 лет назад
Hi. I used photos taken on site to get a feel for the vegetation, terrain and roughness and correlated that to an applicable freesurface flow reference providing typical manning values for similar areas.

@@altoroos when taking the cross sections,what method is to be used in taking the section physically,manual or levelling instrument? also,is each station independent on the other. i mean cross sections taken at river station1 for instance ,is it independent on cross sections taken on river station 2.
@altoroos
@altoroos 5 лет назад
@@peteradegbola4508, sections you take should definitely be using the same reference. Generally, The more accurate your survey the better. The actual method used to capture sections does not matter, as long as they are correctly orientated relatrive to each other and are within your accepted accuracy tolerances. I would suggest using an experienced surveyor applying the latest survey techniques that would be appropriate to the area you want to assess. This would ensure that the survey you use for Your HEC-RAS model will be representative of the area being investigated.

bnjour monsieur est ce je peut faire la modélisation d'ecoulement dans un dérivation provisoire dun barrage (pertuit)
@altoroos
@altoroos 5 лет назад

@@altoroos I state that I already have a floor plan in .dxf format. I imported it to Civil3D. After that, I imported the DTM as a surface and created alignment and sections based on the floor plan. Finally on I exported to HEC RAS by inserting surface, alignment and sections.
@altoroos
@altoroos 3 года назад
@@rossanasaracino8548 Seems like you are setting up a 1D HEC-RAS model in civil 3D and then try to export the data generated in Civil3D as a HEC-RAS model which you will then take further from within HEC-RAS. Unfortunately my video was not aimed to facilitate that workflow. I'd suggest looking at the following video which sounds more like what you are after. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oacpBLqpDIk.html

Hi Alto , How can Download the sample drawing ?
@altoroos
@altoroos 5 лет назад
Hi Mike, unfortunately I don't have access to those files anymore. You should be able to create your own sample contours and play around with the flows till you have a model that looks sensible.
@altoroos
@altoroos 5 лет назад
An easy way is to get a contour image from Google, import it into Autocad, Scale the image appropriately, trace the contours and give them elevations and then you are half way there. It doesn't have to be detailed or accurate to get the work flow sorted out. Hope this helps.

Hi Ahmed, Unfortunately I don't have access to those files anymore, but it should be easy enough for you to create your own sample files to test some of the concepts in the video. Then apply it to your own project. For future videos I will include links to sample files as it is being requested by a significant number of people.
