This same method is used in Classic "Play Station-1" Game Characters. Especially in Smack Down Games. I've played those PS-1 Games in 2003 & 2004 Days.

It’s pretty cool, but even with high resolution photos the outcome is pretty rough. I believe the concept and technology behind this is amazing, and would love to see it be implemented with AI to better help with the results.
