By any chance is it possible to use the d-orbital spin in a way that cancels out the component normal to the surface, the one along the surface goes around the 'conduction at the boundary' in a way similar to two neutron stars(or some massive objects with similar mass) going around each other. The idea is that the p band hall effect gives rise to the boundary conduction phenomenon as described in the video, but the d band conduction is such that the electrons move out of the surface and back in-in the motion which is correlated (coupled indeed) to the edge conduction phenomenon. This kind of phenomenon could be designed to induce conduction between separate pieces of such two dimensional crystals, not just one continuous crystal. Does it make any sense to ask that question?
