I'm Jamaican, but my mother used to sing this song to me when I was a little girl, my roots are in Africa and I will always love my African ancestry. 🇯🇲
I guess He was the first Nigerian to have an international hit. Correct me if I'm wrong, coz he is the first Nigerian musician I knew then Psquare came in after that, the likes of Dbanj, Davido, Yemi Alade, Burna Boy etc.
I heard this song back in Samoa, moved to the states and introduced it to my friend from Nigeria, he was blown away and it immediately became his favorite song. Oh the beauty and wonders of music! Such a godly way to connect with people!
Omg I just saw some other artist copy this song but changed it to Island queen... Same lyrics & everything except they sing island queen... Nothing ever beats the original song right here... 2021 still loving this song...😘♥️✌🏾

I’m Jamaican and I’ve known this song since I was little but I neve knew who sang it. Young, Famous and African just came out on Netflix and this artist is on the show. So now I’m back here after all these years of hearing my Jamaican family sing this song just figuring out it’s from African Origin

My late younger brother who used to treat me like his younger sister dedicated this song to me i truly miss you John 😭😭😭 it's now 19yrs ever since you died.
I am a white, American woman…up in years… but this was sent to me by my young Nigerian best friend… it is my absolute favorite song and 2Face sings it beautifully!
If ever I can meet this guy in person I would give him a huge hug and say thank you so much for teaching young black girls to love themselves and that their dark beautiful brown skin was valid and breath taking in a time when many black girls and African girls were told that they weren't beautiful, I remember singing this song as a six year old and feeling so good about being African
Latina here, the first time I heard this song, immediately fell in love with it and needed it. It's a positive and elevated song that I want to hear more of than the basura sung today by clowns who are getting rich off of negative fequency.
I've had men treat me poorly because I'm black. The first boy I was ever I'm love with told me he'd never date or marry a black girl and took my best friend to prom. She was a white girl I wanted so badly to look like. The next year I was assaulted and told only black girls do dirty things. It was a traumatizing couple of years and music like this heals me.
As a black African man, I’ve been thru similar when I was younger younger. I thought If I dated a white woman that the hate would lessen. Also doesn’t help that I grew up around mostly non blacks, predominantly white. Towards black people I wasn’t black enough for them when I was looking for acceptance from the black community. They saw my “white-ish” behaviour and deemed me traitor. I felt exiled from both communities. And towards Africans, I wasn’t African enough. Sometimes the grass isn’t greener but you have to grow your own you feel comfortable in. It allowed me to understand the struggle biracial people go thru. The world needs a lot of work but never take it personally and don’t base your new character on pass trauma or hate, always remember the good things about yourself then and now.
This song takes me back to 2006 prom night during high School,I was someone's African queen that time and now happily married with two kids,it's my favorite.
Yeah, yeah, you are my african queen, oooh lord, oooh lord Just like the sun, lights up the earth, you light up my life The only one, I've ever seen with a smile so bright And just yesterday, you came around my way And changed my whole scenery with your astonishing beauty Ah, you coulda make a brother sing, You ordinary thing, a supernatural being I know you are just brighter than the moon Brighter than the star, I love you just the way you are And you are my African Queen, the girl of my dreams. You take me where I've never been You make my heart go ting-a-ling-a-ling, oh ahh You are my African Queen, the girl of my dreams And you remind me of a thing And that is the African beauty yahhh Yahh oooo you are my african queen, oh lord, oo lord hmm Out of a million you stand as one The outstanding one I look into your eyes, girl what I see is paradise Yeah you captivated my soul, now everyday I want you more o o oo How can I deny this feeling I'm feeling inside Ey oh no one can never take your place Can never take your space, Thats a fact I cannot erase And you, you are the one that makes me smile Make me float like a boat upon the nile. Oooo ooooo yaahhh yahhh oooo You are my african queen and I know, oh yes I know hhn You are my african queen and I know, see I know See I know what I am feeling in my heart and in my soul Oh I know that it is love And I know that this love was surely sent from up above Cause you're the only one I think of You are my african queen And I know that this means that you're the only one that I will serve I'll give you my heart, my love, my body and my money Every other thing you think of Who could think of anything better than you Who could think of ever hurting you Sacrifice my all, I'll give it all to you Cause you are my african queen For real And you are my African Queen, the girl of my dreams. You take me where I've never been You make my heart go ting-a-ling-a-ling, oh ahh You are my African Queen, the girl of my dreams And you remind me of a thing And that is the African beauty yahhh So black, so beautiful I love you, I love you, I love you, Munyemo, I love you, I love you, I love you, Munyemo, I love you, I love you, Ooohhh yeah, my African Queen, I love you, I love you
