I admit I love going thru the sm towns the best. I lived in CO . We were from KS and my dad taught for a yr in CO before moving to CA. I have fond memories of the state.

This was a nice drive. La Veta seems like an easy pass to drive compared to Vail pass. Great video.

Just drove this today!! This is my usual route from Denver where I live, to my parents house near Taos

It's great to see you in Colorado south of I-70 again, Kyle. This is rapidly becoming my favourite part of the Lower 48! Thank you for showing us yet another pass through the Rockies.

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! There will be plenty of content from Colorado coming that doesn’t feature I-70.

For a highway in the middle of nowhere, US 160 gets more traffic than I expected. The drive though the mountain pass is one of nicest sceneries I seen of such a pass. I know you like to drive in Colorado & you take to give much of the state whenever you visit it. But never ceases to amaze me how diverse the geography the state really is.

Thank you as always! I love the geography of Colorado as well. I keep finding myself back in this state to explore much of what it has to offer. I love this place!

Kyle, Nice one with some good scenery and a pleasant drive off the interstate (always good every once in a while). Noticed a LOT of dead trees standing before getting to the summit, though. This Creek Fire evacuee says that's not good. San Luis Valley... Lot of strange stuff goes on there. Folks have seen UFOs, Bigfoot, the Skinwalker, and other strange things. Have one eye on the road and another on the lookout..

Great video - I've driven that route many times, and it never gets old. You'll have to drive Colorado 149 some time, from South Fork through Creede to Lake City - a great drive through the San Juans.

Route 160 is really a nice drive in Colorado. Have driven 160 from Walsenburg to Cortez going through Alamosa, Monte Vista, Del Norte, South Fork (remember National Lampoon _Vacation_ ?), Wolf Creek Pass (awesome drive), Pagosa Springs, and Durango. Varied scenery which makes it enjoyable. The way to go to get to Mesa Verde National Park.

That’s a national park that’s on my bucket list. I just need to make the time to get out there one day. I’ve the only stretch of US-160 I have yet to be on in Colorado is from Del Norte to US-285.

@@InterstateKyle the entrance to where the cliff dwellings are quite a drive from route 160. Plan to spend a couple days there and be prepared to climb up ladders to some of the ruins. I’ve been there twice. Fascinating place.

Another fantastic drive over the Veta pass. I simply love it. Maybe one day you can drive over the old Veta pass as well and show it to us? You once did that with another pass (Old Monarch Pass) as well and that one was marvelous! Thank you for showing us this ride, Kyle! Greets from the very flat Netherlands.

I drove this pass (but from west to east) in Nofember 2020. Beautiful drive, although I had more snow on the mountains around me at the time. I had also just gone to Great Sand Dunes Park and stayed the night in Alamosa. It's a beautiful area all around. I hope you enjoyed the park.

I've always wanted to climb Mt. Mestas, but I'm reasonably certain that there isn't a maintained trail above timberline (or so I've been told), and I'm gettin' way to old to scramble! I'll just enjoy the view from this video, and possibly an upcoming So. Co. road trip this summer (if gas prices aren't as insane as they've been lately.

"Haujatolla" (the Spanish phonetic spelling pronounced "Wy-uh-toy-yuh" does not mean "double mountain," it meant "breasts of the world" to Native Americans. Much of the area has Spanish place names. Huerfano County is on the east side of La Veta Pass--"huerfano" (pronounced "Where-fah-no") means "orphan" in Spanish, the county named for an isolated butte north of Walsenburg that is "orphaned" on the surrounding plains. Costilla County on the west side of La Veta Pass (pronounced "Co-stee-ya" means "rib" in Spanish. The county was named Costilla, presumably because ridges separating creek drainages on the west side of the Sangre de Cristo ("Blood of Christ") Mountains resembled ribs. I've driven this road hundreds of times over the years--unfortunately, these days it can be traffic-choked in the summer. A friend of mine was severely injured in a head-on collision (not his fault) on this road about 10 years ago. You neglected to mention that the Spring Fire in summer 2018 burned over 108,000 acres of forest in and around La Veta Pass. Some of the burned areas are clearly visible in the video.

Beautiful drive Kyle. Ever noticed in your travels that people speed up so you can't pass them on a passing lane, then they slow down so you can't pass them when it goes back to 2 lane? And if you come up on someone in a 2 lane going way under the speed limit, that they will invariably turn off in about 5 miles or the next town, which ever comes first? 🤔 Safe travels my friend.

This has to be older footage... maybe from early summer? The area hasn't been that green for months! I live just up the road in Pueblo. Everything in this part of southern Colorado is dreary and brown from a cold, but moisture less winter.
