2m (144 MHz) CW anyone?

Just a quick vid to confirm there is someone in the North Wales beaming into England looking for CW QSO's on 2M! I admit, it may seem a little pointless, but if you watch this and are also interested in CW on VHF then you can comment and maybe we can sort a sched. I am in need of practice, but am also very happy to help any CW beginers, talk-back possible on VHF/UHF FM?

Hi Russ, good to see that there are a few 2m CW operators who haven't got up. Unfortunatly i can't reach your location from Germany with my equipment. But just want to let you know, that you are not the only one who searches for 2m contacts. Keep going and nice vid.

HI, thanks for the comment. I am going to put my 6 ele yagi up again over the holiday if I can. I also have a little 30w linear in the shack to will be trying again soon. There was a big lift on a couple of weeks ago but I was out working unfortunately. We need more high pressure!!

Hi Russ I realise your post has been up for some years but many of us are not going with the crowd down the digital route and are trying out 2m and 70cm CW Some of local amateurs in the East of the country are joining in on a CW party on Monday 29th Feb 2016 on 144.00 to 144.092 730pm until 2100hrs. Keep it up it is great fun! 2E0MIY

Hi Laurent, Thanks for the information. Now I know of the activity night in France I will keep on calling on Tuesdays. There is an activity night here on Tuesdays also, but it changes band each week so only 2m every month or so. I need to put up my beam main again when its safe to get on the roof, but at the moment only have a 3 ele in the loft. Not ideal but as you know CW and a little lift can work wonders! Hope to chat with you on the key.

This is how I find 2m c.w. so I rarely even bother trying now. I try about three calls and give up. It has always been like this. When I had a G8 call in the 70's and with a 5 element beam I used to listen and never heard any c.w. in 2 years. I got an FT817 and in 3 years I have worked one c.w. station. Okay I don't have a beam but I can't get very interested in 2m. I work very locally on f.m. and that's it. I've never had any contact on 70cm. There's not much ssb either. It's a bit sad there has to be a contest activity night before people come on, I suppose it gets people on at the same time and even then I've only heard ssb. G4GHB.

I recommend a straight key. Get a rhythm. then and only then you move on to the paddles as they can be a handicap.

I’ve tried as well in Illinois. Only once did I hear CW on 2M. That was about 2-1/2 years ago while listening on my SDR (pre-licensed days...) 73!

I recently heard CW again on 2M. This time it was a satellite, with a CW beacon.
