Check out his brothers test - • 2nd Degree Black Belt ... . World Champion Medal Winner - This is his Second Degree BLACK BELT test (Nidan Test). It is this long because it tests how well a student trained. Everyone looks good when they are fresh, but once they are exhausted, and running on pure will-power, then muscle memory takes over - a great way to tell who really trained. . Of this goup,10 people tested for their First Degree and 2 people tested for 2nd degree. This video shows what it takes to be a Second Degree Black Belt.. Boden, age13, doing his Nidan Black Belt Test. This Test was 20 hours long from Canada's Best Karate. This test was developed by the Purple Dragons in Trinidad.

I started TKD when I was 4 years old. It took almost 9 years to get my black belt. This was before there was a McDojo everywhere. To take my black belt test we had to drive 50 miles to one specific school where people all over the state took their test. I earned it. Couple of years later I left because it was only taking kids 3-4 years to get a black belt, and they didn't have to do much of anything other than have their parents write a check.

@misterguy2329 8 лет назад
+James Warner 4 years from white to black is normal and reasonable. You can complain about the quality of black belts they were producing, that's fine, nobody's saying belt factories don't exist, but 4 years is pretty standard for 1st black.

I feel like you shouldn't award belts for how old you are it should be for how skilled you are. Because Different belt ranks are simply a teaching tool. besides that their only other use is keeping your pants up.
@cjreay1106
@cjreay1106 8 лет назад
+UDK Dehumanized I agree with what you have said to a certain extent but u believe no one should be a black belt with out at least 4 years training 3 days a week minimum and being at least 14 years old to have force and power behind each technique
@Theivv
@Theivv 8 лет назад
+reshi pn I would say that a black belt should be more than just being able to control skill, but you should have finished puberty, and have a fair amount of mental development that typically only comes with time. This is typical because a small man pass puberty will be stronger than a young boy who is still going through puberty.
@designedbygod5754
@designedbygod5754 7 лет назад
A year later..... I believe a black belt is just the beginning. You've earned the right to master the true depths of the art as well as teach those who are learning the basics. Basically all youve done is practiced the basics well. Now, bring all aspects of the game together and master your art everyday sharpen your iron and fine tune the technique to your body and mind. Age and strength don't make you a black belt. But the constant fine tuning that has no limit or standard to your progression. A person can master a kick in a day if his mind and soul are up to it. But the art of fighting is a lifetime dance that will never be mastered by man.

This is very real karate and I respect that but judging from the sparring I feel they aren't 2nd degree level. I don't think a 13 year old is really developed enough to be a second degree level. Still lots of respect this is the kind of training that will make effective karate fighters and 20 hours is brutal though I would suggest not wearing those helmets, I know it still hurts but getting conditioned to the pure hits is very good for a real fight.
@itsus7393
@itsus7393 8 лет назад
well sparring you want to wear a helmet, you dont condition yourself while testing, you condition yourself in parctice, trust me, if you didnt wear gear, you would be severly hurt, because these are other martial artist who can seriously hurt you if a mistake is made, hence the helmet and slight armour, if you were take a blow to the head from like a second degree black belt, you would have some issues, and in like all street fights and actually fights, it probably wont be against martial artist due to their self restrant, so yeah you need helmets in sparring
@Ibrahim-sk5xc
@Ibrahim-sk5xc 7 лет назад
Nah, dude, the only reason the sparring wasn't good was because it was his 6th hour.
@Beas7ie
@Beas7ie 7 лет назад
I think they should lose points for wearing those boxing gloves while hitting pads. The whole purpose is hitting and kicking pads and bags is for conditioning. When you wear heavy gloves and feetpads, then it just defeats that purpose.
@multimeter2859
@multimeter2859 6 лет назад
Beas7ie I disagree. While conditioning is one aspect, it's also about accuracy. Wearing gloves is completely okay as well. When my instructor tells us to glove up for pads, I rock my 2 lb boxing gloves. The extra weight is meant for hand speed.

I haven't seen a school that required much sweat , any real skill and dedication to their style since the 80's. Training has soften up like most everyone from the 90's on. Started martial arts in the 70's and am still plugging along. Spending more than a year now to get a black belt is rare, ok maybe two or three. a 13 year old at 2nd dan is the only factor that could be raised, but in this world where I have seen 5 and 6 year old black belts can't really make much of a deal about that. Congrats to any who put that much into their art.

Hello Sir its not that bad at 13 year old most people are fully conscious and understand plus if you start at a young age like i did at 7 by 14 you should be a black belt
@Diguitarist
@Diguitarist 9 лет назад
Is not that you aren't conscious, at 13. There's a level of responsibility that comes with the rank that many if not most 13 year olds can't handle. I'm not saying you can't, just that in my experience that has been the case and I think many in the martial arts industry agree which is why most schools don't offer black belts to kids under a certain age. My old school it was 16, some that I've visited its 15 or 18. The place I train now does allow youth to test for black belt but there is a youth curriculum and belt and they have to retest at 16 to the adult standard. All that said there are exceptions to the rules. My little cousin was about 13 when she tested for her black belt, passed and she totally deserved it. She also was mature enough to handle that weight of responsibility, so if you are like her, then good for you, and keep doing what you do. The world needs more mature 13 year olds. I work in an industry where we hire a lot of young people right after they graduate from college, and most of them are not as mature as my little cousin was when she was 13. When you get to that age you'll be an example and will go far. Keep training.

Hello yes, i Agree with you, and based on my experience when i first started doing Karate under Japanesse teacing Joshimon Shorin Ryu and belts took a year for you to be able to test, for example from white to the next belt a year passed by the time i was 8 i had my yellow belt, and i had to work so hard and run so many kilometers and do so many push ups plus many zuki combinations ETC that i was so proud. and not like here in usa my little cousin in a year is already a Blue belt.. but that vary from school to school.. if you can please subscribe to my channel i will value any comments on my last videos and your insight thank you

can you please expound the 20 hours. do they have any break at all...for instance coffee or meal breaks. is this 20 hours of continuously test or have rest in between. what I am asking is this. suppose there are 20 doing the test...one or two would be doing the test, Kats for example, while others rest while waiting for their turn. So in effect it is not continuous 20 hours testing. if so how much time is taken actuaĺy performing during this test period? can someone please clarify?

Wow. well done. Nice to see some one so young and so committed. This 'style' is not my thing but like the sentiments in the main story of this 2nd degree test. Looks like a fantastic club, respect to the instructor in keeping this a tough/dedicated regime, most clubs today are so money orientated, nothing wrong with that but usually standards drop for the sake of a few more £££££s. Again well done to that young man.

Every time I watch this video I cry because of the good memories I've had when I received my 2nd degree and 3rd degree... it was literally like this test I get so emotional over it

Awesome how they train Jiu-Jitsu and take downs. My dojo trains a little judo to be more well rounded, but i wish we did more full contact sparring

I'm impressed with your exam and glad with your conquest. This karate school have a complete training. I desired to train in there, but I'm from Brazil (A little bit far lol). What karate style do you practice? I noticed that you did katas of shotokan style. Where I train we don't practice kobudo (weapon) in shotokan style just Shorin Ryo style have kobudo training. Congratulations Deanpothorin!!!

Thx for editing down from 20 hours. It shows the power and influence of Brazilian Jiu JItsu that a Karate test now has a JJ section - (but in BJJ you cannot earn your black belt until you are 18.)

yeah the judo and bjj is evident but you need to be a well trained bjj or judo guy to be fairly effective, thats why they have the minimum age at 18

Good video. Everyone seems to do Bassai Sho differently in the first move. In our school, our hands are still touching.
