2nd gen dodge surging issue "the permanent" fix!

I drive a 2001 dodge 2500 cummins, when id drive the truck it would have a surging feel while going up hills, accelerating, and my transmission would drop out of gear at highway speeds with no throttle response. The issue has to do with the torque converter, not know when to lock and unlock. Its due to a signal interference by the alternator. Ive tried all the methods on youtube, and the forums. They didnt work. This fixed the issue completely for me

Just bought a 2001 Dodge 2500 with a rebuilt transmission last week and the previous owner sold it cheap because he said it already started slipping again. Well everything you stated is what it was doing and it fixed it! Thank you so much for a detailed walkthrough

Some good information on this is the mopar man website and the guy said the truck worked fine from factory for however long so why should it need changing now. He reckons the real cause is the diodes in the alternator failing his advice was unplug the alternator and test drive it if the issue goes away then the diodes are faulty and doing the fix in the video is just masking the problem because the noise generated by bad diodes can damage other electronics on the truck

I'm about to perform this to my 99 cummins , also did foil first then installed bd diesel ac noise canceling. Worked for a while but as of today started surging real bad lock and unlock torque converter like crazy. So 🙏🏼🤞🏼 that by doing this will fix my problem. And thank you for your video was great info and showing the process. Will give an update soon as I'm done see if it worked for me as well .

🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🤝🏼 Ok Upon completion right of that bat. I did almost everything exactly the same tomorrow GOD WILLING ill make a video and upload. I did disconnect the battery's witch will rest pcm and ecm. So did it work ? Yes it did I'm so happy . My truck sounds runs and shifts like a whole Different truck shifts way Better and of course no more surging lockup torque converter. And for any one reading this i just had my transsmisson rebuilt. I tried before the rebuild to fix issues by least expensive route first cleaned all grounds and battery and ran extra ground to pcm and foiled the wire. That did not work , then order the bd diesel noise canceling wire kit installed and did go away and seemed to work great! But like many others have stated it's just a bandaid. For the real under Lining issue is to check your alternator make sure all is good there , and finally bad design from dodge . To pull that wire away from alternator and splice and reroute. Took me about an hour of time and that's with going to store. cost me about 20 dollares for material. And all is great. Hope this information helps some one else as it did me. If anything changes I will update

Tell me it’s still working please.. I’m getting ready to by pass the speed sensor with a Brady box or similar and really don’t want more expense..just found coolant lines were small split from rubbing and replaced them and solenoid and service only to have it start lock unlock again or at least it was now noticeable again since all the pressure issues were fixed and it shifts through gears at the right speed/rpms. Friggin annoying! Are you saying to move the plugged wire end to the other battery and connect to ground there? 1994 Cummins 4X4.

Thank you for taking the time to film it and explaining in detail to us on this issues, my truck just started doing this 2002 Dodge Ram 3500 5.9L Diesel. Before I had late shift at high rpm then I replaced governor solenoid pressure block and governor pressure sensor switch with a upgraded ATS parts from Thoroughbred Diesel performance. Replaced transmission filter torque the front and rear bands to spec and it was running very nice firm shifts. and now it’s doing this intermittent shift down up at a steady speed 45-50 mph. my wire is stock still so I will move it like you did and see what happens. Thanks Again -Sig

2001 dodge 5.9 HO NV5600. I had surging and dead pedal symptoms really bad and after lots of money and headache I finally found it was this ground wire that wasn’t fully plugged in on the passenger side. I don’t know what that ground feeds but it is very important. Hell all the grounds are important for that matter.

Keeping ground away from positive wires is key so running it over core support with pos cables not so good. Ground wires should be as short as possible, there are good ground points on each side of the engine ie timing cover or block

Hooking the ground to the battery next to the TPS sounds like a much easier suggestion. Why don’t any of the other videos mention this? I’m planning to try this in the spring when I get my truck out of storage. My truck has had this problem for twenty years. I’ve installed the noise isolator from Geno’s Garage and it worked for three years then the problem came back so I thought it burned out? I bought the next one from BD diesel and it didn’t fix it so now I’m searching for other things to try. It’s been the biggest frustration with the truck. 94’ 2500 Two wheel Drive.

I got the same truck when I first start it. The engine and lights surges for a few minutes then quits. Butt my transmission acts out sometimes when I come to a stop it goes outta gear then pops back in. I've re built my transmission with new parts I've cleaned all terminals. Put new batteries in. New terminals. Still does it

Why couldn't you just disconnect it from the alternator get it away from the alternator and wrap it up in the loom . Then run the aluminum foil wrapped wire directly to the alternator instead of making a big loop All the way across to the other side and back?
