This is tow FireFly kits combined to make a vertical take off version. The kits are from fancyfoam.com and the original design of the FireFly is by leadfeather on RCGroups.com.
This flies in elevon mode. Each section has a control surface. The top and bottom rudders are on separate channels and a mix makes them operate together for rudder functions. There are two aileron mixes that make the top and bottom rudders also work as ailerons. The motor is a Turnigy Aerodrive with 315W of power. The best battery used is 1600mAh, 3S lipos. The prop is an APC 10x3.8SF. The motor is pulling about 30A.We also tried a 3-axis stabiliizer but the results so far are not good although it worked pretty well on one of the flights.
These flights were in winds up to 12 mph. This is not the best condition with this much surface area. That said, it did pretty well.
i put the flight highlights at the beginning and some ground video at the end starting at 8:30.
